Squad for the Auckland 9's

its a comp you play to win a side like our side needs every bit of confidence it can get winning breeds winning why bother with this side awful

Feels like we're riding into battle waving the white flag.

I know they'll be doing their best tho , so let's go boys.

Very uninspiring side, i know it is only a mickey mouse competition but i am sure that they will try their best

Don't understand the point of signing an Australian 7s rep and then not playing him in the 9s…
Niggling injury perhaps?

Mickey Mouse tournament but we need to hit the ground running, gain confidence, get positive press, attract memberships and put a crappy off season behind us. So I think we should have picked the best squad of fit players and tried bloody hard to win it. That doesn't seem to be the case unless of course this is the best available

Very disappointed Parahi and Rankin aren't playing.

Rankin would have been there but has picked up a knock to the knee in training…Parahi I'm not sure,,,

I would be taking fully fit players anyone with a niggle I wouldn't risk...There is enough experienced players in the squad...Keen to see how the others go...lets face it 2 nine minute halves of 9's footy a game isn't going to reveal too much...

It is a dud side but its what i was expecting m not too worried about it.

Guys like the Plodder, Laurie Lawrance, Ava, Milone and co arnt exactly going to light up the fans in Auckland.

If Teddy, Brooks or Moses did a knee everyone would be up in arms.

Last year Sirro got injured and missed the first 3 months.

We need to start the season proper well. Now maybe they could have gained more confidence by playing full strength here, i can see that argument. However your damnt if you do damnt if you dont really.

Im ok with it.

Yeah no Parahi, rugby 7's specialist but can't get a run in the NRL 9's .. wow. Maybe he is training and coming along so well they are saving him for his debut in the top grade ?? Addo Carr has plenty of speed to burn so he will be exciting to see, Justin Hunt is flyer as well, then there's Simona, Naiqama, Heleta, Drinkwater, and Littlejohn for backs. Chee-Kam will play anywhere forwards or backs, and will be interesting to see how Griffin goes, hard runner, light on his feet and get step for a forward.

Well the footy season is almost here waahoo, let's hope everyone gets through injury free. Bring it on .. !! :sign:

Parahi is not playing 9s because they are trying to get that style of play out of his game and convert him to 13 man a side league player. Spent all off season teaching him how to play league they don't want him playing in 9s style footy

I'd say most teams will send a similar team in terms of relative strength, so we're not exactly letting the comp down.
We sent a weaker team last year IIRC, and made the last 8.

It's a fair side given a couple of possibles were selected for the tournament up on the Central Coast for today. I would be surprised if we make it out of our group tbh.

Just on that - these are the squads for our group opponents (NQ are TBA).

Newcastle Knights: Jaelen Feeney, Lachlan Fitzgibbon, Brock Lamb, Danny Levi, Jake Mamo, Chanel Mata'utia, Pat Mata'utia, Sione Mata'utia, William Pearsall, Tyler Randell, Robbie Rochow, Nathan Ross, Korbin Sims, Tariq Sims, Daniel Saifiti, Jacob Saifiti, Joseph Tapine, Akuila Uate.

Penrith Panthers: Waqa Blake, Reagan Campbell-Gillard, Bryce Cartwright, Zach Dockar-Clay, Ben Garcia, Corey Harawira, Robert Jennings, Sione Katoa, Jeremy Latimore, Moses Leota, Josh Mansour, Te Maire Martin, James Segeyaro, Chris Smith, Will Smith, Elijah Taylor, Dallin Watene-Zelezniak, Isaah Yeo.

Not as if we're playing full strength teams, so every game will be a bit of a lottery.
