Solid Wests Tigers

The only thing keeping my sane as a tigers supporter has been our recruitment so far for 2018\. We finally have money to spend and have spent very wisely so far. Our forward pack is already an upgrade on this year and we arent even finished yet. Reynolds is an upgrade on the sook. If we can get a half decent fullback and a some speedy backs then it will almost be a completly new team. A full pre season under cleary and we will see a completely new team with new structures and most importantly a new culture at our club. Short term pain for long term gain.

Teams like the dogs have been up around and in the 8 for nearly three decades by being Solid. I love the idea of trying to build a really solid team and a really solid culture. Doubt we will have instant success, but I expect by the end of 2018 we will start to see what a really solid team can do.

Suddenly becoming a "spectacular" team doesn't sit well with me anyway. You can buy spectacular players but you can't buy a "spectacular" team, you earn it. Becoming spectacular takes hard work and years of building towards.

Being "solid" is good for us, hopefully we're in the mix next year and continue working towards regular final appearances and a premiership.

Being saying it for years..we keep talking about players in terms of their individual talents, but as Cleary said its all about the team as a unit. Okay you need talent and skill and the odd bit of individual brilliance will win you a game or two, but 17 players playing as a unit will win you more games

The Bellamy ploy of always signing fast wingers is a good one . We could take a punt on a couple and in that position it would not cost a lot. If one comes off, we're on front

On NRL 360 tonight P.Kent spoke very positively about the signings Matulino and (especially) Packer. It was surprisingly good to hear and he even stuck a jibe into Woods.

Good times ahead

Didn't he say something along the lines of we now have tough forwards while looking right at Woods?

Certainly did…Woods took it well I thought

Spectactular is up and down. Solid is competitive, consistent and honest. I would much rather follow a solid team instead of the unremarkable, inconsistent and juvenile minded teams of Wests Tigers over the past few years.

Gus Gould in his column today says that we may announce 2 more decent signings this week. Even he thinks that Cleary is putting together better squad.

So the 2 prospective signings?
Lolohea?
???
