Tedesco unfairly criticised

There's been quite a few people on here getting at the very least frustrated with Tedesco.
Personally I think the bar was set very high for this kid and I too was expecting a bit more from him after this many games.
Unfortunately we haven't really seen him carve up with the ball, nor break the line on kick returns.
But the one thing he is doing really well imo is the first and foremost aspect of a fullbacks game and thats been his defense.
He is consistantly in a good position to difuse kicks. He takes kicks with no hesitation or regards for his well being, be that a grubber or bomb. And as the last line of defense he has held his own and made some good one on one try savers.

He returns the ball hard enough for his first year although he studders at the defensive line looking for gaps. And yeah he is slipping alot and not finding those line breaks, but i think that will come in time and with a team that is firing on all cylinders.

I for one have no hesitation in sticking with him there and for months now my heart hasn't been in my mouth everytime the opposition puts the ball in the air.

LIke i said I was expecting a bit more with the ball, but i think he is getting all the 1%'s right and is definately going to be first grade fullback for years to come. Not forgetting his knee probably still isn't 100% and that extra bit of speed is still to come.
 
He's got the commitment and the ability in defense. He's shown signs of his attack. Currently he is inconsistent but that can probably be put down to age and recovery from the acl. Over the next pre-season i expect him and Brooks to develop some combinations then we will see his worth.
 
Yes, I remember a younger Josh Dugan being similar to what Tedesco is today. How many years did it take for him to be the player he is now? We need to stick with our commitment to this young bloke and reap the rewards in coming years. Patience.
 
I agree, IMO he has been going great. He was not going to be playing like Slater in his first real year.
This kid has got real potential and I think next year with some real healing time we will all see what he can do.

No one has mentioned his speed either (probably because he hasn't broken the line yet) but in the game against the warriors, when Shaun Johnson found himself in clear space Tedesco was at least 2 meters behind and he pulled at least a meter on Johnson, this is the same Johnson that ran down Jennings with ease.

If our forwards can start getting this kid into space, we are going to start scoring plenty.

If we have Teddy, Koro, Nofo and Simona on at the same time, this would have to be the fastest team in the NRL.

With set back line movements, no more no look passes and a year of handy football under his belt I can really see him fire. Although if he doesn't improve he will need to be dropped and we need more replacements in fullback cause meany doesn't do it for me

We have talented outside backs to fill in pattyferg. Simona would do a great job like he has in the past.

But I agree - I'm happy with with where Tedesco is at considering a lot of factors. Hopefully he works hard at certain aspects of his game in the offseason - his defense and bomb-taking has been superb. Just ball-playing and positioning in certain areas require work.

I also reckon he could do with a sprint coach to help him get some technique and thus increase his pace. He has plenty of it, but there seems to be so much room for improvement there.

And some good cleats.
 
spot on. the most measured and accurate post i have read on here for some time. At least I don't shudder everytime the opposition kicks the ball in the air like I did with Moltzen.

I agree with all that, except about him chasing down Johnson. There's no way Johnson was a full speed. He nearly walked over the line.
 
I feel a line break to him scoring or setting up a try is just around the corner for teddy and once that happens he will be on everyone's lips.

It's all about confidence with teddy.

I'm going through an ACL ATM and it was probably the worst pain I've ever had (no contact an just destroys you). I know how
You feel brother hope we stick with you love how you are safe as houses under those bombs!

Feel exactly the same. I think it was the warriors game where he look oh so close to scoring that 70m try that would shut up all the haters. Might have to wait for next year.

Teddy looked a lot stronger & more confident in the titans game. I think he is starting to feel like he belongs in 1st grade. Looking forward to seeing him develop over the years.

A fullback can't show their true attacking ability unless the pack is going forward and the halves are creating opportunities - Slater would be hard pressed be a top performer in this current side.
 
He'll be fine - definitely a keeper. Once Benji moves on and some structure comes into our attack his role will be clearer and he'll be better for it.
 
Mick Potter may have his critics but one thing can't be denied is that he has done a fantastic job bringing Tedesco along. He also improved Moltzen's game at fullback earlier in the year.
Mick Potter has played fullback at this level and understand the complexities of the position and what is required.

Most rookies will have their ups and downs in their first year there are not many exceptions particularly at age 20.
His coming back from a serious injury and his getting better each week which wouldn't be easy when the senior players are getting worse each week.
