Good to see we have rejected Pangai. Just like we rejected Mitchell & JAC when they would not roll over and agree to what the tigers had offered.

It is the fish that wests reject that make them the (12th to 16th) best.

We are a basket case, our signing will again consist of who other clubs need to get rid of after signing the top available talent.

TPJ is too inconsistent to break the bank on.

I get Harvey's post but the reality is we have to operate like a professional business. We can't keep making the same mistakes with our salary cap. We also can't be used as a bargaining chip for managers.

It looks like the way things are at the moment managers get our best offer and then use that to get their player signed on a bit extra at another club. We gotta keep going for quality players. It costs us nothing. It costs other clubs money though.

The problem is when the youngsters we bring through show ability, other clubs start chasing and these blokes have not played finals football or made rep teams and see a squad full of fringe first graders and youngsters that are a few years off contending, they will move on. We then replace them with more youngsters, fringe first graders and players at the end of their careers. Rinse and repeat the cycle will continue.

We have seen it before. There are no transfer fees in the NRL, so being a development and feeder club for heavyweights is not a business model that works.

We need to get a couple of big name stars in that can carry and bring out the best of the youngsters around them.

I don't really think that is true.

How many Tigers juniors, that we wanted to keep, have been poached by other sides? Tedesco is the only one I can think of, and he's unique because he's one of the best players going around, and Tigers were in a particularly bad way when he left.

On the other hand in just 12 months we signed Blore and Laurie from Penrith, that's two of their top juniors. And that's only because the FG side was going so well, they couldn't force their way in.

The Club Didnt make an official statement saying we Made the Player and Offer and therefore shouldnt make and follow up.

I don't think a big fish is our way out of this mess.

both agree and disagree. Juniors is our actual way out but unless we also get a big fish who can convince other players that were a good club any talented juniors we develop will leave as they start to excel and we will remain stuck in a rut.

Teams don’t win comps. Clubs do. Until management etc is in a good place we will never reach out potential.

Disagree, we had the money for all 3 players you mentioned, the fact they didn't want our offer is on them.

Money is nearly always the issue, except for perhaps LM, we offered the money ($1m) and the position (FB) that he wanted, but he wanted to go to Souths, there is nothing you can do.

Latrell would still be getting the same money we offered him from Souths......just outside the salary cap. Rusty would be looking after him off the books you can be certain.
Paul Kent said as much the other day "I don't think Latrell took a pay cut to go to Souths" during a conversation with Big Dry Crawley when Crawley was having a dig at WT for missing out on targetted players.

Yep, if you believe Latrell is getting a cent less at Souths you also believe in the Tooth Fairy

It will take more than one good player to bring success - and players know that better than anyone.
We need more than one - which is what the Bulldogs seem hellbent on doing - however the pressure that puts on their cap if it doesn't work will set them backwards again.
From the outside looking in I'm not sure many players would be brave enough to take this on - when they don't need to.
We have to build from within like Penrith and then hopefully they will come when they can see some quality to play beside.



Bulldogs are digging their own grave by throwing large amounts of money at a few players.They may get a very slight lift for a little while(1 year) but in the long run they will be in an even worse position than they are now.Quick fixes do not work you have to build from your base like Hartigan has started to do with us

Most clubs ‘ have a short term focus, short term contracts for coaches who don’t have the time for long term goals. Gosh, heaven forbid if they ever got all decision makers to formulate a 5 and 10yr plans and review the way they measure success, and had long term tenure for key people? I wonder what that would look like?

If you make a bid and it's rejected, that doesn't mean you can't make another bid. They want you to make another bid. You can choose to do so, but you choose not to.

What you guys are actually talking about is making an offer and the player says "no I don't want to play for you, any price, stop making offers". And I'd be surprised in the history of football if that's ever happened, that a player would refuse to receive a maximum bid from a club.

I think Teddy only stayed as long as he did because he wanted to play with his mates. I think this is a factor that fans dont relate to seriously enough - it's what will keep the nucleus of the Penrith boys loyal and together. The only time we have seen success was when we had a team of close mates - and someone thought it was necessary to break that up and we have never been the same since

If you make a bid and it's rejected, that doesn't mean you can't make another bid. They want you to make another bid. You can choose to do so, but you choose not to.

no I'm trying to say we made an offer he has elected to go elsewhere we missed out on him. just because the club then withdraws the offer it doe not mean you wanted him and did not get him.
this is aimed at the people on here who are like oh we withdrew the offer so that is ok
If you are a salesman and a you make a sales pitch but the potential client elects to go with another companies product t then you have missed the sale, you can't go back to your manager and be like hey nothing to see hear we never wanted that client anyway that is ridiculous we sent three staff up there and pitched the club and like Latrell and JAC duck egg.
