Standing Room Only??

Um, what would they say?
They would limit the crowd to the quoted maximum crowd capacity which for Campbelltown I believe is 17,500 but I stand to be corrected if anyone knows if that is still the current limit.

Due to crowd death tragedies overseas, including England & Scotland, safety officials don't look too kindly upon venues allowing over crowding.

I'd fully support the club making both hills (safely) standing only to sell more tickets and boost the atmosphere. If you want to sit down for 80 minutes you can get seats in one of the grandstands. It's a good problem to have. Especially given that more people from Campbelltown are going to want to attend the match after what happened last Sunday.

Its held 20k in the past.. but can understand having the attendance capacity slightly under that. In any case, next to zero chance of a terrace crush like you'd see in the UK at the height of hooliganism, for a variety of reasons.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see the place packed to the rafters & then some, but I remember at Leichhardt they were forced to limit the number & had to turn people away on at least one, possibly more games in the last year or two.

Crowd safety was cited at least at the one game that I remember, people were saying 3 to 5 thousand got turned away. They had pre sold most of the tickets leaving only 1000 or so for game day. Apparently people managed to sneak in, with the 17 odd thousand official crowd figures it was more realistically closer to 20,000.

normally when they have to turn people away at the gate for GA at LO the club in the past goes down the line and a yone attending with kids have been pushed to the front to allow to get in

Good

Sensible Post.
We arent idiots to overcrowd the area or to bush people into caged fences.

The Hill idea is great and will create an awesome experience like they do at LO.

This will make Campbeltown a better venue for us Fans

If the plans go ahead, the Northern Hill at least will be no more, with a new Northern grandstand attached to a new Centre of Excellence as part of the $40m + upgrade.

Wests Tigers deliver message to fans in rare move ahead of clash against decimated Broncos

Wests Tigers officials will take the unusual step of asking fans to stand on the hill during their round 7 blockbuster against the Broncos on Saturday night. The move comes in response to the enormous groundswell of support for Benji Marshall's men, who will host the reigning premiers in front of an expected sell-out crowd at Campbelltown Stadium as they chase a fourth-straight win.

More than 15,000 fans turned out to see the Tigers thump Newcastle at the same ground last Sunday to jump into second on the ladder. And Wests Tigers chief executive Shaun Mielekamp says the club is planning to make space for close to 2000 extra supporters to pack into the stadium for Saturday night's showdown against Michael Maguire's under-strength Broncos.

Mielekamp noted that many fans were sitting on the hill during the family-friendly Sunday afternoon timeslot against the Knights last weekend. But the club will encourage fans to stand during the Saturday night game against Brisbane, in a move designed to allow an extra 1300 fans to watch from the hill.

There will also be extra space for some 500 supporters on a section of the hill where the Channel Nine marquee is usually set up. The TV network is not broadcasting the Saturday night game so it presents the club with an opportunity to push the ground capacity to more than 17,000 against the Broncos.

“There was a lot of people seated on the hill (against Newcastle),” Tigers CEO Mielekamp told News Corp. “We will ask everyone to stand up, which is more appropriate on a Saturday night than on a Sunday afternoon for families.

“So we can maximise our opportunities on the hill, we will need people to stand as we can get as many people into the ground as we can for what will be a blockbuster match. It’s a little bit different (to the Newcastle game) but we will get a bigger crowd and are definitely expecting a sellout. Our aim is to get 17,000."

Surprising ask from the club.

I remember going to the record 20k+ game against the Cowboys in 2005 and recall nearly everyone seated on the northern hill.
Was that before or after the Eastern "Grandstand" was built?

The building of that poor excuse for a grandstand effectively reduced the ground capacity. Had it been the full length of the field (like the concourse) crowd capacity wouldn't have changed greatly, depending on it's height & depth it could actually have boosted capacity by some 500 to 1500.

I don't recalled ever getting asked at LO to stand, if it was packed you stood or you couldn't see if it wasnt as packed you could sit, but you'd be up and down all game anyway.
Just common sense, but i guess they are more or less putting it out there beforehand if you don't like it or can't stand probs best not to go.

Maybe not the night to bring the younger kids to.
I reckon it's going to get a bit rowdy & bawdy out there regardless if they are getting a lot of bad calls, copping a beating or even if they're flogging the Broncos when some of the less classy locals will be tanked BEFORE they even walk in the gates.😉😆

No issue for me, well apart from a knee awaiting replacement, but for kids and those not very tall it can be a big problem trying to see much of the play if they are not at or towards the front.

I know people who jump the back fence at every Leichhardt game
