Tevita Pangai Junior

I don't think that Pangai junior is consistent enough to be labelled a marquee player but he is not terrible.

He is younger than some of the other players we have floating around on marquee money and we were not tying ourselves into a marquee contract.

Now compare this to our smart signing. Finucane is supposedly a leader on and off the field. It is highly unlikely that he will individually win or turn a game for the team. He is 30 years old and has spent a decade putting his body on the line and wants at least as much coin and a longer contract.

Who would you take?

But at his age, he is subject to long term injuries, especially a forward (bit like Packer), this then blows your cap to buggery (like Packer), as you can’t replace them easily.

But a short contract with CO’s would be ideal, but apparently he doesn’t want that?

A simple way to tidy up the whole TPA thing is to count ALL TPA’s as part of the cap UNLESS the TPA is not aligned to a player’s club (Meaning it follows the player wherever they go).

It would quickly separate legitimate TPA’S from cap rorting TPAs

This whole TPA charade just proves how imbalanced the NRL is.

TPJ needs us to meet not only his contract price but also his TPA. TPA's are meant to be independent arrangements with biz/players. Theoretically they shouldn't matter where a player plays.

In reality MOST TPA's are just a circumvention of the salary cap. So clubs like ours not only have to pay overs salary cap wise - we also need to try and match TPA's potentially within our salary cap as we don't have the corporate clout as some other clubs.

Irony is, sponsorship is hard at the best of times let alone when the team is struggling.

did we try to get Meriton as a tpa bt were told by the nrl they were too close to the club even after they dropped jersey sponsorship ?

I don't know if Harry is involved with TPA's. As of a season ago I know Harry was still putting in a 6 figure sum into the club. Suggested arrangement seemed adhoc.

Harry has no financial agreement with the club ...and probably hasn't since he was a major sponsor ...you don't become the richest man in Australia by throwing your money after probable lost causes .....

Harry still puts money into the club every year.

He could buy Tigers 100 times over and still be one of the richest around, it would be chump change to him.

Off the books .........

Looks like the desperate and dateless...which cld be true...

You have no idea why they went up there, if they indeed did go up there to talk, and it doesn't matter anyway.

Officially at the time, no matter who from Tigers went anywhere, TPJ was in no position to negotiate or agree to anything - he was not given permission by Broncos.

And the player himself said he never met with the club at the time - that's the only official record we have.

In fact, even if it played out exactly as you say, it's good management. It's proactive management. You make your first approach in force, show them you are serious, see if you can get the jump on your rivals.

The alternative is to be like Bulldogs, late to the party and forced to pay extras, above already struggling sides, to get signatures.

LOL ....Players never meet with clubs ....their managers though ....different story

Can only go with what is official. You can't make an offer to Pangai until the Broncos permit you.

As we have all learnt ...rules apply to no one in the NRL ...on or off field

Probably the one thing I have seen and learnt .....clubs that have major salary cap indisgressions don't suffer long .....I'd say it is probably worth the risk in our case .....

Agree, let’s do it.
Last time they put our CEO in the bin for 6 months and we didn’t even miss him.

Maybe Pangai isn't interested in us ...the truth can be painful ladies and gentlemen

Going on past experience, I would say you are bang on

According to some on here we didn't miss Signing him as we "pulled out" fact is another player who did not want to come here.
I am glad we missed him at the price

"TPJ is said to prefer the Tigers or Dragons over the dogs", if this in fact true, then we didn't miss him, he just wanted more than we wanted to pay? If you look at the dogs, they will be in serious trouble if they don't fire from the get go?

we did miss him we made an offer he didn't take it he went elsewhere that is missing the purchase
Latrell
JAC
this happens to Tigers all the time
they better land Funucane and or Brandon Smith

No we didn't miss him, we made an offer, he wanted more, we moved on without further negotiation.

Are they after Finucane or Smith?

if you bid for a house and you do not get the house you missed out on purchasing the house we made a bid it was Rejected

We withdrew our offer and walked away.

ok...
I really want that house
As the auction price goes past what you can afford
you pull out as someone else purchases the house
You feel better as you withdrew your offer and walk away
life doesn't work like that end of the day you didn't get the house you wanted someone else did

Yeah because they overpaid, that is not how you get ahead.

we still missed him regardless of what they were paid he went elsewhere

So are you trying to say it is a bad thing we didn't over pay?

