i bought season tickets not a membership and to date i have not been able to use my 4 seqson tickets i know not the clubs fault but they should look after members better and work out how to get members into games.
Yeah I don't view them as memberships either, they are 100% season tickets. Membership to me implies more than we receive.
It's pretty smart by clubs. They eliminated football memberships so fans can't have a say on the running of a club and can't see what they are doing with the finances. Then they call the season tickets 'memberships' to make the fans feel important but if any games get cancelled they don't have to refund the money because it's actually a membership you bought, not a ticket to the game.
Very clever.
I don't think Wests Tigers ever had a football membership, that all went away when we voted to merge. Also I don't really think football club members have ever had, or at least not for decades, any meaningful capacity to affect football operations.
For example Souths are intentionally set back up to be part-owned by members, but only up to 25%. Which means Rusty and James Packer can out-vote all members on any initiative, under whatever voting rights members may or may not have (not being a member myself I cannot say).
NRL are just late on the bandwagon of what AFL has been successfully doing for a long time - transitioning fandom into subscribing members. Nothing specifically clever about it, most entertainment industries are moving to the subscription model.
To also then sarcastically criticise the club - all clubs - about what is happening under coronavirus is silly. When has an NRL match ever been cancelled prior to COVID lockdowns? It is without precedent and you make out like pre 2020 clubs have intentionally been constructing backdoors into their membership with the express purpose of letting them retain revenues if games are called off.
Games were cancelled in the super league era when super league clubs forfeited. Your naive if you don't think clubs look at protecting their incomes.
I think the criticism is around the way that have Marketed take the Pledge we are run by lawyers so they want to cover a refunds if lots of members decide that they received nothing for what they paid for this season.
Agree its unprecedented what has transpired but i would rather be given the option of stating why in simple terms why taking the pledge along with a refund policy statement that gives both options.
The Club's response is to give you a chance to Win a corporate ticket to a game if you take the pledge as per email this week to members.
There has been nothing about refund policies.
I am happy to take the pledge and make it a donation to the club but i would like to see something in return.
Make the 8 this season instead of 9th.
Here is the email.
Dear valued Member,
Wests Tigers are excited to introduce Members back to game days! We are calling upon Members to take the pledge to go into the chance of winning a corporate ticket*. For more information about the competition, please click here.
Note - Drinks and food not supplied not sure that's corporate?
To date, Wests Tigers have received an overwhelming response from our Members in regards to how they can best support the club. Thousands of Wests Tigers have made the decision to stand as one and pledge their 2020 Membership, confirming their commitment to the club to help ensure a strong Wests Tigers both now and in the future.
To go into the draw to win a corporate ticket*, Wests Tigers are calling upon Members to pledge and tell us in 25 words or less why you would love to attend our Round 6 match against the North Queensland Cowboys this weekend.
Those members already pledged can enter the draw.
My 25 Words or less.
I spent loads of $ on tickets not been able to support the club nor interact with other members that have become family.
The competition ends Thursday, June 18 at 12:00pm AEST, with all Members who have already pledged automatically included the draw.
PS - I asked the club via Member corporate services about this policy via email and never received a reply back.
