Why is that comparison ridicolus?

Packer had a breakout year in 2016, dropped off in 2017 and quickly declined when he came to us. Tamou's current stats look very similar and that's why he's being squeezed out at Penrith

Packer has never been the prop that Tamou is even when he had a decent year. He was always mediocre at best.

He was damn good his 1st season after prison ...amazing what playing for your career can do hey .....

Nine News tonight had Tamou signed to the Tigers for 2 years.

Congratulations/best wishes to James Tamou on new contract with Tigers. He’s given great service to Panthers on & off the field. Great leader. Let’s hope he delivers them a Premiership success before he goes. Tigers have secured a great man. Really wish James & his family well.

You missed my point. Concentrate on the core and build our juniors.

Sounds like you're keen to see Packer 2.0

Broncs are an example of why you need old heads around. They've got a squad stacked with junior talent that haven't lived up to expectations.

The dollars quoted represent value.

As average as tamou is, you're spot on. Packer's best days were as a big fattie off the bench for 10-15 min spells. Never been more than a decent plodder capable of a few inconsistent bursts of aggressive play.

I’m actually impressed if we got Tamou for a 2yr deal on the amount reported. Very smart and astute pickup.

He is better than anything we have upfront and considering the market he is the best available as well.

Well done Tigers now for another 2 good pickups.

Good signing. Get used to it naysayers, he is on board and as a few have already suggested, every team needs an old head, especially one that is still performing and has Australian and Origin experience.

The $$ make all the difference with this signing if rumours are correct. Tamou's signing at 350 a year is completely different to Packer, Mbye and JR as the over inflated price and for such long timeframes is the big kick in the plums. I'm choosing to look at this in a positive way and let's hope he provides that leadership we need.

While people will be looking at his game stats as a measure of success for him, what Tamou brings to us in intangible attributes is enormous...leadership, experience, professionalism etc will be worth far more in the long run. It's a good statement of intent by our club.

I'd actually like to see James Tamou, Brandon Smith , Russell Packer, Luciano Leilua, Zane Musgrove, Sam McIntyre,
with all playing at their peak on the field at the same time,
and on the bench Stefano Utoikamanu and Luke Garner, try to intimidate that pack! Back to earth now ... The signing of Tamou has Madge's fingerprints all over it, your getting a player who won't rest on reputation alone.

Terrible signing but par for the course. Ivan Cleary is no fool and is probably having a chuckle.

Cleary ... the gift that keeps on giving 🤬

If this is a done deal we've just picked up Cleary's scraps again. We need to concentrate on our core and up and coming youth. We don't need old heads that don't understand our club and are just looking for a final paycheck.

I really hope this isn't a done deal, if so it's poor recruiting by WT's and Madge

We picked up a young upcoming Blore from Panthers. Was that a poor deal?

Don't know why we would want a guy who averages 20 games a season won a Premiership with Origin experience doesn't get dominated in tackles and can dominate in tackling, a leader not a follower and rates a 10 out of 5 in wrongness of head..

Cause he’s a ‘plodder’ apparently. Unless you play like papali you’re a plodder lol

I have been pretty vocal here with my concerns and reticence about buying Tamou. Now it seems the signing is imminent and if at the $$$ reported, I am coming around. Big human, good human (based on first hand knowledge by people I know and trust).

Happy to have him aboard and prepared to be open minded.

I've come around too. Initially I thought we'd be signing him for several years on big money, but 2 years at $350k/year is a good deal for us.

In his prime yes, but he’ll be 32 when he gets here, doesn’t really want to be here, only leaving Penrith because he has to. Here for all the wrong reasons. He’ll probably put in for the first half dozen performances and then he’ll be on cruise control looking out for his body come retirement.

It appears he is the perfect leader for our young forwards mate, I hope he is the type of leader that develops other leaders and our young guys pick up that trait.
