Surely - It's a Gee Up

Is it just me, Or does anyone else think that these other "teams" showing interest in our players or making them offers is just a gee up.
Seems to me for years that other clubs seem to show "phantom Interest" in our players - And all it seems to do is make sure we are paying too much money for them.
Effectively, keeping us out of the market for the players that could make us a force.

- I remember Sheens doing an interview that said he had to pay Sironen 150k just to keep him before he'd even played Grade…

Even more recently with Suli - Paying 3-400k for an untried outside back, Just to keep the Storm and Dogs at bay...
Can anyone honestly see Bellamy paying that sort of Money for a kid that's barely paid 20's? JAC is reportedly on much less than that....

I think it's all a scam to keep us out of the market and over paying for players other clubs are only sort of interested in.... And we're silly enough to keep doing it (As we have done for an eternity)

100%… We continualy look the dumbest of clubs when it comes to players salaries.

Player Managers have been riding gunshot over this club for years, and judging by the latest fiasco with Isaac Moses, it looks like Pascoe is no different.

I honestly cannot understand that when juniors enter into our system we don't make them sign a contract saying they will give us two years at senior level at minimum contract wage to pay back the time money and effort into nurturing their talents.

Obviously it would not offset the total cost however it would provide some loyalty be paid back and some bonus to us for putting in so much at a grass roots level.

If they get to seniors level and we cannot fit them into the team then obviously their bond becomes null and void and the are free to join any team they like.

If we want them in the team at senior level, however the player wants to go elsewhere they (or the rival club) pays a fee to offset the money we have to spend over and above the minimum wage to get a similar quality player.

Watto don't you think playing hardball with deadlines etc… is a bit of an improvement?

Have to confess I don't think I'll be able to rate pascoe until I see our squad for next year. He might be a total dud.

A fluff statement in the media is good to hear, but I highly doubt Pascoe has the kahunas to tell Isaac to take his clients elsewhere to force the situation.

Bulldogs used to do this really well. Pay peanuts to players with NRL clauses based on games before it activated upgrades etc.

I think the NRL was bullied by the RLPA to stop these type of deals?

You can also go to other teams supporter forums like this to see some of it is smoke and mirrors perpetuated by cunning operators, with a dash of made up nonsense by the average joe for shits and giggles.

If anyone here also works in PR/Marketing they would know a little about how it all works.

Just like the "celebrity" whose PR agent contacts the paps to let them know where they will be lunching or parading on the beach next, the same happens in sport.

The deadline thing was to appear as if Wests Tigers won't pander to player manager demands…I note no actual deadline was set..how could they with no Coach..

As for paying overs a Club like our would have to ..to attract any players ..it's also to do with supply and demand when it comes to halves ..problem is there isn't much quality out there in the halves unless you take a punt on other rookies or go hard for a Johnson Cronk or Thurston which will cost you overs anyway...

I agree the offers should be reasonable ..if they don't like them fine.....good luck elsewhere..

We really need to be bolstering the Forwards as until that is achieved wont matter the halves are ..

Quite happy for them to test the open market

Some egos might take a real pounding and it might bring them back to earth

All of the members should do a vote on all players that we want to resign and then average it out.

Eg moses 500,000 k a year max.

Then we send the results to the Ceo and tell him the fans have created these numbers based on performance and position…

We would have a great team them 😂

Managers are like real estate agents … there's no point having an auction if there's only 1 bidder ... even if the other bidders are fake

Really? If the RLPA was against it that just means the players didn't feel they got enough out of it…. Wests Tigers have the perfect opportunity to do something because they have two lots of Jnr systems. If I was in charge of Jnr development I would have one team running as a standard team exactly how the system works now, those who are against the changes can stay there.

The other team I would have as an elite squad, working directly with the NRL facilities and coaching systems, using the NRL squads gym and physio departments having full access to everything they need. I would make sure it was the greatest program available and I would charge for it... Any up and comer that wanted to go there, could. Anyone wanting to use the facilities could.. But they would be charged upfront to ensure that it remained one of the highest training facilities in football or any sport really. Then, for those who wished to join the program under a scholoship program had to give a return of service.

If the player thought that they were getting something out of being in that program and especially if they couldn't / wouldn't of paid upfront for the program they wouldn't complain to the governing body about it being unfair. (You just have to ensure that it really was the best.)

As Aaron Woods said last night when you are trying to recruit a player and you bring them in to the back of an old grandstand at Concord you are already on the back foot.

When you are recruiting or re-signing a player they are going to weigh up all the pros and cons and unfortunately the only way we can make up for our short comings is to pay more than the competition.

The part of any smart business is to make your competitors pay overs for stuff. Happens every day. No different in the NRL. If youre stupid enough to fall for it, its your issue.

It seems to me a deadline makes good sense. If these negotiations drag on, we may well miss out on recruiting suitable replacements and if we lost all four we need to come up with a half, 5/8, origin quality fullback and origin quality prop. We would have the money but time would be the issue.

Deadlines and all that stuff sounds strong and professional, but they only work when you have equally talented players in the club, or you know you can buy players as good as the ones on the deadline( I mean players that are willing to come).
Deadlines can backfire sometimes and not get the result that they were intended to

I think it's probably true for the most part, Batboy. Our club has been such a basket case for so long, I reckon other clubs would be thinking that some of our good players might be wanting to jump ship, so why not strike now with the offers.

Maybe we should hire Toovey over Cleary. He'll demand an investigation.

Maybe he should investigate what went wrong at Manly for him and why he is coaching a second string team in the old dart.

And why would they take any notice of the members/fans over who to sign / let go and how much to pay or not pay their players? These peeps have NO say.
