Tallis destroys Blair...

GORDEN Tallis has taken aim at Adam Blair, accusing the Wests Tigers forward of being an overpaid player who is not putting in.

In an extraordinary attack on Triple M following the Tigers' capitulation to the Sharks, Tallis blasted the Kiwi international by claiming he was being outplayed by players on half his wage.

Tallis said it was time for Blair to deliver on a promise he made to perform for the Tigers when he joined from the Melbourne Storm last season on a deal reportedly worth $600,000 a year.

"Adam Blair has won grand finals, he has played internationals and he has won a World Cup," Tallis said.

"I read an article where he was going to the Wests Tigers with him saying he was like a caged lion (at Melbourne) and that he could start playing football now.

"He sat on the left-hand edge outside Benji (during the Sharks game). He is big, he is strong, he has great footwork and an offload. He needs to get in the middle and give us something.

"He is one of the highest paid Wests Tigers players. He has asked for that money and if you are prepared to take that money, put out your hand and watch your bank account grow every week, you have to be prepared to put your body on the line."

Tallis said the big-money recruit was being outplayed by lesser lights such as Eddy Pettybourne. The former Queensland Origin star said he would have been able to dismiss the performance if it was a one-off, but he suggested it was an all too frequent display from Blair.

"If he went in there and had 15 hit-ups … like Pettybourne did, it would be OK," Tallis said. "You would know he was having a dig. Somedays you go to the office and you do your job better than others. It is the same with footy. Some days you go out there and try really hard and you don't make a break and you miss tackles.

"But he isn't putting in the effort that some of the teammates around him, on half his money, are."

Tallis continued his attack on Blair during an interview with Tigers coach Mick Potter moments after the match.

"I feel a bit sorry for you because some of your bigger names (didn't perform)," Tallis said.

"Especially Adam Blair. For a guy that has played at the highest level, he should be in there having 20 hit-ups.

"Aaron Woods is having 20 hit-ups and some of the other guys are being aggressive, but I actually feel sorry for some coaches because some players won't have a go."

Potter defended Blair.

"I think you are being a bit hard on Adam," Potter said.

Gordie is spot on…......we'll see if this actually fires up Blair, I somehow doubt it though unfortunately

Absolutely he's spot on. If Blair was cranking out 15-20 hitups per game and 30+ tackles, our forward pack would be a lot better off, with less pressure on the youngsters. Wishful thinking though.

Honestly didn't even notice Blair playing….and when has he ever proved us wrong after criticsm?

6th min mark this week watching the replay I first saw him involved or heard his name, this was a good week.

I make a habit of this now

Previous weeks has been the 24th min and the 20th minute

He is trying to play as an impact edge backrower because that is the position he was moved to. The problem is he doesn't have the chops to do it. He doesn't punch through the line. He doesn't hit holes hard. He doesn't have the leg speed or leg drive to do that job where someone like Thompson or Sue could.

Blair is a prop/lock now and he needs to go back there. It's no coincidence that earlier in the season when he was at 13 he was playing alright and actually racked up some decent stats for a change. Either punt him or play him where we'll get some use out of him. He does have decent hands and footwork and would do a job for us in the front row, where we need some bloody help. Sue and Blair should have been wearing each other's jerseys on the weekend. I guess the problem is he doesn't seem to show initiative and put his hand up like someone like Fulton does. He DOES quietly go about doing some pretty good things off the ball from time to time but he doesn't seem to enjoy the collision anymore and that used to be one of his best characteristics.

Pettybourne, Thompson, Murdoch-Masila, Sue et al are all better suited to the edge running backrow game. Blair's only chance at reviving his career is a permanent move to the front row rotation.

Well if he had have agreed or put the boot in to him it would have been a really bad look. The fact that he didn't say anything more or elaborate means he probably agrees.

Not sure what you expected Potter to say, Royce. Of course he will defend his players in the public forum - as he should. Behind closed doors is where he should be letting all concerned know exactly how he feels and what he expects. Let's hope Adam responds accordingly. (I'm not overly optimistic, however).

If he agrees do something…What happened to the "Players will be picked on form" line.
Now if Tallis was coach I bet we would be a lot more competitive. This isn't under 10's Potter.

Maybe Potter could take a leaf out of Wayne Bennett's book

When Wayne wanted to get a point across to a player who wasn't playing well ,he would get his ol mate Bob Bax to lay into the player in his column which was in Sunday Mail (Brisbane paper )

Bennett would never comment back

Bob Bax was an ex coach and very well respected in Queensland circles , usually did the trick as well

Potter and Tallis played together in 92 and 93 at the Saints ,maybe he has done a Bennett ….........

I see what you are saying Irvine, but we have had so many injuries that he is not in a position to drop anyone. He can't bring another two or three Cup players when half the first grade team have played less than 20 games. There is also the second tier cap issues.

He is stuck at the minute, but if senior players don't play for him when he needs them then I am sure he will remember it.

Lol @ "being a bit hard on him"
He's soft, he needs to step up and have a go.
Potter is a cat for defending him!

Gordie is well connected in the Souths camp, yes?
Notice he was giving Pettybourne some props…
Probably close friends.

Either way, Gordie is 100% right -

If you think of it as a business sense, compare this...

You have PERSON X - Who does a job for you for $100 a day
and PERSON Y - can do the same job for you, for $50 a day.
What are you going to do?

What are you going to do?

Depends who you are asking

Storm Management- $50
Tigers Management- Would look for another that does the same job for $200

Somewhere along the line Blair has lost confidence ,energy ,form. He hasnt got the speed or ability to be a damaging edge player so prop should be his position and why we dont play him there while we are short of props is weird. Maybe Sheens took the aggro out of him as he has done with other forwards. In any case Potter has to manage this situation and dropping Blair is not going to make it easier to move him on eventually. Same goes with Marshall, certainly Sheens changed his game for the worse,
