I was scrolling back up when i read this so read it from the bottom up if that makes sense. Soon as i started reading i thought ''well this will be about Lovett'' and sure enough. His role as the forum whipping boy is well established already this yr. See his offload to set up Chee Kam on the weekend? Wasn't bad for a guy who doesn't have an offload. He set up a try against Manly the same way last yr. Definitely does not deserve the mud that gets thrown at him.

It was a fairly hail mary type pass but still, he tried it and it stuck so can't fault him. It looked a bit random though.

Lovett needs to improve though, he just doesn't do enough. His defense is quite poor but I do think he copped plenty when he was forced to play in the centres where he just isn't an NRL quality centre. Way too slow.

I wouldn't be surprised if he improved out of sight though. He should put on some weight and become a prop imo. He's got many of the qualities a good toiling prop has but as a backrower he just isn't dynamic enough.

I can only go by the pictures on the website but Kyle looks a little bigger to me than he did last year, looks to have filled out a little. I recall reading somewhere, on the website too I think, that he had the best record in terms of effective tackles made per game or his record for effective tackles was very good anyway. A lot of what he does goes unnoticed unless it's an error and then, of course, it is highlighted. Not saying he's terrific but he can do what he's asked to do quite well. He and Lawrence will do as much (decoy) running off the ball as they will with it and they can play 80 minutes if needed too. So there's reasons why he might be picked as well as reasons he might not be picked but that goes for almost every player especially forwards.

I had know idea that he was our most effective tackler. I knew he made a lot and go all day. When people describe Melbourne as a team with stars surrounded by robots.. Lovett would be one of these effective robots that goes about his job.

I've noticed though that Lovett has a tendency to involve himself in tackles when he isn't needed. I.e the tackle is almost complete and he will come in at the last second. Often this ended up meaning we were a player short in the defensive line after a quick play the ball.

Did Madness get a run in the last trial? Hasn't played since that local nines game or whatever where apparently he was best on field.

Would also much rather see Griffin get a go instead of Lovett, he can play anywhere in the forwards.

Halatau must be injured.

No Chee-Kam or Graham?

Or Addo-Carr and Parahi.

I expect McConachie, Griffin, Chee-Kam, Addo-Carr, Dallas Graham and maybe JJ Felise will be added to an extended bench if they come through the NSW Cup/NYC trials.

Happy to see Aloiai named at 15.

Weird that Rankin is wearing the 6 and Moses the 18…

It's All part of the NEW game plan to confuse the opposition

Hindmarsh made a career of doing it.

Im looking forward to heading out there and having a look. Its a decent enough team.

orbably more interested to see how they are gelling and what style of footy they are going to play. We get to get more out of Farah and the back row is full of question marks i suppose.

Taylor doesn't usually throw up many Sheens like howelrs in selction ill give him that.

He does do this a lot. While when he gets his technique 100% spot on he's a very good tackler, when he's off his misses lead to a lot of line breaks. He'd be right up there with Brooks and Moses in terms of missed tackles leading straight to points for the opposition (if there was a stat for that).

SHARKS NAME SQUAD TO FACE TIGERS

Written by STAFF WRITERS , February 18, 2016
THE SHARKS have named a very strong 19-man squad to tackle the Tigers in their final hit-out before the season proper this Saturday.

New signing James Maloney will again lineup alongside fellow recruit Chad Townsend in the halves.

Captain Paul Gallen, Wade Graham and Valentine Holmes have also been named to make their first appearance of 2016.

Sharks squad to face Tigers
1\. Jack Bird
2\. Valentine Holmes
3\. Gerard Beale
4\. Ricky Leutele
5\. Sosaia Feki

6\. James Maloney
7\. Chad Townsend

8\. Sam Tagataese
9\. Michael Ennis
10\. Andrew Fifita
11\. Luke Lewis
12\. Wade Graham
13\. Paul Gallen

Interchange
16 Jayson Bukuya
18 Joseph Paulo
19 Ben Barba
21 Matt Prior
22 David Fifita
23 Chris Heighington

I don't think they'll make the 8 this year. Forward pack looks tired to me and aside from Holmes who has proven to be a good finisher, I don't think their backline is that great.

sharks will be tough to beat this year.. surprised they're trying bird at fullback even though they have barba/holmes. i'd have bird at 5/8, maloney at 7.

their forward pack is very strong.

I guess Jack Bird has played most other positions in the backline. Being a trail I guess they are willing to test him there as well.
There can't be to many positions in a footy side that that bloke can't play.

They're not just trialing Bird there he has the starting No. 1 locked up. I imagine there will be some shifting around once Barba comes on off the bench, they might explore Townsend at hooker and Bird to 5/8 to spell Ennis given his old legs.

Match Preview: NRL Trial vs. Sharks

Wests Tigers will look to build on their two-point victory over Melbourne when they host the Cronulla Sharks at Campbelltown Sports Stadium in the club’s second trial match.

After a successful trip to the Sunshine Coast last week, the final trial will offer Wests Tigers the opportunity to build some momentum before the competition officially kicks off in a fortnight.

Wests Tigers Head Coach Jason Taylor named a near full strength side for the match with newly appointed skipper Aaron Woods set to make his first appearance for 2016, along with Wests Tigers 2015 Player of the Year James Tedesco. Vice-captain Chris Lawrence has overcome a corked hip sustained in the Nines to take his place in the back-row, partnering Curtis Sironen, who will also have his first hit out of the pre-season after missing last week’s trial match.

Tim Simona, Kevin Naiqama, Sauaso Sue, Ava Seumanufagai and Josh Drinkwater will also return from the Auckland Nines campaign for their first trial match before the season begins.

Taylor said the trial match was a good opportunity to see a full-strength team in action, with several Round 1 positions still up for grabs heading into Saturday night’s match.

“This week’s team is pretty close to [as it would be] in Round 1,” Taylor said.

“There’s plenty of guys who are pushing for a spot — we’ve got a battle in the halves to cover Luke Brooks for Round 1, a battle on the left wing and maybe a bench spot as well.

“We’re looking for a team performance this week — that’s the big thing for us.

“It might be one of our first actual games, but we’ve been training for a long time now in regards to executing well… so there’s no reason why we can’t execute early in the season.

“The big thing about this game is about getting the minutes into the guys that need it.”

With Wests Tigers NYC and NSW Cup featuring before the match, along with Western Suburbs junior representative grades earlier in the day, it’s shaping as a great afternoon of footy at the suburban ground, with plenty of tickets still available from Ticketek (click here to purchase).

All Wests Tigers 2016 members can gain entry to the trial match for free (click here for more).

For those unable to match, Wests Tigers will be providing a live stream of the NRL match on [www.weststigers.com.au](http://www.weststigers.com.au) from 6:45pm, proudly sponsored by Campbelltown City Council.

JAC two length of the field tries already.

Thought he wasn't playing, would love to have him in first grade, sure he might let some tries in while he is learning, but geez he would score some, and get the crowd into the games.
