The King of Clay, Rafael Nadal, has announced he will retire from professional tennis after next month’s Davis Cup.
The Spaniard shared an emotional video on social media, where he described the “difficult decision” and thanked his fans.
Nadal retires as one of the greatest tennis players of all time, having won 22 grand slams, beaten only by Novak Djokovic’s 24. 14 of those were at Roland Garros, where he 10-foot-tall statue of him now stands in recognition of his achievements.
His most recent grand slams were at the Australian Open and French Open in 2022.