no I'm trying to say we made an offer he has elected to go elsewhere we missed out on him. just because the club then withdraws the offer it doe not mean you wanted him and did not get him.
this is aimed at the people on here who are like oh we withdrew the offer so that is ok
If you are a salesman and a you make a sales pitch but the potential client elects to go with another companies product t then you have missed the sale, you can't go back to your manager and be like hey nothing to see hear we never wanted that client anyway that is ridiculous we sent three staff up there and pitched the club and like Latrell and JAC duck egg.
Hope we land someone decent soon

Read the news about this, he has been offered a substantial amount more than we offered.
We didn’t want to increase our offer, so that means we walked away, if you choose to believe otherwise, then fine.
BTW, I was a sales manager for many years, you don’t sell at any price. You stick to your budget.

likewise if you choose to believe we walked away and didn't miss out on a player good luck to you.
you obviously don't do any auctions if you go to buy something and don't due to price or whatever you miss the product regardless that is fact.

You have trouble letting things go, you are playing a game semantics.

and likewise if we want Dale Finucane and we don't offer enough it will mean it is another player that we tried to land and did not as he had a better offer be that more money or longer deal etc than we are prepared to offer, still doesn't erase the fact if we put an offer and it gets rejected then we miss the player
three years for Finucane worth a shot not four years

In a negotiation, you make an offer, if the player comes back and say I want more money and you turn around and say we are not prepared to offer more so are ending the negotiation. In that scenario you are ending the negotiation not the player. We weren't outbid, we decided that TPJ wasn't worth the money he wanted, we rejected his offer and ended negotiations.

Failed to reach the reserve price.

So what happens to TPJ if the Dogs were only fishing?
He's stuck at the Donkeys or has to lower his asking price.

All TPJ can do is have a [This word has been automatically removed] and a moan to his manager for stuffing up his career by missing out on a more than generous offer made by the Tigers and the opportunity to reach the absolute pinnacle with a club that is about to become the power house of the Rugby League world.

Players shouldn't rely on greedy managers who are only interested in maximizing their commissions, often at the expense or detriment to their clients relatively short careers.

Mm. Just like Tedesco, JAC, Matterson and Moses.

Bet they're regretting not staying at this power house of a club.

Something went seriously wrong IMO,and my speculation is the most likely

Everyone has said (except this club) that we went up to meet him? He must of given an indication (probably a handshake) that he was happy to come over, otherwise they would not have been the first to have a contract ready for him, the fact that other clubs got involved and upped our deal (I wonder how they knew?) is just how business is done in the NRL these days?

But to say the 3 top people of the club was a waste, is short sighted imo?

Reynolds said that the Bronc’s come down to see him, with a senior management delegation and the Sharks sent a recruitment guy? He signed with the Bronc’s and gave that as one of the reasons.

Anyway, there has been no announcement of who he has signed with as far as I am aware?

If that clown has a legit TPA that is still current, shouldn't it go with him regardles of which club he plays for?

If that is the case, it just shows up what a rort the TPA's,
golf tournaments and brown paper bags are.

No not in all cases, maybe the deal is reliant on him being in Brisbane to service a Brisbane based client.

I think you guys are missing the point of TPAs.
There would be less than 1% of the TPA deals that are commissioned that would be of a sponsor of a global or national brand.
Most are just the local car dealership, or the nearby pub etc etc.
If his manager did his job correctly. He would be down here sourcing a new TPA with a Sydney company to bulk up his contract. But the issue also remains is that Tevita is still contracted to the Broncos. So how does one arrange such a deal without a guarantee of it ever eventuating?
So his doing the next best thing. Absolving the TPA in the form of a cash salary cap deal with a desperate club.

I wish he would buy it tbh.

Not at his age, what happens when he passes and his family have no interest in the club?

A simple way to tidy up the whole TPA thing is to count ALL TPA’s as part of the cap UNLESS the TPA is not aligned to a player’s club (Meaning it follows the player wherever they go).

It would quickly separate legitimate TPA’S from cap rorting TPAs

I don't think you can do that, I don't think it is fair to limit a player earning from their image.

I dont think wed send THREE most senior ppl up there unless we had discussed and agreed ball park price....that wld be plain stupid, tho not outside the realms of possibility.
Apart from Kevvies on again off again mood swings,Im guessing TPJs manager upped the ante on us,possibly with new clubs entering the tpj market and possibly not...and it simply teed us off
..yet again
Its just not a good look either way Tiger management!

No business sends their top 3 execs only to return home empty handed...unless its a junket rewarding for them for their respective outstanding performance in 2021...cough
Something went seriously wrong IMO,and my speculation is the most likely

That happens all the time.

He is tipping money in every year.

Off the books ....

When the Business Statement was produced by someone .....no H Trugiboff ..mentioned anywhere .....

All I care is that he is contributing to the club.
