Great article by Roy on the power the player managers have

http://www.smh.com.au/rugby-league/league-news/conflict-of-interests-arise-when-agents-represent-players-and-coaches-20170329-gv92sk.html

I've said this before, accredited player agents should receive a fixed fee for player contracts rather than a percentage. X amount of accredited agents licences issued by the NRL. Equal number of players distributed to each manager randomly. If player agents are only receiving a fixed fee there's more motivation for contract negotiations to be streamlined and less likely to see incidences that we are seeing with Moses and his four "star" players holding a club to ransom.

May sound like a Communistic approach but it's the only way you'll stop these sorts of shady deals happening, when the player agent gets a fixed fee rather than a commission.

"However, the club has no control over who represents a player, unless they take the action Roosters' boss, Nick Politis, did against Moses recently.

Two weeks ago, the Roosters released centre Dale Copley to the Titans. Copley was the last client Moses had at the club. Politis has been a rare club chairman strong enough to refuse to deal with a player manager."

From the above article by masters, which might lead one to think the roosters might not be that keen on ted?

When they refer to Politis "strong enough" they mean "rich and connected enough".

EXCEPT

One reason why Wests Tigers board is keen to move quickly to secure the out-of-work Ivan Cleary is to deny an agent further influence over a club that has sacked three coaches in five years.

I'm going to point this out every time, I know most everyone knows, Potter was not sacked.

Sheens had 10 years before he was punted, Potts saw out his two, JT had 2.2/3\. So the club technically sacked two coaches in 5 years and the first guy was there for a decade.

I have a feeling Isaac Moses has bitten off more than he can chew.
He won't be able to keep his 4 together and get the money he talked up to his clients.
Big dollar talk getting the kids excited but in reality the options are closing fast.

If they had signed last year or earlier this year with the exception of brooks they would have got the big dollars. Not now though.
Woods and Teddy yes other two no. Not worth it.

Haven't seen this mentioned earlier but it's a good point. Moses in particular had a good season last year (ended up 7th in the Dally M count) so he really should have signed his deal - be it at WT or elsewhere - over the summer, as his stock had never been higher.
Obviously the idea was to improve his form and thus negotiating leverage, but it's not really happened….

about the whole fab 4 contract situation is the lack of passion from any of the players for the club.

There has been no mention of "I really hope to stay at the Tigers" or "I love the club" or "my first preference is to sign with Wests", "I want to win a premiership with the club".

No consideration has been given to the fans of the club. It is all about doing what is best for me, playing finals football, letting my manager sort it out.

We need more leadership particularly from club captain Woods on this front.

Players need to understand it is the fans that ultimately pay their wages and that it is a tribal game. We want the boys to breath passion for the black white and gold.

Get behind the club boys. At least give token support if you can't be arsed to do anything else.

Your exactly right Yes it is a business. However look at tedesco. He had two years off becauseof injury, the club stuck by him. Should at least give something back. Not like he wont get enough cash. Moses and brooks should beg for a new contract here judging on there performances.

Agree Tommy. Definitely kills your passion as a fan a bit when you see players who can take it or leave it as far as playing for WT is concerned.
I understand it is a business these days but a bit of passion, spirit and emotion between clubs, players and supporters usually is a recipe for at least a little bit of success.
For this reason I'm not fussed if any of these 4 players end up staying. If they go we will have mega money to chase some blokes who will play and represent our club with passion.

That all went out with the 5 meter rule. Today it is big business and the clubs are just as bad as the players when it comes to loyalty. Look what happened to Farah, so do you really blame the players for putting no1 first. One injury and its all over or another kid bursts onto the scene who is better.

I think you will find at the end of the day the majority re sign with their current clubs and probably for a little less than what the market is offering but if they up and leave for what ever reason its their call

Yes, it is their call. And clubs don't always show loyalty to players you are right. Farah is probably a bit of a bad example though, from the outside it looks as though he was a destabilizing influence so therefore needed to be removed. Didn't like with how it all panned out with him.
Tedesco IMO should be feeling the need to show some loyalty, he was looked after through his long-term injuries pretty well by the club.

Well said. You really don't see passion for the club these days.

Unfortunately players probably don't see that it's the fans that ultimately pay their wages but it's the corporate sponsors. Gone are the days where the fans that show up each week at the game mattered in terms of how much money goes to the club.

Maybe we can read this as a positive. If these guys think they, as the spine, aren't the issue and are good enough to win the premiership, then they may leave more cap room for us to buy the right players around them.

If they really were serious bout winning a premiership, they should take a slab of beer a game and have the Tigers buy the best forward pack in the nrl

Moses has not had a line break assist or try assist this year. He must have an ego on him if he can come out with that article anout playing in a great team that wins premierships. Mate with thise numbers you wouldnt make the cunnamulla rams side..

Im honestly ok at letting both the halves go..

It seems odd that many people want to resign the spine of a team coming last?

The only reason i can think of is that they believe their form is as a result of the coach and/or the rest of the team not being good enough? For most of them though, they have played in several of our seasons where we have been towards the bottom of the table… Maybe they just arent good enough? People say Brooks is average, but then we still have 3 supposed gun players in our last placed team...

Regardless of how it plays out, it will be interesting to see how they play for a new coach and possibly a new club...

Great truth in this post.
Where are the days when players gave their guts for their club, one for all and all for one, the club mateship was their joy of going to training, us versus them on every game day, united as a team as the fans were united in support of the jersey!!

If they don't want to play for the club - get rid of them.

I'd be very disappointed to lose Teddy especially, but I'd rather we started again than overpaid players who didn't want to be here.

Feels like almost the entire squad with the exception of a few (ET) always want to take the easy way out of every situation and it shows on the field.

Read an article today on J Reynolds and he was quoted as saying "it makes him sick in the stomach" that he maybe pushed out of the Bulldogs.

Sure its a different scenario but it is a contrast to what we have heard from some of our big names.

This is all pretty silly…........would all these rumours be happening if we were winning?

And given Brooks has pretty much done nothing since that very first appearance and Moses has gone backwards since the backend of last year and Brooks especially has been critised by commentators about his form, I just don't see anyone doing what we have done in the past and pay overs.

Woods, I can't see leaving unless a dump trunk full of cash turns up like that 1 mill a year rumour and Teddy knocked back the Raiders, why would they both go to the Dogs who appear to be a bit of a basket case themselves with their own coach up in the air?

The whole thing is getting ridiculous and all I can see going on is a manager trying to raise prices on 2 out of form players and bumping up the other 2.

Teddys seen a lot go on here since the Raiders contract, some of which, may have changed his mind about a few things. I hope that Cleary gets to have a talk with him, as he doesn't seem to be very happy at the moment, they stuffed around with his last contract and it looks like it's happening all over again.the club should concentrate on him.
If the others go , I don't think that it will be a big loss. Whereas Losing Tedesco will be losing the one real star that we have.
And the one person who can change a game .
