Maybe Pangai isn't interested in us ...the truth can be painful ladies and gentlemen

Going on past experience, I would say you are bang on

According to some on here we didn't miss Signing him as we "pulled out" fact is another player who did not want to come here.
I am glad we missed him at the price

"TPJ is said to prefer the Tigers or Dragons over the dogs", if this in fact true, then we didn't miss him, he just wanted more than we wanted to pay? If you look at the dogs, they will be in serious trouble if they don't fire from the get go?

we did miss him we made an offer he didn't take it he went elsewhere that is missing the purchase
Latrell
JAC
this happens to Tigers all the time
they better land Funucane and or Brandon Smith

No we didn't miss him, we made an offer, he wanted more, we moved on without further negotiation.

Are they after Finucane or Smith?

if you bid for a house and you do not get the house you missed out on purchasing the house we made a bid it was Rejected

We withdrew our offer and walked away.

ok...
I really want that house
As the auction price goes past what you can afford
you pull out as someone else purchases the house
You feel better as you withdrew your offer and walk away
life doesn't work like that end of the day you didn't get the house you wanted someone else did

Yeah because they overpaid, that is not how you get ahead.

we still missed him regardless of what they were paid he went elsewhere

So are you trying to say it is a bad thing we didn't over pay?

no I'm trying to say we made an offer he has elected to go elsewhere we missed out on him. just because the club then withdraws the offer it doe not mean you wanted him and did not get him.
this is aimed at the people on here who are like oh we withdrew the offer so that is ok
If you are a salesman and a you make a sales pitch but the potential client elects to go with another companies product t then you have missed the sale, you can't go back to your manager and be like hey nothing to see hear we never wanted that client anyway that is ridiculous we sent three staff up there and pitched the club and like Latrell and JAC duck egg.
Hope we land someone decent soon

Read the news about this, he has been offered a substantial amount more than we offered.
We didn’t want to increase our offer, so that means we walked away, if you choose to believe otherwise, then fine.
BTW, I was a sales manager for many years, you don’t sell at any price. You stick to your budget.

likewise if you choose to believe we walked away and didn't miss out on a player good luck to you.
you obviously don't do any auctions if you go to buy something and don't due to price or whatever you miss the product regardless that is fact.

You have trouble letting things go, you are playing a game semantics.

and likewise if we want Dale Finucane and we don't offer enough it will mean it is another player that we tried to land and did not as he had a better offer be that more money or longer deal etc than we are prepared to offer, still doesn't erase the fact if we put an offer and it gets rejected then we miss the player
three years for Finucane worth a shot not four years

In a negotiation, you make an offer, if the player comes back and say I want more money and you turn around and say we are not prepared to offer more so are ending the negotiation. In that scenario you are ending the negotiation not the player. We weren't outbid, we decided that TPJ wasn't worth the money he wanted, we rejected his offer and ended negotiations.

Failed to reach the reserve price.

So what happens to TPJ if the Dogs were only fishing?
He's stuck at the Donkeys or has to lower his asking price.

After the Roosters got beat 46 to nil
And the Bulldogs 66 to nil
Tigers could still be in with a chance to get him
Roosters on the decline
Bulldogs still a basket case
Tigers well we are the Tigers

You know I just dont get it
We all talk about the cap and not paying overs
If we keep on signing nuffies on low contracts then what do we spend our money on
When Packer goes we have between $700'000 and $800'000 to spend
But wee only want to spend $600'000
When we offloaded Reynolds who was on approximately $750'000 we got Ofahengaue for what $500'000 ?
When we let go of Momorovski we got Laurie on a very small contract which would be less that Momorovski
Where is our money going
Or is our cap still up the shit

We would still be paying some of Reynolds contract this year, upgrades will be required for quite a few over the next few years

IMO Tigers have pulled out of negotiations because TPJ management have raised the $$$ to high and then leaked to media that they are clearly out so that TPJ management cant use Tigers as a wedge in future negotiations. Its a signal to Bulldogs and Dragons

I hope the tiger's haven't pulled out of the negotiations. I'm hoping they're being creative and trying to work with TPJ and his management to get the deal across the line. That's the ideal negotiation, both parties leaving happy.

The tigers have been creative lately eg Harry Grant, so maybe they're thinking of ways to incentives TPJ. I definitely don't want to pay $700k for the current TPJ, but he certainly has the ability to be worth that much.

The door is closed.

The door should never be fully closed. Not until he signs a contract at least. He may have previously agreed to a number with us but hears rumours of a larger big from another club, so asks for more money.

