We looked much better when Cherrington came on too.
He swung the momentum back in our favour.

Cherrington really sharpened the attack from dummy half

His little left-to-right to Sirro to set up the linebreak was a ripper.

Thats how I saw it. Not ready for 80 mins but we need him on the field as much as possible this year. He improves the speed of our play significantly.

I hope Taylor finds a place in the 17 for Aloiai, plays the game hard. They need to find him a bigger pair of shorts for his tree trunk thighs though

Notes and observations i jotted down during the game, not only going on todays game but my observations from the open training session last week on the coast and last weeks trial.

Sharks made easy meters through the middle.
Hunt isn't a winger.
Siro hasn't improved, and is rubbish.
our outside defence can be really really terrible, opposition getting on the outside of our wingers too easily.
Kevie can't draw a fullback and put his support player away.
Grant and sauce are carbon copies, ineffective pussies for their size.
Rankin is not a winger or kicker but id like to see him in our side somewhere. Centre is his position i think 2.Nofo 3.Rankin/Che Kam 4.Simona 5.Addo Carr/Kevie.
Looked good when we throw the ball around and backline plays look smooth and thats what well have to do if we want to go any good this year. But i suppose any team looks good with the amount of possession we had in the second half, glad we could turn it into points.
Brooks short kicking lets the pressure off, takes the wrong option.
Woods really needs to shave his melon.
Sue ran hard and was good.
Littlejohn no no no no no. (spilt the ball with minutes to go on our goal line)
Nofo is human
WE NEED A KICKER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Tigers went up a level when Cherrington and Brooks came on. However at that stage the Sharks were tried. We had all the ball, repeat sets after a great kicking game by the halves. Ennis (the Sharks best) went off. Cherrington was never tested in defence.Brooks organised the team brilliantly when he came on. He looked a step above all the other backs on the field , bar Teddy.

I saw it a bit differently TIGER. Tedesco was our best player with Woods not far behind. Grant was solid and Ava made metres coming off the bench. I thought both Rowdy and Sirro were solid and defended well. Josh Aloiai should make the 17, he hits hard in attack and defence and we need some impact off the bench. Sue was good also. Cherrington definitely adds some spark coming off the bench.

In the backs I thought both Moses and Brooks looked a class above and Littlejohn was alright too, definitely better than Drinkwater. Simona had very limited opportunities tonight and Rankin looks a decent finisher. If Moses is going to be goalkicker, I'd probably prefer to see Addo-Carr given a shot on the wing. A couple of length of the field tries today…he's the best finisher we have.

I know it was only a trial game but geez our defence is soft . Taylors had one year and 2 trial games to sort it out and I don't know if this team is capable of the Roosters style of defence Taylor wants ?
On the other hand Tedesco , Moses , Brooks and Cherrington all look Super sharp ..woods And Sue were impressive .
Bring back the Razzle Dazzle !

To be honest, it didn't look too different from last year…poor tiges...hope we do ok this year

Quick thoughts:

- Rankin got the points over Hunt, but JAC was only on for 10 mins and didn't get much opp.

- Littlejohn a class above Drinkwater, and honestly, in attack, not so far behind Brooks + Moses (though definitely behind).

- Lawrence must have been doing squats all summer because he is the new Buckets, glad to finally see him training for a backrower's shape.

- Siro fairly disappointing - did some good stuff, some average, doesn't really inject himself with enough energy. I fear this might be another year of so-so games, or it might take him 10 rounds to get any form up

- Tim Grant pretty good, plenty of go-forward and defence, different style to any of the other props, though he's a little like KG in that he needs to lean into attack more so they don't chop his legs so easily.

- Josh Aloiai - big fellow, really impressed with his power and energy in the hitup, I can definitely see a place for him on the bench.

- Lovett - darn, he kind of impressed. I don't know if it was the crappy size of the stream, but he looked bigger and the Sharks players struggled to bring him down several times. In previous matches Lovett has struggled to be effective in the hitup, even though he times his runs fairly well, but today he seemed a fair handful in that second half, even in the Sharks were tiring. I am not sure what to make of it.

- Nofo still has some really poor errors in him. He's such a nuggety and rugged runner, but I expect some head-shaking moments.

- Simona and Kevnaq are a lock for starting centres; I thought Frozone was dangerous.

