There is nothing to stop us getting him. Under my proposal if we valued him at for example $500k and his current club $400k, we can get him. My theory is his current club should be able to say to the NRL we offered him $400k under the salary cap. The NRL should then refuse to register his contract unless it for at least $400K under the salary cap.
In the above we would still get the player and pay him $500k of which $400 is in the salary cap. We cant pay him $500k and have him in the salary cap at $300k. It probably means if we really want him we will have to shred some additional players to make way in the salary cap. This would help to spread the talent out and not have clubs stockpile all the best players on small amounts under the salary cap but pay them huge money outside the cap in TPAs. It would not stop a player earning additional money it just would be set what his minimum value has to be under the cap.
Whilst currently the NRL refuses to register some players as their salary cap is too low they don't take this additional step. Why should for example Cronulla offer Fifita $700k a year and the dogs $850k a year, the dogs should have to put him in the salary cap at least $700k. It is likely currently they will put him in at around $450-500K. This additional money if charged to the dogs would see them have to release some additional players if they want him, again spreading the talent further.

okay, i didnt grasp your concept, sorry.

that is a great idea having an (ostensibly?!) impartial arbitrator in contract negotiations and forcing clubs to use a reasonable cap amount on a player.

not trying to be contrary, just wondering what the case would be if a club wanted a player about to come off contract from another club, would the incumbent club be made to increase a players cap allocation if the other club made a huge offer?

just thinking it could possibly lead to clubs making ridiculous offers to force a club to use more of its cap space just through spite!!

I haven't seen or heard any media this weekend however was just listening to triple m and they were talking like its a foregone conclusion that he has signed with the roosters.

I dont get it if true, even on Friday night the roosters were using RTS at fullback in parts of the game, the guy they've groomed to replace minichello for years

ah man, it would be hugely disappointing if he did go to the roosters and just reinforce the disparity and unfairness of the way players are paid in the nrl.

i really hope this turns out to be false…

If Teddy goes i will be upset. especially after all the talk of the young up and coming tigers team being torn apart in the first year stuff starts looking good. if teddy goes i will still bleed Blake White and Gold. im sure the club will do what ever they can to keep him and still be in a position to keep the team healthy. they obviously cant put all their eggs in one basket, because when they do sign him ,we will all be screaming to resign nofo and sirro. i dont doubt teddy is a better natural talent than the blokes also coming off of contract but we cant win them all. if was a kid playing for another club and the tigers came calling ( the team i have always gone for)and were even close to the money i was on at another club im fairly certain i would go. mates are mates regardless if they play for another club and as any one that has changed clubs can tell you. you make new mates. but fingers crossed he stays. if he stays it will be a bigger boost to keeping nofo & sirro.

I see the big issue here being the fact that Tedesco would have dreamt about playing for the Roosters all his life. On the other hand Sironen and Nofoaluma are Tigers through and through. As much as it's a prick of a thing to say, they will require less financial coercion to stay, ie they would stay here even if another side offered them significant overs. Tedesco is likely a big Tigers boy too, but the Roosters are the dream and probably the only side that could snipe him like this.

I think we throw the bank at Tedesco and give Nofoaluma and Sironen reasonable deals that take them through to the end of the years that a couple of the older boys are off contract where money will be able to be spent on them. So 2 year deal for Nofoaluma with a handshake agreement that if he stays on the field and keeps it up he gets Richards money and likewise for Sironen with … I dunno Lawrence maybe? 2 year extension for Noffa, 1 year for Sironen.

I have also heard it is a done deal with the Roosters. If is is not true the Tigers should be doing everything in their power to wrap this kid up to a long term contract this week. The same should be said for Gavet and Tapau. We should be contracting all these young kids Now!

Remember when Robbie was locked in at the eels?

I think we probably should give Mayer a chance to sort this out before wrists are slit.

I see your point but if his current club makes a ridiculous offer won't he take it

Look no system is perfect but the current system needs vast improvement. Maybe the NRL committee set up under my system can have a veto power if it appears an unreasonable figure has been out on a player. They can then decide the figure

We all want the kid to stay, but most of all he must look to his future it could end next game you never know. so if he dose go we should get off his back and wish him well.If we all got a better offer of more money than we have now we would go i hope he stays but if not good luck to him . The tigers i am sure are on top of this .

I'm surprised the roostets are prepared to pay big dollars for him.
They are well sorted at the back with a succession plan well in force with RTS, Hastings is generation next in their plan, they have Moga to come back in also. ….I would have thought a direct replacement for SBW and upgrading Friend, Cordner the young props et al would be a higher priority.

actually it wasnt long after posting this that i realised that it was a silly point because all you would have to do is have all offers viewed by the nrl. if a club makes an offer, they are obliged to follow through with it…

Sounds like a done deal, I'm assuming mini got in his ear during the Italians World Cup campaign. I really hope it's untrue but does this mean the roosters will be releasing RTS or the like? We need to do what we can to keep him and brooksy together. Especially with some mongrel now in the pack.

I'm surprised if people think Teddy being a Roosters supporter as a kid has much to do with it. Very very many players supported a different side as kids to those they ended up playing for.

E.g. the Johns boys were Balmain supporters before Newcastle had a side, Farah was a mad Bulldogs supporter.

I think Matty John,s was a Balmain, supporter & Joey was a Wests, supporter or vice versa?

Probably the best fullback in SG Ball.
The roosters ball 5/8 is another with a big reputation.

What junior district did they come form? I doubt it was the 3 clubs in the Roosters junior league

And the Roosters signed the very highly rated young fullback Jackson Hastings, son of one of their former greats.

But no you guys you are probably right. Yep, between RTS and Hastings they're desperately short of future fullbacks!
