Fellow Tiger Supporters, I attended a Sportsman Lunch, Thursday 7 March, where Tim SHEENS was one of the speakers. Some of you may be interested to know the following, Questions from the floor, WHY WAS BRETT HODGO not resigned and then win Player of the Year in the UK??? SHEENS said, he basically wanted to much money…Sheens then went on to also say HODGO was a SLACK TRAINER...SHEENS could NOT answer why they didn't have someone to fill his boots!! ROBBIE and BENJI do GET ALONG...The Tigers basically have no money and cannot compete in the better player market. SHEENS was asked from the floor, "What was he doing now"? SHEENS replied, "GETTING PAID BY THE TIGERS FOR THE NEXT 2 YEARS FOR DOING NOTHING"!!! So, if the rumours are correct there is $800 000 large for the next 2 seasons going to waste,,I suppose that's why they call him "SHIFTY"!!!

And that's why most people dislike this bloke. What a goose.

In fairness though he signed a contract to say he would be paid out. Tigers have chosen to replace him as coach but can't deny him the money he is owed due to the contract they too signed… If it was you, would you seriously say 'keep the money you owe me guys, I don't mind'?

Perfect line… Good on him. He is getting the last laugh!

Those board members who pushed for him to be re-signed mid term should be made to put up the coin to pay the bloke!

I have been to alot of sports lunches and understand everyone wants you to be funny and say something a bit controversial but Hodgo is a very loyal clubman and I have never heard him say anything negative about the club or Sheens. For me his comments about him are cheap shots. I know it's not a terrible thing to say just cheap.
I also agree that Sheens is intitled to get whatever money he is owed by the club. I have never had a problem with that but do have a problem with the way he sits back and rubs it in our faces. Again IMO, cheap.
That is why I do not like him.

how did the powers that be let us go from one of the richer clubs ( well thats what the papers were reporting a few years back) to being on struggle street. i understand whats going on with balmain leagues has a lot to do with it but fair go :wtf and if that is the case why did he go all out to get blair when there was a hundred better uses for that price tag! :brick: heres hoping all our U20's are superstars and are signed to escape proof contracts! 😛ray:

My mistake, I forgot about the hodgo comment and agree with you on that. I disagree with you about him rubbing our aces in it. The issue would still be very raw with him and unless he said 'nah nah ni nah nah' in a childish fashion after the comment he made, I believe he's entitled to answer the question as truthfully as he did.

Fair enough.

IMO the club has a lot to answer on this subject but he is a big boy and is in a cut throat business. He can be dissapointed all he wants but the club has done nothing wrong to him, he had a contract that the club wanted out of. They told him and asked him to explore other options, he could not find one that suited him so the club is paying him out.

The board were morons for re-signing the clown no doubt, but at least they finally realised it was over for him. Sheens however will die believing he deserved to stay as coach and wasn't driven out through results, but by players.

It is all in the context of how he said it, if he just said "ah, Hodgo wanted too much cash so he went to the UK, besides he probably likes it better over there 'coz he wouldn't have to train hard ….he never was too keen on training while he was at the Tigers" treat it like the light-hearted jibe that it is. I highly doubt he would of had a mean-spirited serious shot at Hodgo?

As far as him taking $800 000 from the Tigers, IMO he is entitled to it. Whoever on the WT board thought it would be a great idea to sign him up on such a long term contract extension should be the ones copping the flak. I hope they have learned their lesson so it doesn't happen again.

Yeah but who will have the last laugh Sheens will be unemployed as far as the NRL is concerned within 2 seasons

Being fair the Hodgo thing might be a private joke between them

For a bloke that was a poor trainer he was the one bloke I would of picked first in any Tigers side during his time here

Futher to the Sportsmans Lunch I attended where Tim Sheens spoke, he was on FOX 360 show the previous night and the first thing I noticed, Sheens was wearing the same NRL Aussie Polo. It struck me as weird he would wear the SAME SHIRT, he must have 20 of them or "OUR" $800 000 is not being spent on his wardrobe!

Sheens was very serious when he spoke, I don't believe SHEENS was having a cheap shot at HODGO. But answered the question very poorly, when you consider the following, HODGO was a MAJOR PLAYER in our attack OFTEN being 1st Reciever, Kicking Goals at 79%, Safe as Houses under any bomb, a INSPIRATION on the field playing at only 75 kgs. And SHEENS just laughed off when it was mentioned that HODGO WON the BEST PLAYER in the UK the year after shown the door and then only LAST YEAR, HODGO WON Man of Match in the Challenge Cup Final,,AFTER being KNOCKED OUT!!

Further. SHEENS had no one to replace HODGO, Remember Shannon McDonnell (released to the Knights and now playing in the UK) and "SON" of "OUR" Man in Charge of Recruitment and Retention, WARREN McDONNELL, if SHEENS had Shannon penciled in as Hodgo's replacement it never worked.

There have been so many confusing decisions made by "OUR" Retention and Recruitment, courtesy of Coach SHEENS and WARREN McDonnell. And, yet they have never been asked to explain??

I agree with comments re "OUR" Board re-signing Sheens.

The West Tigers Board are the "ONLY" NRL Club, that "DOES NOT" have to have a "OPEN AGM" to the Memebers/Supporters. Due to part to the way the West/Balmain merger occurred. Which is beyond laughable.

There was a real smugness about the way SHEENS told the audience " HE WAS GETTING PAID BY THE TIGERS FOR THE NEXT 2 YEARS TO DO NOTHING"…Which left me feeling saddened. I don't blame Sheens. What was he supposed to do!!! Again,,the BOARD!!!

Finally, Sheen's let it be known in no uncertain terms, it was "THE PLAYERS" that got him the SACK! Which if true, are the patients running the Looney Bin!!!

Through it all though, I felt Sheen's has FORGOT, that in his REIGN as Head Coach, "OUR" Team made the Top 8 only 3 times in 10 years...A 50% pass mark 3 times in 10 Years.

Sheen's mentioned that the Tigers have no money to compete with the BETTER PLAYERS, which makes it hard to fathom they why SHEEN'S would as reported fork out 1/2 a million on Adam Blair, when a HALF-BACK has been required since Scottie PRINCE departed!!!???

The "ONLY" thing I do know,,,Coaches and Players come and go..."US" SUPPORTERS ARE HERE FOR LIFE!!! I wish the MIGHTY WEST TIGERS a BRILLIANT 2013 and a TOP 4 POSITION!!!

Further to my above comment, I do remember hearing at the time Hodgo was a bad trainer. But for Sheens to offer that as one of the reasons for letting him go is laughable….....why did Sheens want Hodgo captain when Prince left if that was such an issue???

Im actually getting pretty dirty at this information you are providing PaperScissorsRock. Not at you, at this dillusional has been Sheens

I can understand him being bitter….but ( if this is all above board) he's directing it to the wrong people, his ex players..... he does has form for burning his bridges tho

Gee the hide of the guy!
So he gets sacked and now has an issue with the club and some players. Go figure?

Of course Sheens blames the players for being sacked because its absolutely true.
Once a coach loses the dressing room it's only a matter of time before he is punted.
It was quite obvious for all to see over the last couple of rounds in 2012 that the players had lost faith.

It does highlite tho how Balmains current predicament can impact on WTs as a whole
–------------------------------

I keep hearing ''we have no money'' to compete.
Why?

We have good sponsors - the richest bloke in the country - our players are everywhere doing 3rd party stuff...our crowds are generally good....why cant we get the players the Dogs Roosters Rabbitohs get?
