TEAM ANNOUNCEMENT: Foundation Cup

I liked the efforts of both Anasta and Thompson against Parra. Seems like Potter is picking a side on form. That's an interesting idea!!

I only saw the highlights package, but Thompson was always around the ruck looking keen for work so good to see he is being rewarded with more opportunity.

Pettybourne, BMM and Tedesco are all lining up in NSW Cup as well. Well done to Thompson, I was certainly impressed with his metres, leg drive and ability to draw in several defenders in the brief highlights that were put together. Great work and thank you to Azsportsa for filming on that note.

Coach Potter has given the old guard the thumbs up which is understandable with the circumstances. But I do think that there will be a few changes in the not to distant future that a few will not like ,pace is the name of the game these days and the Tigers lack this out wide in a few spots….interesting times. This weeks match will be the tell tale if the team has actually changed structurally and if the attitude has improved this game is more than a trail it will defiantly show if the Tigers are up to it for season 2013.

Fair starting lineup, although there are a couple of additions I would have liked to see, such as Nofoaluma and Mr T being given another run. Nofo looks good from what I've seen, while Mr T looks like he'll spend a bit of time on the wing this year himself, and I'd really like to see him on the end of some backline plays, plus he's effectively an extra forward in bringing the ball out of the danger end.

Definitely lacking a prop on the bench, although I'm sure this role will fall to BMM with Bell the obvious first choice, it would have been nice to see big Ava get another crack after his stint last week was cut short due to a high shot and concussion. Just on Joel Reddy, he looked to be over the foot problem he endured for most of last year, but he's another back who lacks outright pace.

this is not the team to get us to the semis..Moltzen still there..Ayshford and Utai , not enough pace….Blair must be magic on the training field. And overall still lacking size and pace in the pack...

This is a team that Tim sheens could have chosen. Remember he's the one who signed Thompson and Anasta, and that's the only difference between this and the team that took thie field most of last year. Doesn't look like we have any new ideas in the three-quarters, who didn't function at all last year.

By conservative selections.

Theres also the difference in the fact that last yr we never had an actual halfback, and had Sheens maintained his job would have continued to have no genuine halfback. That fact alone changes the complexion of a Sheens side compared to a Potter side

You shouldn't have change for the sake of change.

Utai was one of our best last year, Lawrence needs to be there as does Koro, Ayshford has to prove his worth and play well but has shown he can do so. Moltzen is an alternative given Tedesco is being eased back in.

At the moment this is really among the best we can field in the backline.

The question of "have we moved on from Sheens" will come when injuries hit, or bad form with a starting player or great form from someone in reggies. Until then its wrong to say we haven't moved on.

I wouldn't take too much notice of the bench in a lot of ways.

Guys will be added.

Big thing is it is a chance for Pettybourne to play 80 minutes or close to it for the Reserve grade side. BMM also needs metres in his legs. Fulton should see a fair bit of NRL time in the trial as it is his first hit out.

Dunno what people expect Potter to do, hes a bargain basement coach that inherited a squad….do you want him to pick different players outta his ass?
Just cause hes a new coach doesnt mean players that arent ready will now be ready
God theres some impatience

After this week we will know a lot more although I get the feeling it will be very close to the round one team.

Like others I would like to see some added pace,Nofo or maybe even Teddy on the wing and another option instead of Aysford, but I expect them taking a conservative approach till they are forced through form or injury to look at other players.

One thing I did pick up from the short highlight package of the Eels games was, Millers passing was pretty loopy and was not crisp. Maybe I just saw his weak side, but to me it was not very good

Sheens would not have played miller at half. That could in itself change the dynamic of the back line if Marshall and Lawrence reconnect. I thought looked good too.

Miller was going to the UK if Sheen's stayed.

Very funny interview by Anasta on Miller after the U20's won the GF.

Anasta wished him all the best in the UK knowing Sheens was planning to play Anasta no.7\. Miller said "we will see." with a whiff of Sheen's sacking in the air.

Like some things about the side not others Imagine Fulton is only coming off the bench to get soem game time into his legs

Bell decision puzzles me though Wouldn't you want your starting prop for Round 1 starting (assuming Woods is out) in the final trial

Maybe Potter has another plan for Round 1 Big ask expecting Buchanan to start Round 1 v Newcastle in Newcastle v Mason ,Snowden etc 😱pen_mouth:

Not knowing extent of bells illness and how he's been training and when he returned….I can see why hes off the bench

Potter would be only too aware of the lack of f/r depth, possibly using the trials as a chance to fast track some exp. into Buchanan...just for down the track

I am happy Bodene Thompson was rewarded with a starting position given his form against Parramatta. Could be a great buy as he runs hard.

I think it is good to give some of the old guard a chance to prove themselves rather than make wholesale changes.

At least we have depth in the backline

Utai fails Nofo, Mr T, Lote

Ashyford/Lawrence fails - Reddy, Simona, ex Parra bloke

Moltzen fails Teddy

Marshall fails Anasta, Siro

Miller fails Brooks.

Front row is still the major concern if Big Red or Woods are injured for a long period

The bench for round 1 is looking like being

Fulton
Bell
Buchnann
Pettybourne/BMM

Finally 4 forwards on the bench.
