Sunday afternoon footy at Leichhardt Oval snubbed

It's not a zero sum game and I'm not sure why you're pleased. Sunday @ Leichhardt doesn't need to mean no Sunday @ Cambo… To quote the girl from the Old El Paso ads "Why not both?"

So much for the brave new world and all the positive changes the IC and ARLC were going to bring, nothing but more disillusionment Im afraid…..the lopsidedness of it all .....the scale on how uneven and unfair this competition is run is mind boggling......I really feel like Im being used at times by a game Ive been born into and have grown to love, they exploit this passion in fans, clubs and the NRL alike and gouge as much out of us as possible....I will follow the greatest game till I kark it but geez its hard to see past the lopsidedness sometimes.

Yeah feel sorry for you up there Happy…it would be all Broncos, Broncos,Broncos in the media up there. The sooner they bring in a 2nd Brisbane team the better.
IMO Broncos home games are mainly pretty boring affairs (the Broncos can't score a try without it being from a bomb) and they are always saturated with home-town refereeing decisions and sickeningly biased and one-eyed commentary.

What makes it worse I live in Cowboy Country

We've even got a sign saying so

Nothing wrong with Cowboy country except it is too far south.

No Sunday afternoon games at Leichhardt Oval in 2013 NRL season draw

ONE of rugby league's favourite pastimes - watching Sunday afternoon football on a packed hill at Leichhardt Oval - will not be a feature of the 2013 season.

Perennial premiership contenders Manly have also been left stunned by seven scheduled games in the horror Monday night timeslot.

And premiers Melbourne will have to travel from the World Club Challenge in chilly England to the stifling tropical heat of Townsville in Round 2.

While most clubs were satisfied with the much-hyped draw that featured a full schedule for the first 20 rounds, there were a few quirks bound to get the fans talking.

Most notably is the decision to deny the Tigers a Sunday afternoon match at the suburban inner-west venue that has regularly sold out in recent years.

"All Sydney clubs would like to play all their games on a Sunday but the reality is you can't," Tigers chief executive Stephen Humphreys said.

"In some respects we are a bit of a victim of our popularity. We get picked up on Friday night often so it is a positive we are going to get a Sunday afternoon game at Campbelltown - and we haven't had much Sunday afternoon footy in Campbelltown for a while now.

"Leichhardt is great on a Sunday, but it is also great on a Friday night, and we have some nice big match-ups there."The Tigers host Parramatta for the first time in almost a decade at Leichhardt in Round 3 on a Friday night.

The Sea Eagles were dumped with seven Monday night matches, prompting coach Geoff Toovey to say: "They talk about the salary cap being important for making the competition equal, but what about the draw? How's it fair on the players? How's it fair on our sponsors?

"We've got seven Monday nights and I think the next most Monday nights is four (for another club). We'll cop it, but I think it's unfair and we've been hard done by."

Storm supremo Ron Gauci pointed out the team would need to return from balmy Townsville on a Sunday and get ready for the grand final replay at home just five days later against the Bulldogs.

In other draw news:

CANBERRA will feature on Nine just once, with chief executive Don Furner admitting things wouldn't improve "even if we won the comp".

Furner and Manly counterpart David Perry will leave for China on Monday week to step up talks about hosting their Round 11 clash in Shenzhen.

ROOSTERS chief executive Brian Canavan was delighted with the season opener against South Sydney, but disappointed the Chooks wouldn't travel to Brisbane or Melbourne next season, with strong supporter bases in both cities.

THE BULLDOGS play Newcastle in Mackay in Round 17, with club boss Todd Greenberg hinting they could remain in the Queensland town to host Melbourne the following weekend.

Well the 5:30 slot for Melbourne is an afternoon start with all three grades likely for the day.

Sounds great to me

That was my first thought as well Smeg. Quality opposition, good time slot, should be awesome.

It was also interesting to see we got the Broncos at C'town which should get a good crowd too.

We will need points from our first 3 games though because after that the run gets a bit tougher.

