Team vs knights

And the bloody supporters OST, lots of hype but it’s a results driven business.
Cut out the stupid errors, just do the fundamentals correctly and convert pressure to points, basically what we didn’t do yesterday.
Don’t think there will be major team changes this week.
Everyone to get a second chance.
Think they’ll run with the same side barring injury but there’s a bit of pressure on the spine already. Kepaoa needs a big game or that experiment might be short lived.

Far to sensible, one game and the knives come out, and the brains recede !

1. Charlie Staines - we can't persist with Laurie playing like that. Staines looks much more reliable to me.
2. Junior Tupou - unlucky not to play last week but gets his chance with Staines moving to fullback.
3. Brent Nadan
4. Starford To'a - I have no idea why he wasn't the first centre picked. Him or Kepaoa are our best centres. Nadan is good but he has a lot of mistakes. Talau needs time in reserves or time off to get into the game.
5. David Nofoaluma

6. Asu Kepaoa - big mobile and hard working. He isn't a long term option but we need to try something. Brooks to play reserves and prove he is ready to make the move back to first grade.
7. Adam Doueihi

8. David Klemmer
9. Api Koroisau
10. Stefano Utoikamanu
11. Sean Blore
12. Isiah Papalli
13. Joe Ofahengaue

14. Jake Simpkin
15. Alex Twal - misses our on the starting team where I think he is best playing long minutes but the other 3 guys offer more impact.
16. Fonua Pole
17. John Bateman - if he isn't ready chuck Laurie in as a utility to cover everywhere in the backline.

The gameplan needs to change from one where we are passing the ball a lot to one where we are running over the top of them.
Too radical too soon Earl. Don’t disagree with your thoughts but think they will persevere for a little longer.

1. Daine Laurie
2. David Nofaluma
3. Brent Naden
4. Junior Tupou
5. Charlie Staines
6. Adam Doueihi
7. Luke Brooks
8. Stefano Utoikmano
9. Api Korisau
10. David Klemmer
11. Isaiah Papalili
12. Shawn Blore
13. Joe Ofanguae

14. Jake Simpkins
15. Fonua Pole
16. Alex Twal
17. John Bateman

18th man. Asu Kepaou
Kepaou has to be in the side , some where , he was great

I don't want changes ...I want to see a massive attitude change in attack and for them to do a goalkicking shoot out and cut the 2 stupid defensive reads that cost simple tries

Yeah I think we need to sacrifice a couple of goats, burn incense, pray to a variety of different deities, can some religious people from a variety of different religions to chant, sing, dance during training, in the dressing room and during the games.

You can’t understand why though? Clubs coming off the spoon and been very vocal on a new team new attitude. I saw brooks go missing, team having no idea in attack, captain starting off the bench, goal kicking a big fail, dropping off tackles, bombs being let to bouncing, new quality recruits playing down…I could go on.

If the team was reasonably successful over the last decade I would be comfortable in waiting for the team to gel and trust the system. Wests have no systems and seem to make it up as they go along. If you’re not worried you’re not paying attention.

I don't think we will see many changes barring injuries to TT and Blore. Turning this around is not about changing the team (yet). There were plenty of below par performances:
  • Stefano dropped a few and a couple of his runs were nothing more than strolls,
  • Api looked grossly underdone in the attack department, almost looked as if he didn't know the plays at times,
  • AD's defensive decisions at times were diabolical. The Fifita try was just as much him standing back waiting for Foran as it was TT not protecting his inside shoulder and we probably shouldn't even discuss the Brimson try. Kicks in general play B- Goalkicking D.
  • TT in defence and attack was limp. D grade effort even when he wasn't cramping.
  • ICE - dropped a few and made some shit decisions to push the pass.
  • Brooks and Laurie - will just leave that there - enough said elsewhere in the forum.
There are some positives to take away - we won pretty much every stat that mattered less the scoreboard. Statistically we matched or bettered GC; but we made so may unforced errors that we nullified it. We had some great metres across the board but dropped it at critical times or threw stupid passes. AD when he engaged the line and drew the defence was good. Even Brooks ran pretty well at times. Laurie was busy (not sure I can get over his lack of commitment to the high ball though) and made plenty of post contact meters for a little dude.

It came together against Canberra a couple of weeks earlier when we earnt the right to attack. This week we got off to a flyer with the GC errors and we decided to throw the ball around without having set the platform. We didn't have them on the back foot defensively when we went there and spent plenty of time passing for the sake of it. We need to get our heads down and drive them into the ground for the first 20 minutes and then try to take advantage of the compressed defence and tired forwards. Yesterday was mostly frantic attempts to play ad lib footy instead of second phase play after bending or breaking the line.

Our coaching staff aren't stupid. If we can see it so do they. Most of the players also aren't stupid and have some nous - they will see it on the replays as well.

If TT and AD aren't singled out Farrah there are much bigger problems. If Benji didn't have the spine by the ear today he doesn't deserve a clipboard.

So what does it come down to? Attitude.

Our attitude beat us yesterday - we tried to score without earning it, we made poor defensive decisions because we gave GC time to throw shape. Less the inability to diffuse high balls, this was not evident against Canberra. We rolled up our sleeves and got in the trenches early; then built our attack.

Do that against the knights and we have the cattle to make them pay. Don't do the hard work and we will shift sideways for the sake of it yet again.

No need to panic - early days yet.

2025- That's what Sheens said is a realistic target, for our side. The side concentrated on the forwards, and they played well, taking into account Api, with injury and little training time. The same with Brooks who hasn't been able to train for months. The backs are a weakness, and aside from Stains who has done nothing wrong, are basically the same. The halves of Brooks and AD, are still to prove they can compete with the best, i doubt either will start in 2025. Considering player recruitment , new coaching style and training we have done well in a few months. There attempt to buy Moses, shows that the club recognises the importance of good halves, as i'm sure they know the weakness from 1 to 4 . This cannot happen overnight, quality players are hard to get,
Give the side some time to develop. Simkins will be in the top 13 somewhere by mid year.

If you thought Brooks was fully fit, or Api , it is you who are not paying attention. Try seeing positives for a change !

So sheens played injured players in key positions?

Either way, I didn’t see anything I haven’t seen from Brooks fully fit. Let’s hope it gets better.

Finally someone who gets it, we need divine intervention

Good rational summation, most unusual by most on the forum.
