Teo charged on hit to Groat

If anyone thinks that is a 3-4 week suspension they are kidding themselves.

Personally I think it was a good hit.

I can see your point of view.

However with all of the studies in concussion over the last few years and their long term effect the NRL was always going to come down on shoulder contact with the head.

Different circumstances in terms of tackles but if Adam Ritsons situation happened in this day and age with the knowledge that is now in place and there was zero or minimal penalty than someone in Ritsons position would be in a position to bankrupt the administration or at least put it in a position where it was uninsureable and therefore not a viable concern.

This isn't the 80's and 90's anymore

I can see your point. Watched it again and it is high, but 3-4 weeks is still harsh IMO. 1-2 at the very most.

A few cm lower and it is a great hit.

But it's Te'o so good. The only thing I am filthy about is that nobody aside from Farah tried to put a big hit on the dog, after that incident.

Makes me think back to Dwyer's hit ion W-H. Very similar, although it could be argued W-H was falling slightly into it. Still, 3to4 weeks is a bit harsh I think.

What would the outcry have been from WT fans if in the 2010 semi, Simon Dwyer had been penalized and sent off for what is often labelled the "tackle of the decade" on JWH?

Teo wasn't aiming for Groats head, nor was Frank Pritchard a few weeks back, nor Dwyer in 2010 for that matter.

Send offs are intended for deliberate foul play. How can something be deemed deliberate If the refs have to watch a super slow-mo replay to decided where contact was made?

Ten minutes in the bin, a free interchange and the tackler put on report is sufficient IMO.

Big difference between the two. Have a look at youtube just to refresh (if not for any other reason than to watch SD playing again)

Just prior to contact Dwyer squats down. At the same time, JWH bends down to try and get some extra drive through the tackle. How you could apportion any blame to Dwyer in that hit is beyond me. Had it gone bad however, and Dwyer was careless enough to contribute to a shoulder charge to the head, then I'd expect the same.

Te'o was initially crouching and then stood taller immediately before impact. Poor technique.

It is a contact sport, and when it goes right it is awesome, but when it goes wrong why should we just accept it? It's a percentage play that probably isn't worth it, especially with the competition is so close and players are looking for something to shift momentum. I wouldn't be coaching my players to do it.

Great he gets some time off, does us no good though, he was able to continue to play, meanwhile we were a forward short…...

A few cm's may be the difference between a great hit and an illegal one - but it is also the difference between a bit of soreness and a serious injury.

Even Mick Crocker and some on the Channel 9 wasn't sure if it was a shoulder charge or a legit tackle One week will suffice in my opinion

Wasn't as bad as Pritchards in Round 1

I thought it was definitely worse than Pritchards.

Pritchard was at least in the process of crouching down, to hit the chest, and a falling Simmons contributed to the contact to the head.

Teo quite obviously pounced from the ground to get maximum force - his feet were off the ground when he hit Groat - it was accidental, but it was reckless.

But it is Te'o, so suck crap to the dog.

Hands by his side, shoulders square, dips and drives up with the corner of the right shoulder at the players head. You can see him leading with that shoulder in the vid. This is not a conventional shoulder charge, where the defender tucks his elbow into his ribs and makes contact with the upper arm and flat side of the shoulder. Its calculated to cause harm, its as intentional as a swinging arm with closed fist.

Forget all the sabre rattling, it deserves 4-6\. Unfortunately he wont get that long

So much confusion and argument and disagreement on these shoulder charges.
I agree with Dr Nathan Gibbs (former Souths 1st grade player) who argues that the players' safety requires the banning of all tackles above the lower chest (nipple line)

I didn't think it deserved a send off.

I think it deserved a punch in the nose from an older member of the forward pack.

Nice to see some cheap shots penalised by the judiciary this year.

I think unless we are allowed to replace an injured player after an illegal shot the league must get tougher and send a lot more players off.

We were down a man because of illegal play and get no benefit. Whatever Teo was trying to do it doesn't matter he hit Groat on the chin and should have been sent off.I hope the referees and video referee are dropped because of their decision not to send him off.

The referal system is just an easy out for the refs. Not only is it unfair to the team who could possibly loose a player for the remainder of the match but it seems to negate the send off. You deadset have to shoot someone to be sent off these days. Something needs to be done.

and fast!