- Farah was enterprising but I think Ennis still got the points on him, much more select with his passing and feisty in defence. Cherrington really brought the attack forward 2nd half, though he was aided by Brooks coming on, I felt his distribution was superior to Farah. Cherro passes the ball out in front, gets the first receiver to run onto the ball, there is forward momentum. Farah holds his passes too long for me, he passes to Brooks like he passes to Woods.

- Woods was typically hard to bring down, I'd love if he got some more momentum in his carries though, instead of the standing starts.

- Jesse Sue good all-round game, he might be a real weapon this year.

- Kicking game was… good, surprisingly. Lots of kicks landed just short of the line, lots of repeats.

- Tedesco still clearly the class player on the field. For whatever kind of talent Jack Bird "thinks" he is, Tedesco is arguably the class fullback in the comp right now.

- Didn't see too much standout from the subs they ran on late. Cassel clearly has terrific defensive technique, took out Fifita twice, but migod his handling was terrible. MCK had limited touches but looked alright, though I suspect he won't be there Rd 1.

- Overall I thought we were the more threatening side, but too often we let Sharks make easy yards because their PTB was quite quick and ours so slow. If we continue to struggle to contain the roll-forward of opposition teams, we will continue to fight out in the bottom 8.

Agree with most of the above,
Bad points,
Our goal line defence sucks.
Good points,
Finally some pressure applied to all positions positions
Brookes played well but Littlejohn will keep him honest
Alioai will do the same to Sirro and Lawence.
Addo-carr and Chee-cam will be good replacements for our backs
On a side note Chee-cam is a lot faster than I thought

It'll be an up and down year , we need to win the Ruck . The sharks made too many metres up the guts .

This has been my problem with Farah for the past 3 years. The fact he has slowed down I can accept. The fact he still makes poor choices I don't like but it has always been part of his game. However, I just stand that he is such a poor passer from dummy half. Every ball is behind players. How many times do I see Brooks have to jump to catch a Farah pass. Forget long passes, Farah doesn't even throw short passes well. By contrast, Cherrington throws a 20 metre pass off the ground that hits Brooks on the chest. Nothing had changed tonight. Wobbly pass after wobbly pass.

You have to remember Brooks and Cherrington are coming on when we are dominating possession and more field position and just getting all the cream, real easy to look good when its laid on a platter for you. Our set plays looked real good though, very good ball handling, timing etc looked like a training drill.

I understand that which is why I focused on the one thing that has nothing to do with the opposition or momentum - throwing a clean pass from dummy half.

Taylor has something to work with right though the club ..I was impressed with the forward strength in reserve grade and the structure that they had ,be assured this coach seems to know what he is doing. It was pretty positive tonight seeing the new faces and old…. a few points Farah would be glad Ballin is not ready as he is on old legs it will be shown up this season Ennis played all over him, Siro is a VERY lazy player and if he does not pick up there are types in the lower grade that will push him out .
My outlook for the season at this stage is Taylor has the cattle to make a dent ,whether he has what it takes to drop players and inject others will be his waterloo as there is some very damaging types he can choice from .The club seems to be moving in the right direction right through all grades it was interesting to see the change in player though the grades and in a good way ...onto round 1.

Really enjoyed the night at Cambo. Entertaining game for a trial with a lot of positives.

First 10 minutes we were a level above, then the next 20 minutes momentum swung to the sharks and we hardly had any ball. Even though we got hammered in the penalties during this time i still felt we had the Sharks covered.

2nd half we moved the ball around a fair bit but at times our defence was terrible. One time Teddy was screaming for players to move left and it was like they had no idea where they should be. Ball control last 10 minutes was worst ive ever seen

There is a noticable change to how our halves play. Often they came from near behind the play the ball and angle across to the open side. Its an interesring alteration. Pushes us a little sideways which we will have to be careful about, but i think its interesting.

We definately played a more positive brand of footy. We look so much sharper when Cherrington is on.

Of the players

Woods outsatnding
Sue was pure power
Aloai very impressive
Lawrence was strong
Kev and Nofo got caught out once badly in defense but otherwise very impressive.
Siro will have to lift on that effort.
All halves were good, Littlejohn will be the 7 round one.
Rankin will be on the wing.
Tesdesco is irreplaceable.

Moses kicked 2 goals and rankin kicked 1… But you're right the goal kicking was not great

Yet a few people on here fail to see that poor goalkicking will bite us in the arse at critical times this season and in all probability cost us a few games.
