Targets for 2017

There are lots of footballers coming onto the open market in the next two years and that includes most of our own roster. Players have been hanging off signing new deals hoping to cash in on the hike in the salary cap. It is going to be bedlam in the market place and if you think a lot of horse trading went on this year, over the next 12 months the intensity will double and as we have seen over the past month or so a contract means nothing these days, if a team wants a player and they are willing to deal,they can get there man

If clubs are going to struggle with TPA's Supercoach, wouldn't logic dictate that if anything that will even the playing field?

Although we are on the improve with TPA's the rich will always find away

The rich get richer , the poor don't get the picture , the bombs never hit you when your down so low

I don't think we need to be so down and out about this now - very astute move from Marina to move Harry T out of the club so he can assist with TPAs.

I don't know if you guys realize this, but he is the most wealthy benefactor in the **entire league**. James Packer matches him at 4.5bil net worth, **<big>but he's co-owner now</big>** so no TPAs directly (but can get his mates to do so).

As long as we fix the Tigers issue to cover the cap and solidify the plan for a new training home so players will want to come here, we are going to be a lot stronger in the coming years.

Sorry Ink, might have been a bit confusing. Co-owner of Souths. So I believe the rules prohibit him from providing any direct TPAs from Crown etc. because of the direct relationship. But happy to be corrected.

Considering Meriton only stopped sponsoring this year, to move all our key guys onto TPAs with Harry this year would have been a sizable managerial effort.

But I'm making some pretty large assumptions off

- Marinas statement "to help the club out in other ways" when Meriton shifted off sponsorship
- TT's tidbits of info in December suggesting he was now covering TPAs for our top few players
- The fact harry was in the press with the RF saga, suggesting he mediate - indicating that he still wants to help the club however he can.

Yeah, pretty thin selection..

Josh Jackson, Shaun Lane, Josh Mansour, Cordner, Lowe & Klemmer are the standouts there for me.

I can't wait to see what we can do. Every yr we sit and pray that this could be the yr we finally have a go in the open market, it seems like the yr is finally here. We need an elite second rower. Elijah Taylor is alright and i'd take him, but we need to aim higher and make our way down to players of his calibre if need be. Hopefully we can do what Parramatta have done this yr and pick up 3 or 4 elite players. Players that will pick themselves, not guys who have to earn their spots.

Having had a look at off contract players the only really elite back rower that i noticed was Cordner.

Cordner would be huge dollars. The Roosters want him as future captain and the Knights are also very interested. I just don't see him being value for money.

Why I like someone like Elijah Taylor as a target for recruitment is he does a job and he does it really well. He tackles all day. Not many players can make 77 tackles in a game. It may not be glamorous and you're not going to bring supporters in by trumpeting the signing of Elijah Taylor, but you might just win a few more games.

Defence has been a real weakness since we lost Gibbs, Fulton and Eliis and others. I think we need to make it a priority in recruitment.

I think Mansour would be a good target too. Penrith have a pretty stacked backline with the Jennings boys and Blake behind Whare, Hiku, DWZ and Mansour. They fought off the Raiders last time Mansour was on the market but I doubt they'd be as aggressive in trying to retain him this time around given their depth. Teddy, Nofo and Mansour would be a pretty imposing back 3 on kick returns, they're all tackle breaking machines.

Lowe is a quality prospect but I've got a feeling the Cowboys will be parting ways with James Tamou, and if they do they'll have money to compete with any offer we make. Plus he gets to play with JT and win premierships at the Cowboys. Plus he's a QLD'er.

Lane, Jackson and Klemmer the Dogs will fight hard to keep, and they'll have the money freed up from Tony Williams for upgrades. On the other hand they're going to have to seriously upgrade Mbye so if we went in with big offers on all three we might be able to snare one (or at least give the Dogs some salary cap pain even if we fail). I think a few clubs would enjoy putting the squeeze on the Bulldogs which is why they're working so hard to sign their key off-contract players up so early in the season.

It's all very exciting to think of all the high quality players the Tigers should sign.

I don't think the squad itself is THAT bad.

The success of this team won't be as a result of high profile signings. It'll be the retention & development of Tedesco, Moses, Brooks & Cherrington. You get those guys under contract, then focus on the forwards that have to stay- Woods & Sue for example, and build out from there.

It's easy to paint the whole club as 'hopeless' due to results.

But you can count on your hand the amount of teams that 'buy' premierships these days. It's all built through the quality of the juniors, their retention, and a couple of well thought out tinkering signings.

Of the listed players I've seen in here, the only one I see & think "oh, yeah- he'd be a long term upgrade on what we have" is Mansour because we don't have that big winger that can get quality hit ups in our own territory. If a really good center becomes available- maybe. But I think they are less important than wingers now.

And I, personally, think the forward pack is coming together nicely.

As Chadman G said our roster is not as bad as people would leave you to believe. Take the Cowboys,their title took about five years of building to get to .Okay there was the odd signing,but it was more about players becoming harden pros.

We keep hearing people talk about narrowing the gap between good games and bad games,and that comes with experience and we are slowly getting there. The day will come when Brooks throws one forward pass a season and Moses only rolls one ball a month over the dead ball line with his short kicking game, these things come with experience and maturity and I think 2016 we are going to get excited about the years to come
