Martin is very talented, looks a goodun.

Moses was just as dominant in NYC and more dominant in other rep footy. As was SIrro for that matter.

People bag the NYC and say it has to be scrapped. The semi professional nature at U20 level has seen an unbelievable increase in junior development. Despite being younger, a current NYC side would be 20 points better than a Presidents cup side of a decade ago.

The issue isnt the NYC, it is the gap between professional and non-professional players, the second tier can be a national reserve grade (which has a load of other issues) or the current set up, but the second you run out of professional players and call up a guy who works 9-5 there is going to be a huge gap.

Anyway off topic.

Don't know about better , but certainly bigger.
And I'd dispute that when it comes to defence
i don't think too many would say that the defence isnt of an extremely low standard
So it's pretty hard to accurately gauge the quality of the attack shown.
There is no doubt that the best comp under the NRL , is the Qld Cup that's what we need more of , or an equally strong Nsw Cup

Te Maire Martin is the best player in the 20's comp.
He has success written all over him.
If we don't keep him, he will win the next team a premiership.

lol easy there demps…he's a long way off yet. Certainly promising though...

Brooks had MASSIVE raps on him and he hasn't gone to the next level Moses had the same raps and hasn't stepped up either. but they where both gods in the 20's. Why? They are young, inexperienced and didn't need to do as much in the 20's because they where so talented that it didn't matter. Halves take time. What i'm trying to say is we need to test Te Maire Martin out of the 20's and see if he can step up. what i'm thinking is what Brooks did in 2013 and Moses did in 2014, Put him in some NSW cup games, Maybe even if he could be on the bench and have some short bursts to show what he's got… I'm thinking if he is still killing it in the 20's by round 20 then maybe give him a couple of games at the back end of the season in NSW cup.

Te Maire won't play NSW cup this year. Not with his current frame.

That's correct (I believe), skinny as hell. if he re-signs we'll see him debut in NSW Cup in 2016\. He's got a bright future.

It is without doubt better. The defence is poor compared to NRL, but still better than anywhere below that standard (and former incarnations of this level)
The players at that level are defending against a much more organised and skillful attack for the first time, they dont control the ruck speed yet (as they havent been taught to yet) and the speed of set is about 10 secs quicker than NRL (almost 20%), this creates alot of space for well organised attacks to score points.
The attack structures comes much quicker than anything else, the defense takes a while to catch up.

If a presidents cup team from a decade ago played an NYC team, they wouldnt be able to control ruck speed or keep defence pattern either.
When we first went professional the scores were much higher in NRL too, for exactly the same reason, the attack improved so much quicker than defence.

What a load of crap. He's bigger than Moses, Maloney and Elgey off the top of my head, all of whom play NRL! His frame is good enough and will only get better. Technique needs to improve, as with all young halves. Seve is already up in NSW Cup, wont be long til Martin joins him. You can only learn so much in NYC

Really? A load of crap? Its not just his size but his defense is poor. Have you seen his D?
Moses may miss tackles but the kids tenacious. He keeps coming, i remember on numerous occasions he plays on with injury. Martin doesnt seem to have that yet.

Our club is over flowing with kids with potential, the trouble is at NRL level every team only can carry a couple of kids at very best if they want success. That is why we have been struggling for so long. So to ask a kid to play NSW cup with the hope a position will come available is not that attractive, especially if a few clubs promise him the world

Im with you, the kid is big enough and only getting bigger.

There is no emphasis on defense in NYC, put him up to State Cup and youll see his defense step up to that level.

He wont have a long term problem with his defense, he will adapt like all good players do.

We're only playing Joel Luani at 5/8 in NSW Cup atm. Should stick him up there now.

There'd be less tries scored, The Nyc is useless as a 2nd tier
That has to be an older comp with the better NYC kids to come up and play against men before they hit the top level.
As Yu can see , Moses would benefit if he was learning in a lower team. Anyway we'll have to differ on this one.

It's a lot more scientific nowadays than "he's big enough". Every kid is different.

Benji's shoulder issues were directly related to playing NRL before his body was ready.

The club will monitor Martin's weight program and bring him along slowly. There's little value in quickly putting 8kg of muscle on a young and rapidly growing frame.

Well, we are a club that has an abundance of good juniors coming through. Eventually you must pay them near top dollar to stay even if they haven't produced top flight performances yet.

They're our juniors and we are proud of them and we will make the mistake sometimes of sticking with them too long - just hoping.

Or, we save our money by not nurturing our own juniors and just be like the Roosters - spend it on pinching other clubs juniors.

I prefer our way even though it is prone to more heartache and disappointment.

I still have faith in Brooks, Moses, Tedesco, Nofo & Martin et al. We may not be premiers for another 20 years but I will enjoy watching these young juniors try their best for our club.

Ah! cq if only the half that wanted blood thought the same way.

Agree with you totally by the way

The market place sets the price a player is worth, so in the case with Brooks and Moses we were forced to pay top dollar and the same may happen with Martin. Its just like the Sydney property market its all about demand and supply.

Imagine the up roar if the club had let Brooks and Moses walk. We also have to squeeze 25 players under our cap so from time to time hard calls have to be made, some good an d the odd one bad

LOL if he is letting in tries in NYC you're assumption is he will "rise to the occasion" and start making solid one on one tackles? Give the kid time.
