Does anyone know if he is carrying injuries or something else is going on. I just find it hard to get my head around the fact that he was brought here to lead our young side, but spends the least amount of time on the field than any of our players. Not opposed to the bloke, actually I'm a fan, I just don't know how he is supposed to lead from the bench.

Pretty sure someone put a statistic up showing he’s playing about the same minutes for us as he did at the panthers. He managed to lead that team to a grand final.

I have just watched Tamou on the news with a cringe worthy interview about how wonderful Maguire is and how the players hang off every word he says .. But there’s more Luke Brooks can not be bothered even going there pathetic !

Tamou defends Maguire as Tigers coach

Wests Tigers captain James Tamou has defended Michael Maguire by declaring he and the rest of the playing group want the under-fire coach back next season.

The pressure on Maguire has reached fever pitch, and the odds of the former Rabbitohs premiership coach getting sacked are shortening by the day after the Tigers finished this season 13th on the NRL ladder with just eight wins.

While plenty of criticism has been directed at the club about its roster moves made before Maguire joined the Tigers back in 2019, it remains to be seen what will happen to the coach as the Tigers undertake their much-anticipated season review.

Despite the reports, Tamou claims that Maguire "100 per cent" has the support of the playing group.

"I haven't seen anything like it. Every word he says, everyone still hangs on the balance," Tamou told Nine News.

"I was talking to the players before we left - we all said the same thing about Madge.

"I haven't had too much to do with the board, but they know where we are at.

"I don't think it is [time to change coaches]. I don't think so at all."

Since joining the Tigers in 2019, Maguire has notched 26 wins and 42 losses, making for a 38 per cent win percentage. To make the situation more desperate, the Tigers haven't played finals football since 2011.

Tamou said it was vital the club sticks together through this rough time.

"It will be tough," he said when asked about the potential of losing Maguire.

"It will be like losing a friend. I don't see the sense.

"You need these things, it takes time. You need the cohesion... Madge has laid a foundation.

"I don't want another season like this season and I know no-one else in that club does.

"It hurts, we're all hurting. I've messaged some boys telling them to come back in pretty good shape because we're hitting the ground running."

Asked whether under-fire playmaker Luke Brooks should be part of the club going forward, Tahmou replied: "Absolutely, I trust Brooksie."

Josh Reynolds (Getty)
Earlier today, former Wests Tigers star Josh Reynolds suggested Maguire has struggled to form a game plan that suits his side's strengths.

"I don't think sometimes the way he wants to play suits the Tigers team," Reynolds said.

"I had this conversation with one of the boys over here today about Madge when he was with the Wigan side.

"He said, when you had (Sam) Tomkins out the back of the play, that the Tigers are playing - he was unstoppable when they won the competition [in 2010]. It obviously suited that Wigan side, but I don't think it suits the Tigers."

James T seems like a good man but there is definitely a disconnect somewhere even if he is remaining on the fence.

how about you play like you want him.

the issue with this club since day 1 has been all talk, no substance.

That article isn’t quite as bad as Benji walking into his kitchen and crying when he found out Heigno and Beau Ryan were moving down the road, but it’s up there. “Losing a friend”, what, is he dying? You can still be friends. In today’s day and age, it’s easier than ever.

Look at the squad most would be pro madge wouldn't be hard to get rid of the bad eggs if you wanted to.

Medical retirement is all I wanna see from tamou tbh, he’s been nothing short of a waste of money IMO! He came to the club for leadership and yet stef had to be in soo to get that leadership! Let’s not forget tamou has been there and done it if he truly was the leader we needed/want stef would have been firing from round 1!! (I do believe stef was playing decent footy in round 1 just not as good as after soo) I use stef as an example

This line struck me...
"**I haven’t had too much to do with the board**, but they know where we are at".
I thought the board had spoken with the players leadership group?
Not sure if anyone replaced Nofo after he got punted but that would only leave Tamou, Brooks, Doueihi and Twal.

on the field his form imo hasn't been the best but i think his leadership will help stef; blore etc.

I hope your right but I didn’t see any form of leadership from him through the documentary and it’s something I don’t think would have been edited out

tbh i agree with you, my message was more of logical thought considering JT has played a lot of rep footy. Stef and the younger forwards may just be doing fine. I think our issue is in the backs.

I’m sceptical of a player’s motives when their numbers go through the roof in a contract year, particularly if they are 28 plus. Do we know anyone else apart from Tamou and Nofa? BJ, is at least honest about his inability if he’s now considering a move to prop.

Seems weird to me that he says "It **will** be tough" and "It **will** be like losing a friend" and not "it *would* be tough".

HIs language implies it will happen.

Tamou seconded by Pascoe and Hartigan to assist with the revue due to his leadership qualities and as a result knows the outcome. Sorry Madge, one of us had to go.
