Taqele Naiyaravaro to the backrow?

I'll be honest guys, I haven't seen this guy play. But from all reports he is a monster with a heap of pace, not to mention he has scored 23 tries this season.

Knowing the current depth of our outside backs and lack of hard running backrowers, is there a chance this guy could move positions and play in the backrow similar to T Rex?

He played some backrow last year for Balmain in State Cup, and while he's got the build to be damaging there, I think he still better off on the wing where he can get in 1 on 1 situations more often and steamroll his opponent. So for now I think wing is his best spot, he's just got to work on things like his workrate, and defensive positioning, things which will come with experience.

I saw him play for BRET a few times last year in the backrow and he was just as damaging.
He wasn't scoring as many tries but he often broke the line which would lead to a try.
But I think he would be more beneficial on the wing

Given the importance of a good start to sets after a kick I think he is best on the wing.

Imagine with the attention he attracts just by his presence the space it would create for Nofo or Simona inside him

Yep, as others have said wing is the best spot for him. Reminds me of Jonah Lomu from union, probably a touch slower though.

Also, good point from smeg about the start off a kick.

Imagine he actually ran hard

some players realise how damaging they can be some do not..
look at how fifita has come along. he wasnt this damaging for us.

is his defense good enough?
does he go looking for the ball?
can he run good lines?
does he have an offload?

sorry to jump at you OP but there is more to being a backrower than just being big and running hard

then what is the point of your post.
all he did was ask a question, and you come up with 4 questions when he has said he hasn't seen him play.

I honestly think he should be in the backrow….

11\. Sironen
12\. Naiyavaro
13\. Sue

Is what I want!

John Grant version 2.0

Nah! He has something.

Said it mid last year that he is raw and will take 2 - 3 seasons to reach potential. He is constantly progressing in the 1% areas of his game

How was Grant…any good and overlooked? Or was he just crap?

He could have become either a couple of years ago, he started off as a prop if im not mistaken. But for someone who's only come into league (and probably rugby) at 20 or so you really don't wanna be chopping and changing positions. It's a lot harder for him to learn a position than someone who's grown up playing the game. So, we've invested a year or two into him playing wing, let's keep at it. Else the coaches will probably have to teach him second row almost from scratch. And he mightn't be as good there anyway

I've only seen him play a couple of games on the wing, but he seemed to lack the work ethic of a good backrower.

Started off as a winger when he joined the club with Koroibete. While Koro was held back for a bit in order to bulk up, Mr T mainly played for Wests, with a handful of NYC games. Always a handful to bring down, defensively is where he has had to work very hard.

This bloke is worth persisting with IMO. He's nothing like John Grant and knows he needs to work on a few things if he's going to be in with a shot at playing FG. Smeg summed it up well though, he's working on the little things and like Koroibete, is still learning about the game. I reckon he'll get his chance next year in the event of injuries.

I appreciate these are all good qualities necessary to making a good backrower. But as I said in the post, I haven't seen him play, and I was only referring to reports I read about him. That's why I asked the question…and also to start a discussion.

So, I obviously don't know the answers to your questions. Do you? I would love to know, because if he does, he might actually be worth moving.

Ps I suggest reading a post and responding in a friendly manner, we are all on the same team don't forget. Or do you wear Spider-Man undies?

They are definitely traits you need to be a quality backrower. But as I said, I haven't seen him play. All I am basing this on is the reports I have read that suggest he is fast and hard running.

You could be more constructive and let me know the answer to your questions, rather than critisising the discussion I started. Let's not forget we are all support the same team…

Ps. Do you wear Spider-Man undies?
