Starting Lock?

I'm not sure if it's been discussed elsewhere but interested to know who people would have as the starting lock?

You could almost put your house on the following forward pack

8.Woods
9.Farah
10.Galloway
11.Blair
12.Ellis
13?

So it leaves it between Heighno and Fulton. Personally I would go with Fulton just for the balance of the side with Heighno to add more impact off the bench.
 
I say Heighington.

He's the heart of our pack and I feel that Fulton can add more from the bench, coming on in the latter stages of each half and his mobility, agility and ball playing skills being an added advantage over a tired opposition pack.

I also think that Heighington will start because when Dwyer pushed his way into the starting side, it was Fulton who dropped back to the bench, not Heighno.

It will be interesting, but I think it's a win-win situation either way. Both players give their all and have excellent workrates. Heighno off the bench may add more impact during the middle of the game, but Fulton's defence around the ruck is always invaluable in this scenario also. Toss a coin.
 
I think the obvious choice would be Heigno, but i got a feeling Fulton might be better suited. I've always wanted to see Fulton as a ball playing lock, but he's never realy had a chance to play as one
 
Yeah I'm of the belief that Heighnington adds a little more off the bench than Fulton. I'm with GNR it seems that Fulton has always been the right person for that ball playing lock position but he's not really ever settled there.
 
You would have to think it will be Heighno considering he has owned the jumper, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Ellis start there in 2012 to play it tight like Gallen…

Heighington would be my first pick!
 
Heighington with Fulton on the bench.

Can't see a big enough reason to change a winning combo.
 
There is a chance that Blair will start in the front row , then hieghno would start at second row , Fulton at lock and woods from the bench .

I'd give Fulton the 13 to start, purely to exploit the middle with his ball playing ability now that there's size around him. Heighington has notoriously provided quantity over quality, perhaps with a stint in the middle forty he could use a smaller stint to run harder and use his size a little better.

Dwyer didn't actually push his way in, Fulton was injured in round 1\. Simon played very well for a few weeks after that, then slowly went off the boil before the unfortunate happened. Liam was on the bench when he returned from injury….etc.
 
Heighny will start at lock probably & stay there if he maintains fitness & form as the incumbent lock.
 
Wouldn't go wrong with either of them playing there, but if Fulton plays anywhere near the form he was in last year, then I would give him the start.
 
It's a tough one i'd like to see both of them start and play as many minutes as possible imo Fulton is a classic lock so i would have him there and do this.

I understand you point bob56, but Fulton returned from his shoulder injury in round 6 (if my memory serves me correctly) and Dwyer's unfortunate injury didn't happen until rd. 16\. That's 10 weeks to regain your position. In my opinion, it shouldn't take a fully fledged first grader to reclaim his starting position from a rookie.

As I said, I understand your point and it is a valid one, but still believe that Dwyer managed to maintain Fulton's starting position when they were both fit and playing well (even with Dwyer's slight drop in form).

Now we have size in our pack I would start we ball playing lock Fulton. I think Heighington off the bench could come on to replace Woods or Galloway pushing Blair or Ellis into the front row for a period of the game.

Fulton is an 80 minutes player and his ball playing and great hole running is what we need.

I also like the option of Blair in the front row with Heighington second row and Fulton lock allowing Woods to come off the bench.

Blair gives us a number of options.

Finally we have a quality pack and excellent juniors coming through.
