Stefano Utoikamanu #241

The comments he has made about wanting to play in a winning side, ring plenty of alarm bells with me. Sounds like he wants to win by relying on his teammates doing it for him. Not comments made by a leader. Entitled attitude which shows no loyalty to the club or his mates. He’s as good as gone.
Agreed, so all that happened in the meeting with the great Richo, was stef got his way! What did we get out of it??

I think his offer should be withdrawn. He's basically saying if he gets a better offer he's going. And do we really want to keep him if he doesn't get a better offer?

You only have to see that he's lifted just because he wants to test the market. If he stays he just goes back to what he was doing before. Very little

I would reduce our offer.

I am sure the conditions of testing the market are to enable us final right of reply...

It is incumbent to work in good faith until he advises that he is considering an external offer - but it is all on the table now while he openly explores the crossroads...
Don’t the new rules mean the current club gets last rights in all contracts?

Not when we have given him extraordinary permission to negotiate prior to formally becoming a free-agent...

That is a loophole that I'm sure our new CEO covered in making this agreement!

No, it allows Tigers to actively start to spend the money they had pegged for Stefano.

If we leave the offer to Stef open indefinitely, he can make us wait and eventually negotiate with other clubs.

But with this move, we can offer his deal to someone else now and not be caught out at end of season if Stefano leaves.

Richo is playing it out as he needs to in the media. We don’t know what is going on behind the scenes. I’m sure the club has some plans in place - just depends who would come to us and whether they are a match for Uto.

Time . He moved it out of the offseason and into the mid season , forcing a resolution one way or the other . I’m assuming Richo has some players in the hook , to replace him . I don’t know who , but there was rumours of a gun prop in England . So maybe that bloke whoever they are .

That’s not true. There is still a 10 day right of reply window for the players current club. Remember Panthers still had a 10 day window to try and retain Jarome despite him telling them he is going to look at other clubs weeks before that.
They effectively negotiated a best and final with him but even still they had one last chance to retain him once it was mentioned he signed with us.

No that doesn't clarify what I already knew.

Can an external party discuss contract terms officially or unofficially with, for example, Lachie Galvin today, without breaking any of the new CBA rules? Can I take official terms from the Roosters to Lachie's manager and present those terms for negotiation, starting 2027?

I would not be asking him to break contract and I would not be putting an actual contract in front of him, just sitting down with him, his manager, his Mum and Dad, his Pop and his dog, about season 2027. Then the official contract is submitted end of 2025. Is this permitted?
We all know this goes on and nothing is ever done about it. The NRL can't police it anyway. Has anyone ever been punished or fined for this stuff? Or are we to believe it has never occurred.

Incentivising or not, it's up to the club that holds the contract if they want to release the player.

The finer details or what is and isn't permitted doesn't matter when it's not illegal for 2 people to talk privately over coffee.
