Taupau - 7th Tackle

i know hes a kiwi but hasnt taupau pretty much lived his whole life in sydney? he has a young family, it takes a lot to get someone to get up and move like that, particuarly when he would walk into any sydney clubs 13.

he strikes me as a guy who wants success so i doubt he would go to the titans. if he was to leave it would be to souths/dogs/roosters imo

Taupau to the Titans makes no sense whatsoever.

We will likely lose him however, my opinion is he ends up with the Warriors or back at the Dogs.
Can't see a gun like him at the Titans unless they are that desperate to pay $1m for a prop. The Titans apart from the NRL are in more strife than the Tigers.

The Titans need a new face of the club

It has been the talk up in Qld for I'd say at least 6-8 weeks

I suppose its in the NRL's interest to get him there. Given they run both clubs who knows.
We should however, have the coin to resign Taupau at the end of next year. They may be applying pressure with an immediate upgrade to salary next year which, we can't afford.

^why can't we afford to upgrade him though? Have you seen the off contract list for 2015 and 2016? It's 31 players out of the top 44

He needs to maintain his intensity for longer periods if he wants the big dollars, not drifting in and out of games like he does currently.

You don't let damaging athletes like Marty walk. He brings a unique aggression, power that is unrivalled.
He also is a great marketing tool. IF we can't retain this bloke we are officially braindead.

Martin Tapau is a marquee player. I would imagine that JT would be discussing a priority players 'to keep' list with Moss. I don't know the machinations of balancing the cap but my thoughts are that funding Tapau's re-signature would have been a priority consideration. For all we know it has already been factored in. It may be that the decks are being cleared to make room not for new signatures but to keep priority performers here.

I honestly believe big Marty has been struggling for most of the year, The transition between starting the game and the extra minutes we need from him at lock - he's taken time to adjust to.
Next year with limited interchange, 80min Backrowers will be like gold, At the moment we have 1, Maybe 2 - And Marty isn't one of them.
That said, I am a massive Marty fan - And I think next year will be his best with us…
If he doesn't step it up again next year, And he moves on, He'll go back to the Bench for Prop rotation.
Myself, I think our best option for Marty is back rower, Where most of his damaging is done. I think he's wasted in the middle. He has the speed, strength and footwork to be a smashing backrower.
I also think Jesse has been exceptional at Lock....

Time for some decisions JT

I think the main thing we need is to start being a contender next year. A player always will prefer to be at a winning club and could save us a bit of coin in the resigning.

I hope that Tigers management have now also started discussions given we've cleared a bunch of cap space.

I agree, I think he's fallen off a bit recently. And being challenged to get more minutes, he's not there yet.

Marty is great for the highlights reel, but oppositions have worked out getting in his face to reduce the fend and wind-up.

I still think he should be used out wider, he should be more involved in running hard lines because he is so hard to stop 1:1\. In the Rabbits game he terrorised the corridor that Reynolds was defending, but we've moved him in tighter since. Put Sue in tight and Marty/Sirro on either edge.

Play Lodge for God's sake, you get another big unit in the middle.

If Marty wants to go to that grave yard go right ahead…as a few have mentioned I do not believe he is a marquee signing just yet . I do not rate him as an overall great footy player he is strong and determined no doubt but has not got a huge motor and with the interchange starting to drop this is a huge prerequisite for a forward to have ..I would not like seeing him leave as he seems a great personality for the club but to pay huge overs for him is ridiculous. If the Titians want a new face for there club that is a lot of pressure on a player!

He's a damaging prop that can run wide at times that's where he was damaging for NZ.
Don't forget what he did to the Kangaroos this year, that said Lock these days is similar.
He looks demotivated, but that will happen when an 20 year old halfback is on 4 x your salary.

For all those that think he is not there yet, who else are we going to attract. The best we have done in recent years was a washed up lote tuqiri.

Marty has been going pretty good in a side that has been playing busted for over 12 months, now things are starting to look a little brighter it would be a shame to see him go, but as good as he is we just got to get the right balance with our roster and we can not afford to be paying anyone overs. Its all about getting the best 25 contracted players into our salary cap

100% Jirskyr ann Batboy - I too think he's dropped off in consistency since the team has been on the long run of losses. His involvement and his special moments have been less and less. Perhaps the grind of losing each week has worn him down. I have thought during the season that he was better value coming off the bench when things have softened up a bit (not that he can't handle starting - just that he is more damaging at that stage in the game), As for running wider, it gives him the space to wind up and time his fend and stops the defence from moving up on him fast to shut him down. One on one he is mighty tough to stop.
Lodge is obviously out of favour - Santi, Buchanan etc are getting a run before him. Maybe they want him to do more yards in the NYC this season, or perhaps lost patience with his off field BS??

That's the thing, he wants to start but he's a proven performer off the bench. Those Kiwi games the match intensity had dropped a little after the opening exchanges, then they let him rip. Also he was supported by a representative pack, it's easier to take some monster runs when JWH and Bromwich did the early softening, Mannering and Proctor have been keeping things tight.

So if big Marty were to take his Partner to the ballet on a Wednesday night, it's safe to say he will be signing up with ballet on Thursday.

I'm sure it reported that he was set to resign with us after negotiating a new deal/upgrade? Just because he went to the back to belmore game doesn't mean anything lol, he is mates with the players there. I think he loves the Tigers and he's exploded that quickly he has basically already become the new face of the club, I think he will stay.

I'm with you Marzie. Marty is a keeper. He's not going anywhere …yet.
I will be heartbroken if he does leave. Geo and i love him! :bawling
