Tamou leaves Tigers call in safe hands

Ask yourselves, if he was at the club already, would re-signing him be a good decision. With the lack of leadership in the forward pack, it’s a no brainer.

I must be honest, I have never rated James Tamou at any stage in his career. When he played origin, I even shook my head thinkign what the hell are the selectors seeing.

However......

I can appreciate he has massive leadership qualities to offer, he is experienced and if he stays professional and doesn't just bludge off into the night, its probably a good signing. We have young forwards who need a mentor, and we no longer have Lawrence or Marshall as old heads.

I trust the coach and I'm man enough to say that whilst I never liked him as a player, he might be a very shrewed signing and the right $$$.

Well David Riccio said there’d be an announcement ‘within 48 hours’ so let’s see if that actually comes true for once.

Tamou is like buying a 2010 SS Commodore on Gumtree - not bad back in the day but comes with high mileage. Previous owner says they are only selling because they got a new company car.

Hopefully he makes it through the next few years without breaking down.

I'd take a 2010 SS Commodore at the right price over a Hyundai i30

And a modern Hyundai i30 would outperform a 2010 SS Commodore easily.

I wouldn't take a Commodore if you gave it to me for nothing.

Think he is more like a vintage Bentley, below a Rolls, good value for money, always worth looking at, draws others to it and keeps on going.

Hopefully we know someone with the tools to wind back the kms.

A lot of people are crying out, upset at the club and even signed a petition for a 35 year old player that cannot defend to resign but when the club gets a 31 year old LEADER on & off the field they complain..
Once Packer and Lawrence go we have the youngest forwards in the comp and they need a leader that know what it takes to win. He will want to perform well as he might even get an extra year extension down the track.. Need to remember we don't have the funds for a AFB, JWH kind of player so this is a brilliant buy - 2 years so not committed long term and not on massive money like Packers etc... This is a classic Madge signing on limited funds.
They just need to announce it already..

Tigers announcements always seem to take forever. They enjoy stressing us out I think

Absolutely agree mate, about the only times he impressed me was when he had good games against us. Rarely saw that against others though.

No I think people tip off journalists well before deals are done, because Tigers sell newspapers, when things aren't actually finalised at the club yet.

E.g. Tamou, you may have hangers-on saying "Tamou to Tigers done", and Tamou may have told people face-to-face that this is what he is likely to do, but he may not have actually signed yet. He was interviewed just last weekend and didn't let anything slip. And so people can say "it's a done deal" because they think Tamou will follow through, but for Tigers specifically, it's not done until he signs on the dotted line. So Tigers are the last party able to publicly say "yes it's done" after all the speculation has occurred.

We saw the same thing with Latrell, people with some inside information think the deal is close enough to done, they jump the gun and announce it in hope of being proven correct shortly, but technically the deal isn't executed yet and things can change rapidly.

Completely agree, also as others have said, he has been relatively unaffected by injuries, which usually suggests he understands how to train and take care of himself. I think this is a shrewd buy, not to mention he is the captain of the likely minor premiers, it's a massive get.

You’re right on every count but Tigers are still pretty slow with their announcements ?
they can’t announce anything until every piece of paperwork is done though which is fair enough.

I think it is just as possible that either Tamou or Penrith have asked that th eannouncement is delayed until a time that suits (he is captain of a team battling for Minor premiership). Despite my hatred for Cleary, I can respect Tamous and the clubs wishes if this is it.

Maybe but in his interview it seemed like he just wanted it done now so there was no speculation before finals. Maybe he’ll sign and tell his team mates but they won’t announce everything until after the seasons done
