A month ago, Wests Tigers U20s Coach Grant Jones was agonising over his search for a permanent full-back.

In an article on weststigers.com.au on May 19, Jones was set to use his fifth full-back in 10 games on the eve of Wests Tigers clash with Penrith at Campbelltown Sports Stadium.

Blessed with the backing up ability of prolific tryscoring full-back Jake Mullaney over the past two years in the NYC competition, Jones was looking for a full-back who could inject himself into the play at the right time.

He had previously tried Ratu Tagive, Limoni Kamuta, Matt Evans and Jay Bonnell at full-back and was giving Justin Smith a chance for the Panthers game.

"In previous years, we would make a break and Jake was there. We are making breaks but no one is there. It is just not happening. The full-back position is up for grabs,'' Jones said at the time.

The experienced coach also spoke briefly about a player who had caught his eye. His name… James Tedesco from the Western Suburbs SG Ball side.

"James is a talent. He has good speed, is good with the high ball, and can read the game well,'' Jones added.

"He knows where to be and is a good support player. His time will come."

Fast forward a month to a sunny Sunday afternoon at Leichhardt Oval and a clash with Melbourne Storm. Wearing the number one jersey was Tedesco, playing just his third U20s game.

Wests Tigers turned in their finest attacking performance and their best win of the season in a 60-20 victory.

Jones was right. Tedesco was very good under the high ball, has scintillating speed and certainly can read the game well. Four tries proved that. His time had come.

Tedesco's four tries equalled the Wests Tigers U20s club record for most tries in a match - set by none other than Mullaney against Cronulla in 2009.

Today, Jones is grinning like a cheshire cat. The search is officially over. Tedesco has been found.

I was watching the 20's on Sunday with a view of watching Miller, Sironen, BMM & Begovich. Throughout the game that I saw, this one player kept showing up time after time which I didnt know. By the time the final whistle had blown, I was asking everyone about this Tedesco kid…

This kid is a 'real' fullback. He isnt one of those special talent kids like Mullaney who always look good. This bloke has some of the best line running and support running I have seen for a while... This kid WILL play NRL in 2 years!!!

This kid could be our Billy slater in a few years he has billy smarts in support play and nearly billy speed. He is very quick between the ears and quick in the legs.

After watching him in the junior reps and the immediate impact he has had in NYC I am of the opinion that Tedesco will be a regular first grader within the next two to three years. A offseason training with the NRL squad will have him looking like Slater.

McKinnons replacement in the waiting.

I look forward to watching his development.

Unfortunately, it isn't our criteria he needs to meet, that lies with Herr Sheens.

Hey Watto,
What'd you think of Sirro??

Another off the great St Gregorys production line. Imagine all the other players we could have picked up if we actually looked after them..

Showd great maturity for a kid who is just 18… Isnt afraid to tell the older and bigger boys where he wants them and isnt afraid to lay down the law... His time in motion with the ball is very controlled.

He is a good one!!!

With the Ball in hand I think he is a CRACKER!!
I really think he is a genuine ball player…. I lot of people have him slotted for SR
But I think he would be wasted, A ball playing lock maybe???
I think he is far too graceful at full speed for it....
And he is a tackling machine!!
I'd love to see him in Firsts.... Just for a run off the bench.

Hopefully he is one of the players whos ability as a fullback transfers to senior football.

We have had alot of truly great kids in the position who have never been able to make the final step up.

It would be nice if he is the exception

Tesdesco was very impressive last weekend. I especially liked his fourth try at my end of the field - not a lot was on but he showed speed and power to blaze a trail through the middle and get over the line. He simply had far more desire than any of ther defence!

Sirronend has looked good since he started, I think he will be a great lock… Heighno replacement 2013??