Maybe someone offers him 750k for 4 years. Pretty crazy if they do but can't knock him for taking the dough. Maybe those deals never come to fruition. If he were to come back to us and say I've seen what else is out there and ultimately I think I'll play better under Madge and will take your original offer if you're happy to put it back on the table. If he were to have the humility to do that, awesome, we should have no problem re-entering talks to get the deal done.

Of course it's likely he may take the cash somewhere else, or get brown paper bags but we still need to remove ego and be professional should we still have the cap space to do so.

Pangai like Latrell has elected to play elsewhere other than Tigers

Well it just shows that the numbers are speculative.

We weren't outbid, we decided that TPJ wasn't worth the money he wanted, we rejected his offer and ended negotiations.

that is what being outbid is all about one party outbids another and you pull out. If you didn't want the product or player you would never have made a bid in the first place.
We obviously did and he is out of our price range we withdrew
we still did not get the player

No party outbid us, that's the point mate. We were interested, no one has said we weren't, his asking point was more than we were willing to pay so we terminated the negotiation.

agree to disagree cochise on this one. I see this no different to Latrell or JAC

Who outbid us? In what way is this an auction? I will tell you now TPJ was willing to come here and we probably could have had him at training next week.

There doesn’t appear to be any room for counter offers in the recent negotiations we’ve been involved in.
If that is the case why are we presenting our best and final from the outset?
I disagree with some here I see the foundation of buying and selling and the negotiations that take place as an integral skill in player recruitment.
It seems we have too many of our i’s dotted and our t’s crossed prior to presenting that we are so sure of our target we aren’t willing to be open to adjusting our stance.

TPJ wanted us to cover money he hadn't received from TPAs.

That’s illegal.

Depends how you word it.

TPAs are supposed to be at arms length from the club.
Either the Broncos promised him these and aren’t coming through or the manager has promised his something that’s not there.
Either way in the laws of the salary cap either the Broncos or the manager have done the wrong thing here.
To expect the next club to cover this up is illegal.

Wrong. The fact that Brisbane arent guaranteeing these payments is the whole point. There is no restriction on TPAs from genuine third parties. It makes sense that if he leaves the area of Brisbane, he is no longer able to provide service to these third parties. If they were dodgy TPA's Broncos would be footing the bill. It actually looks legit.

Tigers would be mad to take it on.

That makes sense. I wasn’t thinking of the TPAs as a yearly salary more so a complete package. There is every chance that the TPA’s have been honoured to this point. So your right and we would be stupid to take this on. But I do not doubt that another club such as the dogs would have a couple of contact that would be more willing to kick in the additional in a form of a TPA.

TPJ on a tpa that has2 b honoured sounds like a rip off, thought nobody had to honour such an agreement

I dont think wed send THREE most senior ppl up there unless we had discussed and agreed ball park price....that wld be plain stupid, tho not outside the realms of possibility.
Apart from Kevvies on again off again mood swings,Im guessing TPJs manager upped the ante on us,possibly with new clubs entering the tpj market and possibly not...and it simply teed us off
..yet again
Its just not a good look either way Tiger management!
Looks like the desperate and dateless...which cld be true...

No we didn't miss him, we made an offer, he wanted more, we moved on without further negotiation.

Are they after Finucane or Smith?

It’s all paper dribble until it’s official.. we might be fighting fire with fire - also known as doing a Bar

Of course it's likely he may take the cash somewhere else, or get brown paper bags **but we still need to remove ego and be professional should we still have the cap space to do so.**

Do you think the club doesn't do this?

I thought it was pretty simple, we let it be known that we didn't want to get into a bidding war for him?

I dont think wed send THREE most senior ppl up there unless we had discussed and agreed ball park price....that wld be plain stupid, tho not outside the realms of possibility.
Apart from Kevvies on again off again mood swings,Im guessing TPJs manager upped the ante on us,possibly with new clubs entering the tpj market and possibly not...and it simply teed us off
..yet again
Its just not a good look either way Tiger management!

I honestly think its for the best, that we signed none of them. I think it will make the club realize that it has to grow its future not buy it, this pathological need to throw our name and money at anything that comes on the market skews our cap and ruins our pathways.

This whole TPA charade just proves how imbalanced the NRL is.

TPJ needs us to meet not only his contract price but also his TPA. TPA's are meant to be independent arrangements with biz/players. Theoretically they shouldn't matter where a player plays.

In reality MOST TPA's are just a circumvention of the salary cap. So clubs like ours not only have to pay overs salary cap wise - we also need to try and match TPA's potentially within our salary cap as we don't have the corporate clout as some other clubs.

Irony is, sponsorship is hard at the best of times let alone when the team is struggling.
