Steve Folkes Joins Wests Tigers !!

Im not sure why so many are happy about this.

Wasnt if Folkes who led the dogs to the wooden spoon last year?

And before that a slew of finals series and a premiership.

Which one do you look at. The big picture or one terrible year of injury, betrayl and a self imploding culture out of control.

Look at the wonders Big Willie did to the Roosters since moving there

It is a great signing. Dogs teams have always been fit.

I like the idea of Sheens may be moving into a football or coaching director role. Similar to Lang at Souths.

That leaves Simmons, Folkes and Gentle (or a combination) as potential first grade coaches.

I can;t how Taylor can keep his job at Souths if he did throw the first punch. How canhe face his players with any authority next year?

If this eventuates 2010 promises to be a great year
I know Sheens & Folkes are close friends so could it be that Sheens is hand picking his succsesor for 2011??
& also my souths mate tell me that Flanagan is favourite for the job

my theory is coming true i think. i predicted that sheens would retire after next year and soley focus on the aussie job, getting folkes in a year ahead of time is making sense so he can learn the ins and outs of this club and its players

and on second thoughts.. could the clause be that he is too take over after 2010, if sheens stays on he has a get out clause.
or something to do with sheens going for south sydney gig?

If he does end up staying, I really hope we have seen the last of the repeated injuries our players seem to get.

If you want a hamstring injury, and to sit out for half the season, come to the Wests Tigers! :sign:

The telecrap indicates that Folkes is coming to the Wests Tigers as the Head Trainer under Sheens…. the get out clause it refers to is for Folkes to go to Souths should Taylor get the bullet as expected this arvo.....

Sheens has never sought out the Souths gig......it was all paper speculation.....they frequent here so i'ts no wonder.....Bug is a very reliable source you know......

whats a head trainer responsible for.
Keeping them all fit… will he be involved in any team selection or tactics or anything along those lines.. or is that purely up to sheens.

Very strange and I strongly suspect there is a lot more to this story, in particular the reasons behind it. Can't imagine it would be an easy dynamic having a guy with the credientials of Folkes as a head trainer. Look for real pressure on Sheens next season if things dont improve, as there is now an obvious replacement working at the club.

Maybe Folkes just needs a job to pay the bills. He has just finished a stint as a Head Trainer and is now unemployed, we need a new head trainer. It keeps him in paid employment close to the NRL until another full-time job comes along.

It's a good fit.

I will be forever grateful to Mr Sheens. His coaching ability gave us a Premiership with a team of youngsters and nobodies. No other coach in the world could have masterminded 2005\. Look at all the better credentialled teams than us that haven't come close to winning a comp (e.g Parra, Dragons).

Or maybe Sheens wants to retire and is not interested in going anywhere else. The board know this and has agrred to bring in Folkes as his successor and will hand the reigns over. Next year could be his last hurrah and plans on leaving a legacy with old mate Folkes at the helm.

Sheens won't retire…get real....Sheens is like my old man....who would have wanted to die on the Golf Course..... Sheens eats and breathes league.....expected him to leave this Earth, at a close game on fulltime......like a game against Manly at the SFS, last month

Great move by Sheens if Folkes decides to stay here. With Folkes having an entire pre-season to prepare our forwards, this could be the best move ever by Tim Sheens. As well as that, I think having Folkes around while Tim is on Australian duties makes me more comfortable than leaving the side with Roycie on his own.

i think he will retire at the end of next year, he has the aussie job and that will give him more time back in NTH QLD where his wife lives

i mean no disrespect to head trainers but folkes is far above being a head trainer, i honestly think he will be our coach from 2011, and next year will folkes getting to know the players the club and input into the clubs future direction

Last time i checked, Cherry Mescia was not and has never been the 'Head' trainer. Andrew Leeds has been the club's Head trainer since Bryan Hider retired. Mescia has been the Performance Co-ordinator of Wests Tigers since 2004\. Who says Cherry won't be at the club in 2010? Leedsie and Alan Mair have been Wests trainers in 2008-09\. Are one of those two stepping down? Just goes to show that this latest piece of journalism translates to nothing and is extremely mis-leading.

Roycie is one of the Australian assistant coaches
