Sydney Morning Herald - Wests Tigers seek new general manager

When Moss was appointed I thought the role he was hired for was basically what we are now looking for now. That is a person to manage the complete football operation. So I guess for what ever reason Moss was considered unsuitable for the role.

It will be interesting who puts their hand up, I think we need someone who has been involved in the game in recent times and no seniors like Smith or Sheens. Elliott,Daniel Anderson,Potter are names that come to mind,or what about a left fielder like Anasta.

Anasta has done nothing but bag the club since he left, Potter on the other hand ,wanted to stay even though working whilst hamstrung ,having no say in anything. He fits the part of the selection criteria which is looking for someone to work for the future of the club, not his coaching contract

I was not endorsing Anasta as a candidate, I was just suggesting a player like him might be interested in the job. Although let's face it,anyone who has a secure job now, I doubt would be interested as these jobs are not what you call secure

Mick Potter is the assistant coach at the Knights, so he has other priorities.

John Singleton, Gerry Harvey, type of person would be beneficial.

He has also been on the Match review committee since 2008 so has kept contact with the modern game…I don't see the role as such as growing the business that is the role of the CEO COO and Board...i see this as a manager of the football department from NRL to SC and NYC until that is done with an overview of recruitment and retention....it needs someone with football experience IMO...

I'd apply for the job, but Ink would have a heart attack with the sackings that would take place.

Your overqualified mate

Try again after you've had a lobotomy

Someone mentioned Buckets

Lots of people / ex players have a love for their club

Can Buckets pick out the right footballer at the right place to improve our football side ??

Hagan comes to mind , Fittler , Daniel Anderson , even Sheens

The man most resposible for auguably our greatest ever signing Gareth Ellis …so yes I would say he's a pretty good judge...

No

From there, Ellis's career was remarkably smooth sailing. Almost instant promotion at Wakefield, England caps, a lucrative move to local giant Leeds where he won two titles. So why, in the prime of his career, would Ellis risk his reputation by making the move to Australia. Especially when - before the exchange rate turned in his favour - there was more money on the table at Leeds? Why listen to the urging of his Aussie teammate Mark O'Neill,

This is a very interesting move in my opinion.

Firstly if Pascoe keeps getting other people to do jobs, what does that leave him with.
Top dollar to sit on his banana chair.

I think people are joking with some of the names bandied around as possibles - Sure it is tongue in cheek.

Anasta, Smith, Roach, O'Neill ….. really!

Potter , Anderson etc. still have coaching aspirations.

Only name I feel that is good that maybe interested is Hagen.

I think Pascoe should do the job himself, in close liason with the coaches and stop wasting money. If he can't - maybe we need a new CEO. Don't think he is that good so far to be perfectly honest.

The job should go to a person who is held in high regard in Rugby League and commands respect. Like Phil Gould at Penrith, if you get a phone call from somebody of that calibre you're gonna listen. Having someone like that could make the difference between getting a potential signing over the line or falling short.

Peter Mulholland or Andrew Gee or Daniel Anderson should be sounded out for this role

I'd go for Andrew Gee give him free rein of West Ashfield bank account and away we go!!!!!!!

agreed… with a GM Football Operations, we no longer require a COO/CEO with Footy-Smarts. This will allow the CEO to focus 100% on commercial/financial decisions in building a strong platform for the future.

Not sold on Buckets without knowing his credentials, but I'd prefer to see this role go to an Ex Coach or Recruitment Manager with vast experience of over 15-20 years

This really concerns me for a number of reasons.

The General Manager approach in the US has been around for a long time but in more reason times, particularly in the NFL, there is a greater recognition that good coaches need greater control.

The statements in this article by Pascoe reek of extreme arrogance. I hope he isn't actually like he comes across. His resume isn't that impressive and it concerns me that we have a very dominant CEO. Its either his way or the high way.

Regardless of what people think of Taylor, the structure proposed by Pascoe is going to make it very hard to recruit a top coach.

Following on from his silly Phil Moss leaving press release (who does a press release about a non-public position like Moss's), it seems to me that Pascoe is a rank amateur. I am very concerned with the direction this club is heading.
