Storm may rest players

Resting players would be stupid, it hurt them before.

Has anyone really enjoyed this season?

Other than a couple of games, it has been pretty horrible. Even from game 1.

You'd think they may rest players if they were cruising, on top of their game….but the way they played last night, where no one could catch a ball, their attack was all out of kilter.....I think Bellamy would be hoping for some cohesion from his strongest 17 very very quickly, resting players wouldnt give him that opportunity

I am sure we will help them get some form before the semi's !

Yep i am also hoping for a panthers upset. **Brisbane has been terrible of late** and the panthers looked good in beating the Titans last week. if not the warriors need to fire up for us. They were pathetic last week and i am hoping a rocket from the coach and sheer pride might lift them for their last game of the year and they are also at home so hees hoping.

A 1 point loss to Melbourne and within 10 of Manly is hardly terrible form. They rebounded much better than us after also suffering a heartbreaking 1 point loss the previous week - I think they will win well.

Minor Premiership is now up for grabs - Storm have plenty to play for. I can't see them resting anyone - we're gone people let's face it.

Named with only one change from last nights game for whatever that is worth

Mmmmmmm …. We could be in a spot of bother !!! :nerd:

That won't be the team that runs out, it's a typical Monday cut and paste job. I'll be shocked if slater plays, cronk would be a huge chance to be rested too

O'Neill didnt play last night…dane Neilsen did

Some melb storm, frootloop fan called shane said the same thing on 2SM

they can rest as many players as they want.
who ever gets elevated to first grade will give it their best.

and more than likely win.

From what i witnessed vs Roosters , we are a laughing stock and as much as ive been hammered at work (it's true).
For me we are gone, and even if we miraculously got in the semi's we would just be delaying the inevitable.
This year has been massive dissappointment, i expected minimum top 4.

Resting is a big risk. Ours boys have rested all year and look where it has got us.
I seriuosly hope Melb are at full strength, I've had enough embarrassment for one year and a loss ala baby broncos would see me off.

We could only beat them by 4 when they were missing Smith ,Cronk ,Slater

This season has been more disappointing that 2006 -2009 combined

Change and Accountability

Thats all I want to see from 2012 onwards

Very good point . It's been a while since i wanted a season to end , might sound like sour grapes but ive been mauled at work hahahha!!!!!!!

Doesn't matter who the Storm rest, won't help us given I can't see Penrith beating Brisbane, wouldn't be surprised if Penrith get lapped.

Based on what? they're still in with a chance of winning the MP, they're in no position to be resting players. More like wishful thinking on your part

OMG people … Too much negativity.
We're still alive (just), so let's bloody cross our digits and hope.

I disagree with the getting a touch up in the semis thing too ... Form is so fleeting ... If we survive into next week we're just as likely to be red hot ... Who knows ???

Win/lose/make it or not ... Let's enjoy the journey ... And if it goes pear shaped, there's shelf upon shelf of dirt cheap sorrow syrup to be found at my mate Dan Murphys

i admire your optimism, but after that crap we put up on the weekend i fail to see how we have any chance at all. its been the same story all year. i cant help but think it'll be the same again next. we have gone 5 years with the 'its coming next year' attitude. there comes a point you just need to accept the reality of the situation.

IF MELBOURNE are serious about playing with fire and resting players from their last game of the regular season against Wests Tigers, they are not letting on.

Less than 24 hours after Storm coach Craig Bellamy said he might rest some players from the game at Leichhardt Oval on Saturday, the club named a side unchanged from the one that pulled off a great escape to beat Cronulla at AAMI Park on Monday. But there is no guarantee that will be the team that takes the field.

Clubs must name teams on the Tuesday before each round and it is not unusual for them to name the same team for the following weekend as the one that played on Monday simply because they haven't had time to properly review form and consider injuries.

''Obviously next week is a short turnaround from a Monday night game, so we'll have a look at what's the best thing for the team,'' Melbourne coach Craig Bellamy said after his team had scored two late tries to beat the Sharks 20-18.

''There could be a couple of individuals who might need a rest. There's a couple of guys who have been playing reserve grade who haven't played a lot of NRL, so it might be a chance to give them a run,'' Bellamy said.

''But we don't want to affect the momentum, either. We want to build the momentum, so it's probably important most guys play next week.''

Memorably, Melbourne rested two of their so-called ''big three'' - fullback Billy Slater and hooker and captain Cameron Smith - and were missing several others in the final round last season having already secured the minor premiership.

The resulting 40-8 thrashing at the hands of Sydney Roosters, exposing the fact that beneath the top layer of superstars - Cooper Cronk completes the big three - Melbourne were vulnerable.

Melbourne survived the first week of the finals, beating eighth-placed Newcastle 18-8, but after advancing to week three they were eliminated by the Warriors, 20-12\. The Storm had gone into the finals off the back of two straight losses, having been beaten by Manly in the penultimate round.

The Storm have won four in a row and are guaranteed of finishing in the top two and getting a home game in the first week of the finals. Hence the declaration from Bellamy that he may rest players.

But if Melbourne do rest players, then they are bound to think very carefully about who to rest, because they wouldn't want to risk going into the finals off the back of a bad loss.

Competition leaders Canterbury had a bad loss against Canberra last weekend, but have the chance to regroup in the final round when they play Sydney Roosters at ANZ Stadium on Saturday night.

The Tigers have their own problems, though, with Liam Fulton having joined hooker and captain Robbie Farah as being unavailable to play against the Storm because of injury. The versatile Fulton stood in for Farah in last weekend's heavy loss to the Roosters, and Masada Iosefa will be the starting hooker this week.

The ninth-placed Tigers have injury and form concerns, but at least know they have to win to have any chance of making the finals.

Meanwhile, Warriors halves James Maloney and Shaun Johnson have paid the price for their team's awful season. Halfback Johnson has been dropped for the game against Canberra at Mt Smart Stadium on Sunday, and five-eighth Maloney has been listed as the fifth man on a seven-man bench.

And South Sydney coach Michael Maguire has named Issac Luke as the sixth man on a seven-man bench for Friday's game against Newcastle at Hunter Stadium. Luke, normally the starting hooker, was dropped for last weekend's big win over Parramatta.

Storm will play their strongest side, flog the arse off us and season 2012 will end with our blokes being booed off their own ground…..or we win in a brilliant fashion.

Who knows with this schizophrenic side? My money is on option A.
