NINE SET TO SHOW SUNDAY GAMES LIVE IN 2015

CHANNEL Nine is set to scrap delayed broadcasts of NRL games on Sunday afternoons.

Traditionally, Sunday afternoon games have been shown on a one hour delay to provide an easy lead into Channel Nine’s news bulletin. However, Nine’s director of sport, Steve Crawley says the game’s free to air broadcaster is seriously considering showing Sunday games live in 2015\. The move would require a slight scheduling change though, with 3pm Sunday games likely to be shifted to 4pm to accommodate the live broadcast.

“I think that the Sunday free-to-air rugby league game will be 4pm live but a lot of people are going to have to work together on it,” Crawley tells Fairfax Media.

“We want everything live and I think we’re a real good chance of getting Sunday afternoon matches live at 4pm.”

“We’ll have to work out ways of getting more ads … instead of having a slab of three-minute ads, we’re going to have to work out how to put a minute ad in more often.

“We’re going to have to be smart in the way that we do it and we’ll have to work with the league and the clubs and the coaches on all of that.”

The scheduling decision ultimately lie with ARLC CEO Dave Smith and his counterpart at Nine, David Gyngell.

About bloody time….it better happen

Happy, hope not,it's about time nine stepped up into the new millinium and showed live rugby league ….ITS THE WAY TO GO...

Yahoo no more delayed crap.....

An extra live game is one thing, still not being able to watch them in HD is another that should be addressed.

I agree … Plus the way they piss around with different bullshit camera angles annoys the crap out if me !!!

And the whole commentary team needs a bloody clean out IMO .

Sounds to me like they're trying to dump the responsibility off to the NRL in saying that it's a collaborative effort in finding time for ads. When it all goes pear shaped and we're back to low-def delayed coverage then they can say it wasn't their fault.

About time!

Agree with formerguest in regards to HD. It provides a much better experience. I think it will be years before free to air channels will be broadcast live in high def though unfortunately

This is at least 2 years later than it should've been. The new TV deal should've had live sunday arvo games from the get-go. They probably could have had live sunday games in the television deal before that too

Great news if it happens, one minute add breaks are just enough time to get to the fridge or brasco. Agree with the next step being broadcast in HD heaps better picture.

Yup.

They show all games live, go to HD and axe that rambling old joke Rabs they will nearly be a proper station.

Nine haven't done anything but make the world shift to accommodate their programming. Kick off shifts, not 9\. Heaven forbid a game goes to extra time and puts the news back. Wonder if they would stay with the league or just switch.

Would have been better to stay at 3, have a post game review as a buffer. News not stuffed, and the kids get home and into bed at a reasonable hour.

Great news. Means I can look at my phone and not go crook at the kids for checking the scores. Why has it taken them so long to think of this?. New age bring it on

Unfortunately, the government's anti siphoning rules mean that free to air games cannot be shown in HD since there may well be some old codger living out beyond the black stump who refuses to upgrade his TV, and would, therefore, be unable to see the footy at all.

My solution? Do what they did with set top boxes and give HD sets to the few who can't afford them. The cost would be minimal and then we could all start living in the 21st century.
