Tedesco NSW SOO III fullback

if we are telling the truth on here, then i would have to say teddy had a so so night, but it was not his fault. moylan as a 5/8 was terrible his passing was slow and he never out his players into any open spaces, bird would have done a much better job but daley is like JT he is stubborn if teddy had moses in side him rather than moylan we would have created a lot more.

Overall a really solid performance from Teddy in a backline with very little to offer. I thought he played "sensibly" taking safe options rather than riskier ones when it came to offloading. I think what most fans will not be used to seeing is how well he was contained by QLD's fantastic defence. The way they moved up and cut NSW off (yes - mostly offside but they get away with it) especially when they were down to 12 men, really stifled NSW.
I agree that NSW lack genuine playmakers - we really couldn't take advantage of the amount of possession, often looking frantic or directionless. It seems to me that Pearce and Maloney with Bird on the bench would be the best option for NSW's future.
In comparing the attack of the two teams, the great disadvantage for NSW is their makeshift backline - playing a five eighth at half, a fullback at five eighth, another fullback at centre and a centre on the wing!! Compare that to a seasoned set of quality backs who have been playing together far more regularly over the last decade. Let's face it - if you picked your Australian backline right now which NSW players would be in it?
You can't expect to throw a bunch of your best backs together (that it is debateable in itself), shuffle them around into positions, (they have no chemistry together), train for a few sessions and then expect to be brilliant against a group of guys who have in the most part been at the top of their games together for a decade.
As someone said it often looked like Laurie's plan was - "Just give it to Teddy".

I am not convinced on Moylan, several times NSW lacked direction from their halves, give me J or A Reynolds even Pearce ahead of him anytime.

If there's one explanation to Teddy 'not passing' is because Teddy is a good reader of edge defense when he sweeps. Reason why he ain't passing is because the opposition centre and winger have duges and ferguson easily covered..if he passes they'll get dragged over the sideline. The video of Ferguson waving his arms and gesture in disgust is what any over-convifdent winger would do when they think they can take the opposition defense on - but in reality, Oates had him easily covered and Inglis would have come over and dragged him over the sideline = Posession turnover.

Thankfully, Teddy could see this on a number of occassions. Somerthing armchair critics and those who don't play league IRL don't see.

Hard to do much with the ball when every single qld tackle is illegal. Honestly if QLD made 200 tackles they hold down in 180 of them.

QLD's defense was stifling. They seemed to always be in NSW's face (likely offside) and then holding down for ages. Made any sort of attacking momentum difficult.

Commentators were claiming Qld never got back 10 - was anyone at the game who wants to give an opinion?

I remember seeing on the TV in the second half a 20m tap by NSW where a Qld defender was blatantly standing 2 metres offside just to the right of the ref. Other than those kind of set pieces it can be a bit hard to judge on the TV because the camera angles are often too narrow.

Thurston apparently broke Tedesco's nose. Off season surgery required.

He was an angry player in the second stanza, having at least two shots at Tedesco.

James was where he needed to be, when he needed to be and probably at least one more try scored against us had Moylan been there again

Teddy was good without being great. Died with the ball a couple times when he should've passed, and passed too early when he should've run to the line.

To be fair, the piss-poor attack of NSW made it hard for him to do anything. Was kinda just given the ball and expected to do something, didn't really get much space, and wasn't used in any real plays (not that NSW had any plays). Made it easy for QLD to shut him down. Pretty funny that the Tigers know how to use him better than a rep team  .

Still, overall a really solid debut. Can't wait to see him develop his rep game, I reckon next year he'll really open up.

Also, he cops a lot of dog shots (not just last night). Inglis in particular likes to try and bully him but thankfully Teddy is too classy to bother himself with that nonsense. Just gets up and plays the ball like a champ.

I mentioned this to my mate. And I was surprised that teddy got picked. I thought queensland would be all over him but was great to see him out there but what needs to be considered is that teddy had 1.5 weeks to settle into the team. He is a great supporting fullback and great in defence and under the high ball.
I think there needs to be some credit placed on how the tigers set up in attack. Teddy looks like a world beater in our team because of the angles and set plays the team uses when the ball is spread out to teddy. In most cases he has an option of run, hit the Centre or hit the winger. What also needs to be mentioned is how lawernce runs lines in our side. This all creates more space for an elusive fullback to utilize. None of which was never going to happen when against the best defence in the game we have a team that consistancy spreads the ball wide with no players in motion and the wingers and centre's cleary numbered up. He did look like a hog out there, but only cause their gameplan was to get him the ball as many times as possible. Ask yourself have you ever seen teddy have 22 runs and run over 258m in a tigers game. The answer is no! Great bloody effort all the same, oh and cronk was at least 2m in front when teddy received the pass as he already started to chase when Ferguson made the initial break!

Take your tiger glasses off. He played for himself and NSW backline didn't look like scoring as a result on quite a few occasions. With that amount of ball, field position and a lop sided penalty count, the blues should have comfortably won.in the end they were lucky to.

Your level of Rugby league knowledge is very poor, it's a toss up between you and Daley as to who knows less.
It was his very first game. His first game. Do you understand Game 1\. He didn't get pushed back into the in goal and he didn't drop 3 bombs like your mate Moylan on debut.
He had a fullback inside and outside of him, why I don't know. Moylan doesn't go to the line and they had no block runners so the defence just slides.
Tedesco was brilliant and it really demonstrates all that is bad about Wests Tigers fans that they don't support their players.

I have lost respect for those top Qld players because of their dirty tactics especially on up and coming players and smaller players. If NSW did not listen to their champion's speech well serve them right for breaking Teddy's nose in that manner . I have already said that when a player uses dirty tactics after the game the whole opposing team should refuses to shake their hand at the end, and for months later as well.

@cktiger:

It doesn't take any imagination to know that Tedesco was going to be targeted big time by the elite grubs. Any truth that Thurston broke Tedescos nose? At least he won't miss six weeks like Dugan. Time to scrap this BS.

Hillarious rant. Watch the game sober you dopey moron.

Every time we were near the line the ball would go to Ted, NSW knew that he would be targetted and should have made their game plan revolve around Maloney.

260m on debut is beyond expectations, he absolutely killed it, anyone who thinks otherwise has stones for brains, if it wasn't for ted Qld would have won.
