Taylan May is a no brainer covers wing and centre. Makasini is earmarked for next year.
Adam Doueihi will get a new contract as he covers the entire backline and halves.

Josh Feledy, Justin Matamua, Brent Naden, Charlie Staines, Brandon Tumeth off contract. I can’t see any of them being retained.

Naden has so much talent; mostly wasted it to date. I would give him another short contract if he is performing and shown the brain explosions are behind him. Good depth.

He played well in reserves last year. Didn't nope around.

Just needs his defence and discipline sorted. When younger he would drop the ball at least twice and give away two penalties a game. Talent or not you can't have a player bringing the team down like that.

We do need centre depth.

Sounds fantastic in theory. However I think Bird looks smallish on the field compared to the opposition players; And he is 6kg heavier than Latu and battle hardened. Twal 14kg heavier.
Nice dream guys, but after getting hammered defending I think his attack would just evaporate.
Needs to be a 5/8 or centre IMO.

Agreed..but not sure if the brain explosions will ever disappear
Can play wing too...and much more threatening than Felodt/Staines and co...to both us and the opposition!

If we are entertaining Galvin on 1m Latu has to be released in the offseason. He’s a starter in the NRL and we can’t have a backup on 500k. Simple cap management.

True, but to obtain medical retirement it must be defined as a new injury, not a pre existing one. So it must have been something that happened AFTER he joined us( or at least that’s what we’ve been able to prove). Whatever it was he was a risky signing so let’s hope this is another key learning about recruitment.
Bellamy knew he was a risk which is why 1) he was dropped and 2) he was cut by the Storm.

Beggars cannot be choosers. The point is to continue to sign good eggs and head increasingly in the right direction. I don't really believe in the "Roy Asotasi" type signing that magically, with narrow hindsight, changes everything.

That is exactly why I rant against Depth in the backs and halves.

We have 4x halfbacks, they are going to go looking for the 800k salary. Particularly Latu who could earn it.
Flip it, maybe he is ok here on 500k? (can't remember the amount, but I think his wage was high). being an understudy for awhile.

Still soon he is going to start looking. Samuela Fainu is a decent 2RF. not a gun, but does the job.

We kinda need the Fainu's and are a better team with them.
All we can offer Latu is that bench spot and IMHO it's a pretty good spot.
Craig Wing, Ben Barba, etc really came on with impact and owned it. Hope he can be happy with that.

TLDR: to keep Galvin (1m) and Luai (1.2M) we can't go having another two halves on 500k+. Club is making the right move in punting Sullivan.

Don't you think though there's still a very good chance that Galvin ends up in the backrow or lock if he puts on weight?

It's still a good deal for us to have a very promising halfback option in Latu Fainu, where he can feasibly also play hooker or lock because he's stocky and a decent defender, if he starts to train for it.

And in the event Galvin simply becomes too heavy as he ages (he is 19 and 6'4"), his ball-playing ability and his running game I think transition very well to the backrow. And if not, he's still one of the top junior halves talents in the game.

Or to put it another way - there is a general consensus of lack of halves depth across the entire code yet Tigers have one of the best established halves and two of the best junior halves locked up, plus Bud Sullivan. In fact last year we had 3 of the best junior halves going around.

No doubts on his abilities as a footballer; enormous doubts on his qualities as a human and reliability to the club off-field.

That being said if he can turn it around anywhere you'd expect he'd have his best shot playing with his brother and under a new-wave lifestyle-minded coach like Benji.
