Storm play dirty

Always finding a mongrel way to get the upper hand. There may be debate over this but the try they scored from the scrum resulted from Thiaday being held back. I wonder what will be in store for us?

I didn't think I was dirty, it was very smart play on bellamys behalf.

players shouldn't be able to break as quickly as they do especially props.

Good try I say

5.1.22 Any forward can detach himself/herself from the scrum to gather or kick the ball when the ball has
emerged from the scrum correctly, even if the scrum
has wheeled, provided that the player who detaches
from the scrum is not in front of a team mate who last touched the ball

ie: forawrds can break when the balls out of the scrum….the ball was out and two passes thrown before thaiday was released

Shouldve been penalised

What a weak example. Sure it might have been an illegal play but it was one that could have happened to any team

Do u agree with it?

I believe it was a form of obstruction, I said it shouldve been penalised.

They ruled it was a natural part of the scrum, forwards must be bound….but we can see in the vid the ball is out and two quik passes thrown yet Thaidays still held onto

Now theyve got one....they'll keep trying it until theyre pinged

Bellamy is a supercoach because he can squeeze every ounce out of his troops, that said, he is also the architect behind all the crap they have bought to the game. He looks for loopholes in the rules unlike anyone else ever has, and sucks every inch he can get out of them. Before his tenure at Melbourne ends, I guarantee the league will have to adjust the rules multiple times to purge his latest and greatest schemes.

Not sure what you are trying to say? You concede that it is illegal but what is the point you are making with the next bit of your post? I can't figure it out.

Pretty simple

It was something any team could have been penalized for, its not an example of a grubby tactic that would only be used by the Storm.

I agree with Tigergirlz, I think it was a dirty play, but as usual they get away with it because they only bent the rule and didn't completely break it. Imo,Thaiaday was held onto in the same manner as a player being held back when contesting for the ball. The ruling about it still being part of the scrum was BS - the scrum had well broken and the ball was 2 passes into play as Ink has mentioned. Holding onto and blocking players from taking part in the play is a major part of the NFL, but it has no place in the NRL.

Ahh ok.

But I haven't heard players blowing up about this tactic before so maybe the Storm are the first ones to exploit it. After all they are the masters of coming up with new (usually dodgy) tactics so it would not surprise if it was an intentional play and one they will persist with. Good luck to 'em if they continue to get away with dubious tactics but the bottom line is they shouldn't be getting away with it isn't it?

It was a terrible decision no doubt, but then again we wouldn't be talking about it today if the video ref pushed the right button. The negativity should be directed towards the officials not the Storm imo.

Correct, the officials in the NRL are possibly the worst in any international sport. The thing that irks me is how the Storm get away with certain things that other clubs do not get away with for the exact same infringement. It opens the NRL officialdom up to accusations of bias IMO.
It isn't just this one incident.

IMO this makes him a football genius who constantly uses innovation and deficiencies in the rules as well as the ineptitude of the officials to his advantage as per his mandate….the continued success of his side on the paddock. He makes most coaches look like idiots because he is always seeking evolution. He doesn't rest on what worked 3 years ago....

I agree… I called him a supercoach...

He is the kind of fella that makes Sheens look like a fool, but only because Sheens wasnt looking in the right places obviously based on results.

Some of Bellamy's innovation over the years has unfortunately been at the expense of the health of opposition players. He is obviously a very smart cookie, but not all of his 'evolution' strikes me as a way forward for the game.

Yep the wrestle, although revolutionary, has been to the games detriment. There are other examples….however that club and Bellyache personally seem to understand that the slow moving NRL will let them get away with it whilst arguing forever about remedies. Blame those that run the game. They are the worst administraters going. He is just doing what he is paid to do....win football matches and he is very good at it.
