Stefano Utoikamanu #241

If he does let him go, if he's willing to take a 200k paycut to go elsewhere, how committed is he to helping us win a comp. I'd love for him to stay and become our forward leader but if that's his attitude, bugger him.
He is not going to take 200 less from any club. He may on paper but what ends up in the back pocket will be equal or more than our offer, probably more. The NRL can’t control the integrity of the salary cap and don’t even try. Every year it is the same story and the NRL never ever try and come up with a solution to the problem

True though the clubs write it off as 3rd party payments that are not covered under the salary cap. It's always been the league of the have and the have nots.

I think his offer should be withdrawn. He's basically saying if he gets a better offer he's going. And do we really want to keep him if he doesn't get a better offer?

You only have to see that he's lifted just because he wants to test the market. If he stays he just goes back to what he was doing before. Very little
Or do we want him to stay if he doesn't want to be here....I think we need to let him go if his heart and soul isn't with us !

Will learn a bit about Stef in coming weeks.

My guess is he will leave, try his guys out and finally be consistent to try and make himself feel better about slinking off, and no one will ask him why he didn't play like this his whole time here.

Next most likely he stays and kicks on with not only Api, but Luai feeding him. In this scenario he has every chance of being in a team that becomes a force again.

Does the NRL still have the notional value of a player to prevent clubs signing players for less than their estimated value under the salary cap?

Lets face it... Stef started the new year like tarzan and we had a few great wins however, he dropped off his intensity during our losing streak.
Now given permission to test the market, he has puffed his chest out again for all the world to see.
For me, he has shown his cards. The kid can play and is a good front rower, "when he wants too" but he's not a leader, not yet.
The club should sign him however, for a shorter stint and not be held to ransom.

Although I don’t in anyway blame the salary cap if the big bloke walks. The way our club was run for most of the past decade was shambolic. Things may have turned the corner now, but if the big bloke can get the same money at a club that is a lay down certainty for final football, you don’t blame him for grabbing the opportunity

When WTs attempts to bridge the gap by bringing outstanding young talent through, the old chestnut of wanting to play for a "winning club" is brought forth. Anyone who doesn't believe this behaviour is the product of envy is naive.

If he actually put in 100% effort week in week out we might be a chance of playing finals too.

Compare that "I want to join a club that will take me to the finals" mindset to Luai's "I'm gonna take these boys to the finals".
It just shows me he's mentally weak.
We need blokes that think like Luai not big sook passengers.

much easier if you already have multiple premiership rings. I get it if Steff walks but don’t talk rubbish in the media (like being a captain and how he wants to be remembered as a winner etc)

I doubt it. It was not long ago that Wighton knocked back a deal of $1.1m from the Raiders to go to Souths for $100000s less. Souths said they were only paying him to play in the centres. Guess where he is playing now.

This will be our biggest challenge, trying to keep them all togeather. Keeping the managers and opposition at bay aswell as keeping the guys happy until we can breed a winning culture they want to be apart of.

Tallis said it perfectly his job never changes no matter where he goes as a prop and there isn't any better in the business at giving him service than Api.
