Why do you love Leichhardt Oval?

It's just fantastic to watch footy on a hill. You can stand, move, walk around, get your spot. There is something a bit anti-capitalist about it too - it makes less financial sense but the atmosphere it generates and the experience for fans has intangible value for making a club a 'club".

Campbelltown would be such a better place if they had replaced the archaic Alf dugid stand with an actual covered grandstand in 1999 and still left the hill there for the punters. What you have now is two inadequate stands around the ground so it's too much of nothing either side. Campbelltown can be a good place to watch footy tho. The game in 2005 when we beat the Cowboys to make the finals for the first time had 20k people there and it was absolutely jumping.

I love it because 55% of the time, we win there. If we lose, I go home - not too far. If we win, I got to the city - again, not too far.

I only go home 45% of the time.

It's a generational thing for me. My dad and mum took me there as a kid and then as adultd we went together. Now my children are adults and they have the same connection through going there as kids. We all stand on the hill with all its discomforts and couldn't feel more at home if we tried.
Makes it easier with a 55% record surely?

There's a reason Leichhardt Oval is called the 'Eighth Wonder of the World'!

I've watched games at every stadium across Australia and you just can't beat the atmosphere or the fans on the hill at Leichhardt.

...and if you're feeling peckish after the game, nothing's better than Brothers Kebabs in Annandale.

Ive never been there but always wanted to go. From a television perspective, the atmosphere and electricity in the crowd looks amazing, better than any other NRL ground. The only one that comes close is the old? dragons ground though I havent seen a game played there for some time.

There’s just something special about LO I can’t describe it. Growing up in a small town 4 hours away from Sydney depending on traffic I didn’t get to go to a game until I moved to Sydney. First time I went to LO was against the Sharks in 2019 to determine if we would play finals. Of course we all know the result of that game, but even though we lost just being at the ground was incredible. Really has that suburban feeling which I just fell in love with. You can’t get that at the big stadiums even though they might look more visually appealing. My dad and my pop (R.I.P) were both originally Balmain fans but hadn’t been to LO in years. Ever since 2022 I’ve tried to make every game played at LO and I’ve loved going there ever since even with the flaws of parking and not a lot of public transport. Definately the greatest ground to watch a game of footy.

Love the ground because of the Walk to the ground, the closeness to the players and many memories like Laurie, Wayne Pearce Last game, Garry Jack and Benny. All great times But cannot go as often now because of accommodation costs. In my day I used to sleep in the back of a tarped Ute behind the Leagues Club after meeting all the Legends on the piss with them

the old saying says "you can't judge a book by its cover" and that's certainly true with Laurie Nichols.
Some would say he had a rough exterior, but jees, he was a really nice bloke the one time I had the pleasure of saying g'day to him.
Not really sure tbh. There is that story that Ben Elias and a few other's have told where he threw a cat out of a moving train....seems like a w@nker if true.

I met Nichols a few times and i would doubt very much he would do that,Elias on the other hand i would describe as untrustworthy in the extreme and that was before the Balmain Leagues debacle.
