Team After Bye

Season is over, find the centre we want starting in 2024 and give them 2 or 3 games while Naden is out. Saukuru, Feledy - whoever Sheen's wants ready for next season. Both lads look solid enough and will be far from our worst centres in the last decade.

Re Talau, here is how I see our squad:

Staines - 6 weeks at fullback then a contract offer or cut loose. As a winger I'd prefer more size but won't stink it up.
Tupou - gun, stick with him for 50+ games
Kepaoa - solid, potential gun, give him this season to work on errors but can't afford to stop improving
Naden - older and probably at his ceiling, our best centre but replaceable as he has too many howlers in him
To'a - solid 3rd centre, can't be first choice
Nofo - solid 3rd winger, can't be first choice (total liability if you consider dollars and attitude)
Bula, Feledy etc.... Unknowns

So where do U fit Talau in? To me the above are mostly back-ups, unknowns or replaceable but I'd have the first 6 equal to or above Tommy. No more passengers - our top 30 has too much dead wood.
AJ and TT's future is in the forwards. Like so many players of the past that start out younger in the centres and move to the forwards as they get older i.e Rubin Wiki types. AJ has this style in him and will only keep getting bigger the closer he gets to 30. AJ would be there now if not for injuries and having zero back ups in the backs. Terrible hands, he just needs to catch it from dummy half and hit it up and tackle all day. TT is the same. Backrow/forward bench can also cover backs or off to the reggies.

I like AJ as a bench backrower who can cover 3/4 line

AJ dropped it once against Parra. It was a dubious pass he wasn't expecting. A more mature player would have expected it but unfortunately, AJ dropped it. He's learning, he's agressive,, he's big. fast and he and Tuopou could be anything by seasons end. The left side is the least of our worries.
I'll go out on a limb and predict those two, outside Ice, will be one of the best edges in the comp.

Souths backline is phenomenal but that’s because every guy offers a unique threat. Even the ones that aren’t household names do their job. You have Cody Walker who has all the skills. He can give it to Mitchell who attracts up to three defenders most times. A centre in Graham who played for the kangaroos and then a try scorer on the wing who rarely misses an opportunity when presented a try.

What we would give for weapons like that.

I hear people giving Illias wraps. He’s been kicked in the arse by a rainbow.
It’s probably a chicken and egg argument, but the reality for me is that their uniqueness comes from their ability to work for each other, their positional play, being in the right place at the right time.
By contrast, our boys sometimes look like they’re disinterested but it’s maybe it’s a case of not knowing where they need to be?
Not trying to make excuses for them, just looking for solutions?
And you’re absolutely right, Souths have older more experienced players who don’t want to give up their position in the team, while we are younger, less experienced.
My pet hate is this “definition of insanity” when it’s the only thing that will make us better.
If only all our players had a lease on their spot in the team like a few nameless board members.

The wraps on Laurie has always been his speed.... then he gets ran down by Rankin 😂

Worth a shot imo, see what he can do.
All the better coaches have tried him on the wing.
A standing joke between myself and my son is laughing about how "elusive" he is whenever he has the ball in hand.

Could not believe some of the Fox commentators banging on about how he was a great player and how elusive he was.

Maybe somewhere else with an extreme attitude change, but can't see it happening here.

That idiot Gus Ghoul was waxing lyrical about him on tele the other day. Don't know where he gets that from apart from his SG ball days, He's never shown much at NRL level. God I hate Gus.

agree on Illias stuck up the backside with a rainbow in that backline

Doesnt matter who we put on the park, we wont match Manly
When considering the possible outcome of our next game, I count the number of our ex players, and their level of anger when leaving, because they always lift against us. There are only 4 in the Manly side, although Aloiai is not finished making his point.

Gus talking him up to get him to the dogs? I hate Gould too.
