Stats question

Every year we seem to have a losing streak at some point. Can anyone tell me if we've ever had a year where we haven't lost 3 - 6 games in a row?

I want to basically know what year we had our shortest losing streak.

Hope that makes sense.

We have had two seasons where our biggest losing streak was 3 games, 2006 and 2011\. We have never had a season without a longer losing streak than 3 games.

in 2006 we went 21 rounds with our longest losing streak being 2 games, we then lost the next 3 and won the final game.

In 2014 we went 19 rounds with our longest losing streak being 2 games, we then lost the next 6 games and again won the final game.

Thanks mate, perfect.

If you have the info on hand, how many years have we had 2 or more losing streaks greater than 3 games?

For losing streaks of 3 or more games:

2000 - 2 streaks
4 Games (Rounds 17-20)
4 Games (Rounds 23-26)

2001 - 2 streaks
5 Games (Rounds 8-12)
3 Games (Rounds 24-26)

2002 - 2 streaks
6 Games (Rounds 8-14) - We had a bye in round 11
5 Games (Rounds 16-20)

2003 - 2 streaks
6 Games (Rounds 5-11) - We had a bye in Round 9
3 Games (Rounds 24-26)

2004 - 2 streaks
4 Games (Rounds 15-18)
3 Games (Rounds 24-26)

2005 - 1 streak
4 Games (Rounds 6-9)

2006 - 1 streak
3 Games (Rounds 22-26) - We had a bye in round 25

2007 - 1 streak
4 Games (Rounds 1-4)

2008 - 3 streaks
3 Games (Rounds 3-5)
4 Games (Rounds 14-18) - We had a bye in round 17
3 Games (Rounds 23-25)

2009 - 1 streak
5 Games (Rounds 8-13) - We had a bye in round 9

2010 - 1 streak
4 Games (Rounds 6-10) - We had a bye in round 9

2011 - 1 streak
3 Games (Rounds 15-18) - We had a bye in round 17

2012 - 3 streaks
5 Games (Rounds 2-6)
3 Games (Rounds 15-18) - We had a bye in round 17
3 Games (Rounds 24-26)

2013 - 2 streaks
7 Games (Rounds 4-10)
6 Games (Rounds 17-23) - We had a bye in round 18

2014 - 1 streak
6 Games (Rounds 20-25)

2015 - 2 streaks
4 Games (Rounds 9-13) - We had a bye in round 12
5 Games (Rounds 15-20) - We had a bye in round 18

2016 - 1 streak
6 Games (Rounds 3-8)

2017 (so far) - 1 streak
4 Games (Rounds 2-5)

And I believe these are all the losing streaks worse than 3 (I had to manually pull some out because it counts streaks above 3, i.e. 3s that become 4s and 5s and 6s, but I think I got them all):

I was looking at this too, do you find it odd how many of our losing streaks, bad losing streaks too, include byes? I kept noticing the streak dates weren't always ~7 days apart. Seems like a rest doesn't help us much, or at least doesn't help curtail a losing streak. One of those years both byes were in the middle of losing streaks.

the real question is whether that's the same as other teams who performed equally bad

i.e. is the reason we lose in streaks because we suck, or we go on losing streaks more than other teams

Thanks again.

Fixing this is our number one priority as a club I think. We get into a rut, we can also get on a roll, but not as frequently.

There are 5 years with a single streak of 4 games or less and we made the top 4 in 3 of them.

Pretty sad that we have had a lengthy streak every single year.

I had a feeling that we don't like byes, just a hunch that our second bye seems worse too, but it is a surprise to see just how poor we are around origin time given how few rep players we have had.

I think it's time to look at wins and losses post Kiama camps

On the flip side, I wonder how many clubs go consecutive years without losing 3 in a row at any stage.

Having a look through those stats made me realise how poorly we do in the last 3 rounds of the season. So I had a look at the stats for that too:
Round 24 - 5/17 = 29%
Round 25 - 4/16 = 25%
Round 26 - 5/16 = 31%

Our first round 25 win came in 2010
Our first round 26 win came in 2006

Yeah it was strange.
You would think a bye would help in that situation, particularly if you've already lost a few in a row, to help get back on track.

I'm not exactly sure what the stat is, I'd have to do more research, but there is a certain winning or losing streak that HUGELY increases your chances of playing finals. It's something like 6 wins and 5 losses, again I'd have to run the numbers, but if you can win ~6 in a row any time in the season you have a very high chance of ultimately making the finals, whereas a certain run of losses and you haven't much chance at all.

It's sort of a corollary of what you've noted, that if you limit your losing streaks you make the finals. 95% of all teams that win more than half their games in a season make the finals, and to think you only need to win 1-2 more than lose and make it, not such a huge achievement.

Based on my waters this morning I predict a Wests Tigers 18 game winning streak…

Re-assess from there..

So when you include semis into the Sheens era we won 122/250 games , 48.9% record

Interesting , didn't think it was that high

Gee's the non Sheens era % must be bloody ugly
