Conor Chaplin scored a stoppage-time winner as Portsmouth stunned Middlesbrough to boost their Championship survival hopes and deal a huge blow to the Teessiders' automatic promotion bid.

On-loan Ipswich forward Chaplin struck in the seventh minute of time added on from Adrian Segecic's corner to score from Portsmouth's only shot on target at the Riverside Stadium.

Middlesbrough have slipped to fourth place in the table and are three points behind second-placed Ipswich, having played two games more.

The defeat further damages Middlesbrough's hopes of going up automatically - Kim Hellberg's side have now managed just three points from their past six games, their worst run of the season.

Roy Hodgson's winning start to his second Bristol City spell ended with a frustrating nil all draw at Queens Park Rangers.

The visitors dominated early on and created enough chances to win, but QPR goalkeeper Joe Walsh kept them at bay.

Meanwhile, the hosts extended their unbeaten run to five games.

But both sides will be frustrated as their already slim hopes of making the Championship play-offs look over with the gap to the top six now eight points.

  • Sunderland took the lead just after the hour when Nordi Mukiele's shot beat keeper Antonin Kinsky via Micky van de Ven's heavy deflection.
  • Spurs then lost captain Cristian Romero with concussion after he was nudged into keeper Antonin Kinsky by Sunderland striker Brian Brobbey
