Tallyn Da Silva #270

So news comes out that TDS is going to test the market, his best friend who is also leaving ‘likes’ the post. Next thing that comes out is Mahoney is free to leave immediately. This is another masterclass by Gould, I have no doubt it could have been the incentive to get him over the line at dogs over Parra who offered more money.
He’s going to the market cos we’re entertaining re-signing Api. At least he has a legitimate reason. Things might be a little different if we told Api we weren’t re-signing him after 26.

What makes you so confident about the “optics”? Isn’t he going to “test the market “?
I know it means nothing to most, but based on his comments and actions. He seems like a real good kid to me, and his attitude is great.

I don't think it's the club prioritising Api over him with Api's extension, like I've said - they'd have a plan around more minutes for TDS and less for Api in the coming seasons. The club is well aware of Tallyn's talents, and I have no doubt they make that clear with him.

Of course you'd keep Api around, maybe not for too long. But from next season on the minute split should start to lean towards TDS.

TDS is nowhere near the full 80 at the moment.

Also, his Instagram post to me seemed like it was telling everyone to be patient and whatever was in the media is just talk.

If we re-sign Api, maybe from 27 onwards, you start Api on the bench. If Api doesn’t like that, I’m sure he’d have suitors.

Aren’t they moving on Mahoney to promote Bailey Howard ? Not everything comes back to the Wests Tigers

Id keep Hayward as 14 if I was them as he can play lock + the half’s but I guess we’ll see. Who’s to say he doesn’t want to be a half himself at another club either?

Api vs TDS, Api is miles in front of him at the moment and surely he can see that.
This will change as they both get older and roles get closer to reversing but for the moment TDS is nowhere near showing he has the stamina for an 80-minute player and has shown only glimpses that he could be special with his pace.
Plus does he have the smarts at dummy half that Api has yet no, this has to be learnt into his game from Api over the next couple of seasons.
If it is true that he is impatient I've had a gutful of these players who rate themselves higher than what they are, he's only 20 and a lot to learn yet his time will come.

Look, that's fair. Were talking 2027, by then Api should be ready for a coaching job or if he wants to keep keep playing on it can be for reduced minutes.

When your talking keeping DaSilva ahead of someone like Api who I think has made the finals in every team he has played for bar us.... I get rilled.

Api is such a part of our team and team spirit now. Our biggest mistakes have been min/max value instead of Club building values. Luai/Api are a huge part of that, lets build some culture here.

I love Api. One of my favourite players. However, he won’t be around forever, and we need to plan for the future. If he stays beyond 26, he should play second fiddle.

Jarryd Haywood is killing it in flegg . TDS camp would have to be paying close attention to how well Heyward has taken to Flegg .
The longer we Keep Api the more time that gives the other Aus schoolboy 9 in our system to develop .
There’s every chance come 2027 , that Haywood has developed his game to be right where TDS is now .
Only tbh , with a far more traditional path to nrl . If we sign Api to 28/29 Haywood would be 21 around then with 3 years of development at the level below .
I’d love to keep TDS , but geez that kid is proving to be something special. Like Harry Grant hype , level special . Hopefully we can blood him over the next 2-3 years between Flegg and KOE , develop his body and his game , to be well and truely ready for nrl around ‘28 maybe even ‘27.
If Api keeps up with what he’s doing , next season , there’s absolutely no reason we don’t give him a 1 year extension into 27 , and let this kid come through naturally .
Benji and Richo have a real decision to make . You could say it’s Api or TDS .
But it’s really TDS or Haywood . As I think they’re both going to be too good be a bench utility .
For me , I’m leaning towards Haywood, as I really like TDS , but I get Jacob Liddle vibes. The defence , the play style etc. which is a good footy player , but ……. Yea .

Unfortunately they need to make the decision 18 months in advance … that’s just the way the NRL works these days ..Come round 1 2027 ,TDS will be 22 with more than 50 NRL games under his belt… and Api will be 34 ..

It seems a strange decision to me that you would keep Api. who no doubt has been a great player ..but Father Time catches up with the greatest ….having said all that ..it does appear from my read on what’s unfolding , that seems to be the way they are headed …to expect TDS to continue to stay longer and be second fiddle is a bit of a pipe dream in my view ..he will be in demand ..even if from just the new clubs ..

I can only assume that they are keen on the next new guy coming through the ranks and think Api can last until he is ready to take over ..it’s another gutsy recruitment call…

TDS service has been excellent since rd 1 apart from that he is far from a finished product, but if we can keep him under the tutelage of api for 2-3 more years that would be an ideal situation

TDS is a good young man and his family are not like the Galvin's please do not draw comparisons between them. Tds is about 5 kgs to light at the moment which does not help his tackling power but this will come in time and experience. His dad could rattle the bones when required.

The biggest problem and this has been a huge problem at this club over the years is the bullshit promises made by people who have left this club and still get involved behind the scenes.

Like I said bro Haywood is coming , and he’s coming quicker than the club probably wants him too . He’s still 2 years away , if we hold him back , but that kid has it . TDS has it as well , just in different ways . It will be real interesting the choice the club makes

sure is, also Brent Reid when he reported we’ve started talks to extend api said he feels that TDS not only will test the market but he won’t even see out his contract he will leave by the end of the year. hate reid but he’s been on the money with galvingate so this is a worry

combine that with his insta story a couple of days ago and his sudden dropping to cup, the writing may be on the wall with this one and richo might already know this
What was the insta story?

I would take the bird in the hand personally …seen too many of the 18 yr old “next big things “ that dont make it ..you can also have the younger kid playing second fiddle for a couple of years like TDS has been doing …

Man he’s been on the money about Galvin because he’s on the Moses Diddy parties , offering his butthole for fishing expeditions! He and Riccio have no goss whatsoever outside whatever Moses feeds them .
He’s probably getting this goss from the Galvin camp .
Remove the Galvin cancer limit that influence on a day to day , and my guess is the narrative will shift . Every one knows when you work with a mate , who hates the boss , all his bitching is going to influence you in some way or another .
Tartak has a healthy relationship with Benji , who’s TDS manager , and I heard his dad is well respected in the corridors , so yea . I just think there’s a cancer in the club at the moment , and we need to cut that tumour out . Which I think is all but done .
Let things settle and see what many of these young players real opinions are .
