Tedesco - Wing or Fullback

Moltzen has done little wrong so far. His support play needs a lot more work, but he is starting to return the ball, contesting the high ball with far more success, in goal positioning is good and his scrambling defence is up there with some of the better fullbacks in the game.

You can't hook someone when they're playing well. When Koroibete comes back, Teddy should go to right wing and keep Moltzen honest with his performances.

I would also suggest this "sudden" development from Moltzen may have coincided with our coach being an ex-fullback himself, and may not necessarily be attributed solely to Tedesco looking to be heir apparent for the #1 jersey.

Moltzen spilt the first bomb and let the second bounce…..plus he gives us nothing on kick returns. His greatest attribute is his speed and we could use some of it in the centres.

Moltzen is a better front line defender than Tedesco and you would expect him to be… his played 80 games more than Tedesco.
Tedesco is a better support player and kick returner than Moltzen and that's got nothing to do with NRL games that is just instinct and heart.

I dunno if it is irvine, i completely understand why moltzen passes it off. If I was him, I'd probably do the same cause potter told me to. Who would you rather have running at you with a 15m running start, Marika Koroibete or Tim Moltzen? No sane man would pick koro, thus he offloads. He's edged off of that recently with the injury, but moltz is still a small guy and works more of clever footwork and chasing kicks to score than bringing it back from his in goal like barba or maybe tedesco can do.

The problem with that is we lose 10-15m every kick return because Moltzen is looking for a winger instead of steaming towards the opposition.

I used to see Bowen do the exact same thing and it absolutely **** me to tears. K Hunt/Slater/Mini, even Zillman and Wade Mckinnon could return the ball with gusto.

Ok, Potter might be saying use your wingers for impact on kick returns….but he needs to put a stop to Moltzen running 15m sideways to find his outside man.

Tedessco at fullback were he's comfortable and a better attcking ability and Nofo on the wing. Maybe drop Lawrence and bring in Simona or Brien.

Tedesco should be fullback, plain and simple. I'd rather give Mr T or Nofoaluma a run on the wing.

Honestly Mr T to me would be a massive liability. The turning point of the game was Reddy for some reason coming in off his wing for the Fonua try.

I think Utai should still be there. Offers experience toughness and can finish off tries that i Know Reddy cant. Its not like Reddy's defence is any better.

bmm rushed out forcing Benji, Blake and reddy to come in trying to cut it off. wasn't reddy's fault.

For the record, I think Tedesco is doing alright on the wing so far, considering the fact Manly and Melbourne have both made efforts to target his inexperience in that position. Most of Teddy's issue are experience related, which he'll improve with over time. Things like his positioning, reading the play, communicating with his inside man and one on one tackling haven't been great but that's to be expected. Some of the focus should definitely fall on Lawrence here too.

Definitely willing to show patience with Teddy. He's certainly got a little extra something about him.

Its a tough one, tedesco is def better at fb but on the other hand moltzen isn't a winger either. Moltzen is going OK back there imo , the thing that worries me about tedesco is the one on one missed tackles and just his general defence, some of the tackles he has missed aren't from being caught out of position on the wing they are weak attempts. For now moltzen stays at 1 for mine and maybe tedesco either on the bench and injected at the right time or given more time to work on his game.

Reddy's defense is **MUCH** better. The try he saved on Monday where he leaped into the hair would be a try any other day if Utai is on that wing.

Yep.

I say get Tedesco playing 1 from now on and give Moltzen a go in the centres or the halves.

Considering the fact that we most likely played the 2 front-runners of the 2013 competition and that Tedesco has been reasonably strong out there, probably only letting in 1 maybe 2 tries of his own fault, serves me to reason that he has been splendid out on the wing and is developing nicely out there. When you consider the factors; he has played 5 FG games (1 before he played on the wing) and he is a natural FB, then you can't really fault the guy especially seeing as though his wing has been targeted more often than most.

Inevitably Teddy will don the number 1 jersey this season at some stage, and I am excited to see that happen. Logistically if Marshall is out for 3 months (Sorry but I'm honestly all for this) then we could see a Moltzen, Anasta, Farah, Teddy combo which just sounds dangerous.

1\. Tedesco
6\. Anasta
7\. Moltzen
9\. Farah

I reckon that Teddy and Tim have a chemistry out on that field, imagine what we could see when Tedesco starts running holes off a Moltzen or Anasta offload. We have the skilled experience of Farah and Anasta taking the kicking. Moltzen's natural instinct of a halves player and Tedesco's dangerous runs from a fullback position. You have a pretty strong combo happening there and with time it will only develop.

Obviously a long-term halves combination is still in doubt, as I don't believe Tim is our man for the halves, although as he is on a long-term contract, if he can prove he belongs there then I am happy to see it. But you can't deny we have Marshall, Brooks, Moses. And no coach will drop Benji - it's just uncanny.

Anyone got word of when Siro will come back into the side? Have not been watching Holden cup so I dunno what kind of form he's in but I would like to see him play again.

I think it was Royce, or maybe Mick who said they felt he was a few weeks away yet. He needs to first get some match fitness and confidence flowing. I don't envision Curtis being the replacement should Benji miss some time.

put him at fullback and let him grow.
would love to see teddy koro and nofo as our back 3 in the next 2 months.

I agree 1000% Let's get over "owing" some players their spots. Let's look to the future and, just like Jack and Aaaron, we might be surprised how good the "future" already is!!

It's quite interesting observing Potter's position on Moltzen and Tedesco. It's clear that as the incumbent Moltzen has been given first crack and to be fair he hasn't done too badly. Certainly a lot better than last season. However, once Tedesco was in the starting line up, we've seen him being switched to fullback in both games. So that's a clear sign that Potter wants him playing the position in first grade and further, it's also a sign that Moltzen's days there are most definitely numbered.

It will be interesting to see how it plays out this week. Does Tedesco get even more time there at the back or does it stay like it did on Monday night with the odd shift. Of course there's some chance that Tedesco could play a full game there should he move Moltzen to the halves. However i'm banking on Sironen getting the nod so that will most likely put an end to it.
