Te Maire Martin ripped the Knights apart in Round 10 ‪#‎HoldenCup‬ action - leading the Wests Tigers to a 52-16 mauling in Newcastle.

Martin scored a hat-trick, had a leading hand in 4 more tries, ran 12 times for 223 metres, had 2 line break assists, a line break, 2 tackle busts, made 12 tackles and kicked 9 times for 229 metres.

Has to be a priority retention.

Can't see him staying if the message is clear that he won't get a chance whilst Brooks/Moses are here.
I also think he wouldn't be keen on playing anywhere but the halves.

If he gets the chance to take a starting halves position at another club he should grab it with both hands.

I suppose the question we have to ask is this

"Would Jason Taylor do anything different if TeMaire was playing 6 than he does with Moses "

When you answer that question you'll probably re think this thread

I think that we need to let both Moses and Martin fight it out during the pre season to see who is the best call

I'm still not convinced either way for the future

I know the club rates him. Problem is the age difference between he and Moses is so close it makes it hard to keep him if Mitch is in front. Martin's biggest opportunity to crack FG is if Moses cops a serious injury or his form drops away so much that Taylor has no choice but to give him a spell in State Cup.

No… Sounds like a capable 5/8 with room to do his craft.

Martin is no better than Moses, and we have stretched the budget on Mitchell. We need to work our investment!

Can he not be retained without it being all about Mitchel Moses?

Good clubs dont let talent like this go, its that simple.

This guys body shape and game he is going to play once he fills out is a fair bit different to Moses, there is room for both in a squad.

Lets have a look at these other Clubs that would snap him up for opportunity….

Manly... maybe however they are not a Club noted to use 2 Rookie halves though opportunity will be there...
Rorters...Pearce/Maloney...nope
Dogs.. Hodkinson/Reynolds...maybe but not really a Dessie Type of player
Titans...DCE/Edgley...nope
Parra...Foran/Norman...nope
Souths...Reynolds/Keary...nope
Penrith...Soward/Wallace...possible although they have a plethora of young talent coming through...
Nth Qld..Thurston/Morgan...nope
Brisbane...Hunt/Milford...nope
Newcastle..Mullen/Roberts...maybe
Melbourne..Cronk/Green...nope
Raiders.Williams/Cornish/Austin...possible
Warriors....Johnson/Lohlohea...chance being a Kiwi...but they have invested heavily elsewhere...
Sharks....Bird/Robson...maybe but don't all our players go there..
Dragons ..Marshall/Widdop....Nope

So 10 clubs where he would be behind established halves parings....4 maybes where there is no guarantee he'd be a walk up start...and 1 looking for halves that have been linked to Carney...

He is definite talent no doubt.... who is an attacking weapon but still has his issues defensively at 20's level.... he would be 2 years away from FG IMO ..I'm sure the Club will be doing everything to keep him...

You cant compare Taupau to young half. Young halves with talent do not come along as often as good impact forwards.

This will make a good read in 18 months time.

His contract is up at the end of this season so we'll know before then..

He's a good 2 years off being ready - anything can happen in that time.
Moses has been thrown in early and, thanks to the fact he's as hard as nails, has managed to survive the traffic aimed at him.
Martin is even more slight - he'd get murdered at the moment.
As long as he's prepared to bide his time they should keep him - no other team would throw him straight into the top grade anyway.

I'd say most clubs would want a player of his obviously talent on their books. I still think he could be an immensely valuable 14, like Leuluai for the Warriors last year, and if either Brooks or Moses is struggling for form throughout the year simply rotate him in.
I know it probably wouldn't be his preferred option, but it's an option nonetheless, and it's up to JT to get him to buy in to it.

Blokes like siro//Lovett/hoeter etc are all solid up and coming players but they are replaceable types. Blokes like Martin have an X factor that is hard to find and should be retained as a priority.

Agree - need to keep him as a back up.

If he's as good as everyone thinks, why would he want to stay here , when he can see that Moses is never going to be dropped no matter how he's playing?
If ,as has been stated here, he can only play 5/8 he is not going to knock back good money and a crack at first grade.
He's doesn't sound like a depth player who will hang around just t fill in for Moses.
If he's better than Moses, I'd rather try Drinkwater or another 5/8 was used now and wait until martin is ready, and I mean ready
