Souths

Geez they're going to be hard to beat this year. They are bloody monsters! How big is George Burgess??? Making the big Rooster's pack look like newly hatched chickens tonight lol. I hate to think what they will do to our guys when we play them - it won't be pretty, I imagine.

Pretty hard to come back when you've got those big guys coming at you non stop - I think Souths got 9 of the first 10 penalties (not all of them necessarily deserved IMO).
Talk was of how the Roosters have no discipline yet when we played them 2 weeks ago we gave away the first 5 penalties and then struggled….. funny that.

Their cause wasnt hurt when the referees penalised the hell out of the Rorters. With the amount of ball they had - and a seemingly permanently missing Rorters right side winger - they were made to look good tonight.

If they manage to keep all of those big units fit and healthy through to the end of September the fitness/medical staff have done an outstanding job.

And I agree with Ink.

Imagine when they put the identical if not slightly bigger Tom Burgess on with George and Sam!!

Like Beau said on the Footy show, thats what you get when the family weighs a thousand kilos!

Souths are the team to beat this year.

Huge side with so much talent and they have depth as well.

They still have Matt King and Luke Burgess to come back into the team.

GI and Sutton are big enough to play in the pack.

Reynolds and GI is the key to their success this year and they won't lose many players to origin given they have lots of Poms and Kiwis.

Souths…monster pack who will steam roll every team in the comp...no wonder their backline looks so good...Would love to have Sam Burgess in our team....

As i said roosters talking them selves up and they got smashed they way the played they wont even make the 8 haha.

Not the most astute observation. Anyone knows a side with 4 or 5 new players always takes time to gel. They'll be in the 8, take that to the bank

Because they were too big and strong for us….not funny, a fact

Give most teams in the comp 70% of the ball in the first half and you'll find them hard to beat (eg last night and our game against the Roosters).
Even if the possession ratio evens out in the back end the damage has already been done.
Points have already been scored and energy reserves sapped.
On another note ,a bigger question is why some teams continually get hammered in the first half - it can't always be over enthusiasm or bad discipline.
How many times have you sat there and wondered why ,when every person in the world sees a player drop the ball cold , the ref calls it a strip?
Too often for my liking.
Surely the refs watching the replays week in , week out , can see they're being continually conned and be a bit more careful in their decisions.

Englis will dominate this year. More than last year. Is it me, or does Reynolds only get involved kicking time? That said, with a pin point kick that he has, who needs him to do anything else. Even with his eyes covered with bandages last night he had it on a string (except for maybe 2 which went dead). Bunnies should be happy with that win last night. very convincing.

They were good but I would have liked to have seen the game with a more balanced penalty count. It's easy to get on a roll when you get the early penalties. Just look at the Foundation Cup. That being said, they will be strong this year. I do think the Roosters will have more to offer than they showed last night.

Too much hype around SBW wouldn't have helped the Roosters cause last night. Would be bloody off-putting I reckon. With the God-like status the media have been giving him, the rest of the team might have thought that they didn't need to turn up!

Back on Souths, injuries to key players will probably be the only thing that can stop them this season. Yet, with all their size, I actually believe it would be the loss of the little men that would hurt them most. They played like they had no idea when Reynolds went down in the semi final last year. Of course, Inglis would probably be the biggest loss, though.

Exactly
And why did we give them so much ball?
They were too big and too strong
Its quite simple yet you cant…or I think more to the point, dont want to see it.
Be ignorant

We didn't give them the ball.
Did being too big and too strong get them the first five penalties (or Souths about 9 of the first 10 penalties ?)
I thought that was the referee .
Did you even read past the first line of the post or are you such a know it all you thought you could guess the remaining six paragraphs?
