Wonder if Freddie is walking around with his usual smirk tonight. Loser.

Must suck being a New South Welsh-man when we win..?

It hurts

So Walker gets dragged after 52mins for poor defence on his edge and Wighton comes on and gets a kick charged down and throws a game deciding intercept pass.

Wighton on the bench was a big head scratcher for me, the selectors got it wrong.
NSW don't have a half anywhere near as good as Munster and don't have a fullback as good as Ponga, Teddy is fantastic but Ponga is an absolute freak!!

I also think NSW failed to get the ball into L Mitchells hands enough.

Qlds ambush defence in that second half was brutal, NSW couldn't go with them.

One thing the selectors should learn is that some players, while great club players, aren’t capable of stepping up to the next level. DCE was the perfect example. For years, he was a non factor playing Origin, despite being one of the best halfbacks in the game. I think he’s turned the corner now though and is a different player at that level.

After last night, it’s blatantly obvious Walker and Wighton aren’t up to it at that level. I think Walker is the most overrated player in the game personally. And Wighton as an Origin player was laughable from the get go.

Ponga’s tackle on Micthell at the end should not be forgotten. He just threw his entire body at him, and while he didn’t stop him, he slowed him down and enabled the defenders around him to get him down. 9 times out of 10, Mitchell will Samoan sidestep any fullback and score in the corner. That was a big effort.

Being a New South Welshman AND a Wests Tigers supporter doubly hurts - losers all round! At least the Qld Tigers supporters get a reprieve from losing for a brief period in the season each year.

I know Payne Hass had huge wraps on him before the game but how good was David Fafita when he came on, I thought he made a huge difference to QLD.

Jo Ofengauhae was real good as well

First things NSW need are another big bopper on the bench and switch Wighton for Matterson

Yep definitely. I’d be bringing in McLean for Crichton, Keary for Walker & Matterson for Wighton.

Can't see Keary being fit.
Tommy Turbo should waltz back into the team though.
Cleary did his job, it was Walker who was supposed to be the one providing the creativity... unfortunately he lived up to his name and went walkabout.

Qld always had a better bench imo. The final score flattered us, although there have been numerous times over the Origin history where NSW has been the far better side only for QLD to hang in there and grab it at the death. Mitchell was obviously distracted but there is no way he gets discarded for Origin 2. Whighton hopefully won't be so lucky along with Crighton. Thought despite how quiet he was Cleary looked much better in the last ten when he finally decided to start to take the line on, but geez, he really went missing when they needed him in that tough second half period. I mean to have Cordner doing a clearing kick on the last in Origin is diabolical. Will Cleary survive to Origin 2? Injuries may still play their part.

In the end we made too many errors in that second half. NSW withstood an enormous amount of pressure, got a chance to turn the screws on Qld and came up with errors (or intercepts) to put themselves straight back under the pump again.

The refs were pretty good last night which is refreshing to say after any game of Rugby League these days.
I guess a positive for NSW is if we can get a victory in Perth, the decider is at home.

Will it really make a difference?
Pretty much same for same aren't they.

@cktiger Cleary failed. His short kicking game was appalling and his inept kicking in the first half allowed QLD back into it. To me he lacks the spark that is necessary at this level, that elusiveness and pace the good players have which sets them apart. Some of the interchanges really need to be examined as to the decision to have 1 prop on the bench.

Reynolds ruled out indefinitely with back injury

Rabbitohs halfback Adam Reynolds has been sidelined indefinitely with a back fracture suffered in last week's loss to Parramatta.

South Sydney coach Wayne Bennett confirmed Reynolds would miss Friday night's clash with Newcastle and would only return when he is pain-free.

"He won't be playing - he's got a small fracture in his back from last weekend's game," Bennett said.

"It's serious enough that he can't play but it's not something that will be two or three months, it's just when his pain-free he'll be able to play again because he's not pain free at the moment."

Bennett said the halfback incurred the injury early in the loss to the Eels after copping a knee in the back.

"He got up very slow and very sluggish but he managed to get through the game. No-one's sure how he did that," Bennett added.

"He was obviously in a lot of pain and x-rays showed later on, scans showed he's got a small fracture in the lower back.

"He'll be out as long as he's in pain so we don't know if it will be a month, three weeks, six weeks, five weeks. But there's no surgery required. When he can run and handle the pain he'll be right to play."

Bennett said he would rest NSW five-eighth Cody Walker from Friday's match, with fellow State of Origin stars Dane Gagai, Damien Cook and Cameron Murray likely to back up from the series opener.

"Cody Walker won't play but the others will," Bennett said.

"I just don't think it's in his best interests to back up two days later when he hasn't played before at this level. He's got a couple of niggles so it's about making sure he's fit to play next week."