Well said Toovs, the NRL has got no idea about equality or at least trying to make it a level playing field as possible instead of being dictated to by 9 and foxtel. The team shafted the most IMO was the Raiders. How much less money will they be able to get in sponsorship revenue with only having the one FTA game compared to the team that continually gets a leg up on the rest off the teams the Broncos having so many and being in the position to make so much more money due to all their national exposure on prime time tv.

sponsorship money versus fans actually turning up? I think Manly are worse off than raiders.

monday games suck. crowds are always a lot smaller as people struggle to get their after work + it's a school night so less fun. I bet manly supporters are livid.

In terms of no liechardt on sunday, at least I went get sunburnt and have to stand with a program sheilding the sun from the hill like every other game!! but I do feel a lot for the families who may be reluctant to brave the hill given the amount of tins that get sunk on a Friday or saturday. I also think I'm unlikely to be able to make it early enough to catch the u/20s on friday nights where as on sunday they're the perfect warm up!

Its a shame that this occurs. Nature of the beast… Campbelltown have had one sunday arvo game in last 2 years. Monday night at campbelltown stinks and same for LO (traffic, work etc)

TV pay the bills... So they get the final say.

Would like to see Parra v WT in Balmain strip at Leichhardt and Manly v WT in Magpies strip at Campbelltown (manly have not played at Campbelltown in years)

Bring on 2013

No doubt the broadcaster's have a massive say and get the final say in the scheduling but the NRL should have a minimum amount of games that each club should play on certain days and then the broadcaster's have to work around that. It only needs to be say a token gesture of something like two FN games and two MN games. The Knights and Panthers have no FN games yet the Broncs have 8 in the first 11 rounds, then you have Manly getting 7 MN games while the Dogs have none. It would of been a nightmare trying to schedule the first 20 rounds but I personally feel it could of been done so it was fairer to all sides.

What I was trying to get at with the broncos being able to earn so much more money in sponsorship revenue compared to the Raider's is that each club can only have a certain amount of sponsors (main, sleeve, shorts, signage etc) so they would be able to charge more for their sponsorship compared to every other club due to their exposure on tv.

Now that is a great idea!

With C'town, any friday or saturday games make it very lucrative with the extra amount of traffic through the leagues club afterwards.

If you owned an Apple store would you remove the iphone from it's premium position and display it in the storeroom? Very poor decision to abruptly end one of the best marketing tools that this Club has. Sunday afternoon at Leichhardt has become iconic, it's now indisputably associated with the Tigers. It's a snapshot of what community based sport and it's passion is all about. Best of all it doesn't cost us anything to have the hill full, the sun out and and Channel 9 personnel cracking little stiffies throughout the two hours of the broadcast. Foolish decision, it will come back to bite us

x 2 CT, no matter what some may say, every other sydney nrl club would give their ' left one ' for that sunday arvo crowd and atmosphere that only leichardt has. terrible decision made by the commission, a joke and just plain wrong !

Pretty happy with the scheduling for C-town. Would have been nice to have more then 1 sunday arvo, but anyway, bring on round 2

Yes, very silly in terms of commercial marketability… I'm presumming this was a decision by Channel Nine mainly, but if you give some fool an idea and he takes it, you really dont have any reason to complain.

Give yourself an Upper-Cut Humpty! :bash

Disgraceful! You can't tell me channel 9 still doesn't have influence in the draw! They prefer tigers to have night games as Tigers always rate well. I only buy season tickets to ensure I get Leichhardt tickets for Sunday afternoon games and I take my kids as they aren't old enough for night games. No chance of renewing now.

The broadcasters decide the allotment essentially. They do not decide the draw but do decide the scheduling.

The CEO is right in the fact we are a victim of our marketability and see a lot of Friday night action.

On heritage strips I believe the Wests heritage strip makes an appearance at the SCG. Isn't it the 50th anniversary of that iconic image with Norm & Arthur??

Yes indeed! Its will be a wests strip on that day. WT wore heritage strips twice each in 2010 so maybe again in 2012\. Not sure what clash anniversary is in place for Balmain… Maybe vs dogs again (25 years since 88 GF)

Disappointed there's no Sunday Leichhardt games, but there will be a cracker Sunday game against Penriff at CSS.

Very disappointing they didn't make the Manly match up @ CSS a Sunday game as well, especially if both sides are playing out of their skins.

Good news that we're only playing Easts once this year.
