Taylor Assistant Coach for next year?

Heard on MMM this morning a rumour from Mark Geyer that Jason Taylor will take over from Roycey as Assistant Coach next year. Have had a look and can't see any other mention of this on the forum, so I have no idea how correct this is.

Sheens and the Wests Tigers want to continue the NFL style system of an overall coach (Sheens) and various sub-coaches (Royce, Folkes, etc) so this wouldn't surprise me.
Considering that coaches don't count in the cap, it can only be a good thing

I heard this as well on the rumor mill & i bet it becomes a truemor .

Does this mean Taylor will take over in 2012?? personally i hope not

Maybe he could be a runner and line up the goal kicks for Benji

Hey, if a runner can stand behind the play and direct the attack, why can't he stand behind the goal kicker and make sure the aim is right!

This would be a great piece of recruitment. I still cannot believe Souths sacked him, the only coach to take them to the semis since 1989 and they sack him. Idiots.

Taylor is Western Suburbs at heart and he would work well with his fellow St. Gregory's old boy.

I wouldnt think this is step in the right direction. We seem to have a strong bond/culture at the club and judging by stories I have heard from the Souths camp, Taylor always started rumours, had his secret squirrel clubs and was constantly rude when communicating to players… Basically he has no people skills!!!

At the end of the day, he started his career through Campbelltown, so it is a good thing the club is looking at grass roots, but I'm too sure if it breeds Premierships??!!

Lets wait and see... There is better options in the marketplace...

Personal bias and opinion aside for a moment, Taylor has good knowledge of the game and has been Coached by some of the greatest Rugby League Brains. Mulholland, Ryan, Louis, Smith to name. His tenure at Parramatta and Souths may have been short lived, but hopefully he can turn this into a positive, learning and becoming a much more mature and level headed coach from the experience. Coaches like Taylor in the form of Brown and Fittler, all have probably been a little guilty of rushing into First Grade Coaching too soon. Sometimes having some time away from the game can benefit the individual.

Personally though, I wouldn't want him in any Coaching capacity at Wests. His long history of undermining players and his superiors is well documented. He caused player revolts, rifts and drama's at Western Suburbs along with Coach Ryan, and then backed that up at North Sydney with the playing group and Peter Louis. He sooked and whinged at the Northern Eagles because Peter Sharp dropped him in favour of a young Matt Orford and was waiting anxiously for Brian Smith to fall on his Sword at Parramatta. Fitzgerald opted against signing Taylor at the First Grade Coach knowing that he wasn't the kind of individual or figurehead he wanted representing the club in the NRL. He capitalised on the success of the Private Ownership when Souths punted Shaun McCrae and went out and bought some big names. Taylor had immediate success although failed to deliever or capitalise upon the efforts on his strong finishes in 2006 and 2007 with Parramatta and Souths respectively.

In my opinion, Wests would be better off promoting Folkes, Jones or Balmain Ryde's Head Coach Paul Fletcher ahead of one Jason Taylor. Wasn't Kevin Walters looking to comeback home from France where he has been Coaching Le Catalan? He'd be a more viable option than Taylor even.

I would keep away from both , R Stewart and Taylor. They havent displayed much example of an outstanding coach.
The only reason R Stewart looks a bit better is because the wins the Australian team got for him while he was the coach. It wasnt great coaching , it was great players winning for themselves.See what happened to sharks… And some speculation he was going to be the tigers coach , i would shut the door before it opens for these two.I rather beg Big Mal to come coach us instead of these clowns.

I would rather R Stewart as assistant

I'm not sure he would be willing to give up his singing career to be our assistant coach!

Taylor as kicking mentor maybe but no to either he or Stewart in any other role.

Ummm…Have you seen Benji kick.....

JT is doing a bang up job already...

No thanks to bringing in Stuart, he had a great Roosters side gifted to him by Muzza and Gus so much so that anyone could have coached them to a premiership that year. He blew the next two years with practically the same side. I'll pay that he got Cronulla to equal first in 2008, but after some absolute clangers in recruitment like letting Kimmorley and De Gois go to hire Corey Hughes, Tim Smith and Reni Maitua showed he struggles to see and nuture talent.

I can see Farah & Lawrence being let go for Nick Kouparitsas and Ashley Graham…

Taylor gets off to a good start, but fails to maintain the momentum, and seems to often get offside with the playing group.

Big Mal doesnt do any of the coaching for the Qld Origin team. He simulates that 'manager' role like Rod Macqueen did with the Wallabies. Henry coached up to 09 and Mick Hagan did this year…

With that, Michael Hagan would be a good assistant. His struggles at Newcastle and Parramatta was with both boards...

Thoughts on Michael???
