It would be interesting if there were no games at Leicchardt.

im Assuming our supporter base would diminish remarkably.

Rubbish. Support has increased despite dropping games at Leichhardt since 2004.

Rubbish response as usual….im going to take out myrubbish!! Thanks for reminding me...

And i still reckon suburban grounds are the essence if what makes our game tops!!!

Playing more out of centralised stadia leaves me cold.

At the very least keep it how we have now and play out of towners at our suburbans!

If any fan stopped supporting wests because they lost 4 games at LO then they are not really fans to begin with.

If all games were at Cambo i wouldnt be going.half at sfs and cambo a little better but i doubt i would go.

Im pretty sure a hefty chunk of our fans live in the city or not far off…i dont see any good coming out of taking games away from these supporters.

Ahh yes. The old chestnut of someone holding a different position to yourself not being a "real fan"

How delightfully original

Wait what?

Are you comparing my comment which was to someone stating that wests will loose fans if they do/don't play at a certain ground to people leaving because wests had a horrid year and players referring to " real fans"? Wow…

It's not a "difference of opinion" if you only support wests because they play at a certain ground and you are happy to no longer support the club because of geography then bye bye.

Seriously some folk on here seem to get enjoyment out if being douches.

Hate using the ''real fan'' analogy but i can't see how any passionate, die in the wool WT fan could walk away just because they stopped playing at a particular ground. Did Balmain lose any fans when they moved to Parra stadium in the 90's? Simon?

And id say the same thing to anyone who said the same thing about Cambo, which i actually have multiple times to a minority of Magpies fans who still think its 1975

Pratten Park, Lidcombe Oval, Campbelltown Stadium and Leichhardt Oval.

Magpies fans (real fans) followed them to all of the above.

If you live near Leichhardt then hop in the car and drive down the M5 or catch a train to the gate. Easy.

Would I stop supporting them? No!

Would I still get a Season Ticket? No. For the simple reason that I need to get a season ticket to guarantee a good seat at Leichhardt and I don't need to for the other grounds. I can rock up at the SFS or Campbelltown and get a decent viewing seat, more often then not shielded from all weather, at the gate.

I was young when the move to Cambo happened and I have no idea how old you are but did you know of people that stopped supporting wests because of that? I know I saw some of the people from lidcombe at CO but everyone in my family and friends just continued on. Can't say the same for the merge but I think that's very different…

Remember Balmain abandoned LO at end of 1994 as it was not up to first grade standard. Its a great ground for footy nostalgia but that comes at a cost to WT (less corporate support + cost of running games there) compared to SFS where WT are paid to play there.

It would diminish, not sure by how much.
Many people I knew thru my sons decade spent playing in Balmain DJRL were old Balmain/WTs fans that only visited LO….

Ive lost my ground before....I dont care much anymore, have little emotional attachment to either of our grounds....but personally LO goes back furthest......you cant help but lose a little passion when one of the very things that helps create that passion and love in you is taken away....the players come an go, the clubs come and go, the grounds???? well....they come and go too

If the ground is foremost in an individuals reason for following the team then good luck to them.
Others….its the colours.
Many kids, its Benji
Us old farts, its the past JV partners.

We all have our reasons, no ones reason for following the team/club/players whatever is any more valid than anyone elses.....and given the history LO holds, you can be certain it holds close to many peoples hearts so like it or not - deal with it.

Just to quantify where im at!!

I love goin for my local team and wandering down to LO to watch them play.

I guess its part of my tribal love for the area and its people!

Going for Cambelltown with a tiger on the jumper does little for me!!! As im sure if all games were played at LO!!

I would never advocate that!! But no games at LO and i wouldnt be attending!!id watch it on tv but thats it.

And just for the record i did not go to a game when we played at Parra….i watched it at home.

And the crowds were awful too so i assume i wasnt the only one.

Imo they have the mix right now re grounds....i wouldnt be messing with it!

although the latest position seems that suburban grounds will be phased out with little support for upgrade and so forth. the phase out will be over decades.
I love leichhardt for a few games a year and currently is in vogue in much the same way that shabby chic is all the rage. in a few years something else will take the fancy of channel 9

I bet it will happen quicker Goose and it will be one game at a time

And it won't just be Leichardt ,guarantee C'town will be in the same boat

15-20 years time it will be 2 games at C'town and Leichardt and the rest will be at Allianz

Hypothetical:

If the club was to get $20million to spend on upgrading their stadiums which would people prefer?

$10mil for LO and CS? More for LO? More for CS?

I'd put it all into CS and turn it into something like Hunter Stadium or Skilled Park if it meant a 6:6 split with the SFS, if not something more like 8:4, with CS taking the LO games. IMO the south west of Sydney could really take off with something like this. There's no premier stadium within cooey of Campbelltown. Parramatta and Homebush would be the closest (not including the round waste of space at Blacktown). Leichhardt is turning into a bit of a sinking ship. With the way the game is going - fewer day games and the need for modern corporate facilities, even if LO gets upgraded it'll take away from its charm. It's a catch 22\. I'd forgo LO if it meant more games at a good CS
