Stupid Channel 9

sorry guys but seriously….it makes perfect sense to have the dragons game live down there. in saying that, i really do think they should start having 1 game live on 9 and the other game live on Go! TV or 9 HD or digital. I noticed that earlier in the year they started showing the afl footy show at 9:30 on thursday nights on an alternative channel 9\. cant see why its not a great idea to do the same with live football.

Under Federal Government legislation, NRL matches (and many other major sports) cannot be broadcast on digital before standard channels

That sucks, I'm guessing there is a sunset clause for when the digital switchover happens then?

For those that missed it:

Keep an eye out there anyone who can watch the game live… live stream online. The station becomes available at 6:35pm

And Justin.TV might have it, if anyone knows where to look.

just search NRL.. theres a few other sites that stream it cant remember offhand

but a quick google search with "sport streams" or something along those lines usually works.. some sites list it just as "rugby"

Is that right!!! Thats a rubbish regulation. Surely that will be disgarded once the majority of people have access to digital.

yeah k i was hoping Justin tv had a stream

hope its alright quality and it doesn't overload. no doubt all the south coast tiger and parra fans will be on there!

While I can empathise, welcome to my world in Brisbane. We have to endure that every week because of QLD teams being shown first.

My best advice is don't drink too much before the first game ends and have a little lie down beforehand so you're ready to go.

We all appreciate that Mikey and I'm sure those of us that are upset wouldn't mind it so much if they lived in the St George - Wollongong area (most of us complaining, don't) but those that are not connected to that little bit of geography have to put up with is unfair.

The Dragons have secured the Minor Premiership as far as I'm concerned or at the very least a spot in the top four. Brisbane are still trying to crack the Top 8, so the game only has any **real** meaning for Brisbane fans in the non Wollongong Illawarra area.

It seems I'm going to have to put up with a stuttering net broadcast instead. :brick: :brick: :brick:

Slightly more meaning to the game than that!!!

Bennett coaching against old team
Sailor playing against old team
Mundine and Tallis being poached from STG to Broncos
Past grandfinal confrontation

Add to that, that no matter how many turn up at the SFS it isnt going to sell out whereas id say Wollongong will sell out.

Add to that again, the its a ripper game with more rep players and with teams ranked 1 and 8 and opposed to the Tigers and Parra at 5 and 9.

There are many MANY reasons why that should be the live game. Its just unfortunate that those who cant travel to the SFS cant see it live.

I didn't say it was only in Wollongong I said it is BASED in Wollongong. With all due respect to the other places you name, Wollongong is by far and away their key area.

Not according to their own publicity blurb
The WIN Network reaches 42 percent of Australia’s 8.5 million homes and employs over 1400 staff across six states of Australia and the nation’s capital. Broadcasting throughout 27 markets, including its related companies Channel Nine in Adelaide and Perth, WIN’s transmission spans the largest geographical area in the world.

That's WIN the company. I doubt they pump out the same programming in Southern NSW as they do in Perth. We're talking about the WIN channel that you'd get in regional NSW (probably called WIN Illawarra).

Same way that Channel 7 or 10 have different schedules for their different broadcast areas.

That would be a good alternative for those fortunate enough to get digital. It's not scheduled here until 2013!! Living in the bush sux sometimes!

It's an anchronism from the early days of Pay-TV. The FTA networks actually fought for this regulation (it's more aimed at Standard Definition being the trigger for "protected content) so that by default you had to show certain events on FTA first. This was well before they thought about the day they (the FTA networks) would have digital channels in addition to their standard output.

I'm sure once everything goes digital they'll have new rules.

Only yossarian and FHgoodness seem to be using common sense here, the rest seems to be selfish biased tripe…

This totally sucks. Most of my mates who are dragons fans would actually rather watch us go around first!! Shows the logic in wins decision.

Nothing different for me. In central qld we get the qld teams games on first anyway - every week….boncos, cowbie or titsons

A few seconds delay should fix that.

Not sure the courts would consider that with-in the spirit of the legislation's intent. Besides then the door would be open for Foxtel to do the same.

As long as it is a FTA digital channel, a few seconds delay should fit within the spirit of the legislation, shouldn't it?

Besides it is selfish for the Wollongong Illawarra Network (WIN) to impose itself on regional markets beyond the Wollongong Illawarra area unless of course NSW is really considered Newcastle, Sydney, Wollongong as is often purported.

What about the markets well West of there, where normally WIN broadcasts (as a 9 regional affiliate) the Sydney based game and not the Queensland based game. This case is no different.

There is more to NSW than the metropolitan coast.
